Own this bike for 6 years now. Found gearing too tall and seldom used 4th gear on city roads. Couple months into owning it, I geared down by changing the rear sprocket from 39T to 41T. It changed the bike’s character somewhat and has more sweet spots thru the rev range. Improved its acceleration too…
@@Spartansrule118 except for the starter motor that burned out and busted fork seals (both needing replacement), it has been reliable for almost 7 years now
I recently got a ‘12 796. Love it to bits. Just ordered the woodcraft risers too.. stock bars were unforgiving on my wrists and shoulders after an 8 hour cruise. Def benefits from higher and angled bars. 🍺
Thanks! and yes I have ridden a few of the 1100's including the EVO, and the 1200. Monster and Hypermotard. they feel like a totally different bikes than the 796, (for them all to be called monsters) its hard to make this short, but let me try. the Hypermotard I add in because that 1100 motor works so well for that bike, its super playful and lots of torque to loft the front wheel for hulagan fun (it works because you tend to ride the bike at lower overall speeds) starting with the 1100 Monster EVO, the geometry of the bike is somewhere between the Hypermotard and a sport bike, its a little different and takes a bit to get used to, for a sport bike it runs out of steam in the upper RPM range, this is fine if your not taking it to the track, and again the motor its fun and playful just not as playful in the monster configuration. I bring the 1200 in to it because it was the next bike for Ducati replacing the 1100, this motor is not for the faint at hart, and could most certainly get one in trouble, it seems to store power and can surprise you coming off of throttle then back on say mid corner, it can send you off the road.... it just has a steep learning curve to ride well. the 796 is totally different than all these bikes, the power plant loves to rev, and it still has lots of low end power, the Geometry of this bike makes it turn and handle like a sport bike, with a more upright posture, it works well, much better than the 1100 or the 1200, (note: for me I needed the bars a bit more forward than stock, to feel just right) you would be right to choose from the 1100 EVO and the 796, The EVO will give you more adjustability in suspension that must be set up for the way you ride, they are so adjustable if set up wrong they are terrible to ride (most are set up wrong) look to Dave moss for correct settings. of all the bikes at the same price point (for street use) I would choose the 796 its that good. if I were to do track days too, I would probably pick the Street fighter 1090, Oh hell I put another bike in there.... (I just could not keep my license on that bike on the street)

Considering buying a 2013 at 15k miles. Seller states it was just fully serviced. Seems to be in great shape. Thoughts on reliability at that mileage? Thanks
These bikes are vary reliable, the 796 is a fantastic motor, the Monster 796 is relatively basic in nature, not so many electronics to cauls issues. 15K miles is a great find, you are right at the first real service and valve check (they rarely need adjustment at this check point) but good to have it done, if he has that service record even better.
Currently debating getting one of these. Love the looks and sounds of it but my main concern is the power difference between this and the 1100 evo? Anyone have experience on both that can chime in on the subject, does the 796 have a fair amount of steam to it or will it feel a little under powered? Current bike is a 02 Harley super glide stage one with suspension work done. Thanks
I have owned both, the 1100 evo, has much more power in low RPM situations (street riding) the 796 has power modes and can feel like a beginner bike in the rain and standard modes, but in sport mode it comes alive and feels as fast as the Evo, at high RPM and well above any legal street limits. The 1100 is more of a hooligan bike (it encourages you to lose your license as fast as possible, where as the 796 you will need to make the decision to put it in sport mode and turn off nanny controls before that happens. Both definitely a different experience than the super glide.....you will want to keep that too! If it were me.....I love the 1100 motor, it's not as fast as the newer motors, but in my opinion it's more fun! (Too much fun!, Is there such a thing)
Hi, thanks for checking out the video, I'm not sure if the bike had a tune or not, I do not remember seeing a power commander on it, also I do not think it had the DB killers on it.. I would say if the offer a DB killer, get them with it you can always take them out. The bike did not pop on de-excelleration some bikes equipped with O2 sensors can accommodate the new exhaust and the ECU will adjust the fuel mixture, if the bike doesn't have O2 sensors it is likely it would require a turner or tune to make the adjustment for the exhaust.
These bikes are quite good in the city, motor is smooth and easy to manage, though one of the best city bikes is the Yamaha FZ07 in a similar design and that bike is more sensible for a new rider, the power on the FZ07 is never a surprise and the bike is one of the most reliable bike built, the Ducati can be a bit more of a hand full when the RPM gets higher.
@@patricksh4944 Im glade you brought up the Duke, so KTM makes a few the 690, the 790 and the 1290 and now the 2021 Duke 890 (I absolutely love KTM's I have owned 3 KTM Super duke 1290's (different years) two of the 690s and I raced their dirt bikes, and owned many of there adventure bikes 690, 1290, 1190 and now ride the 1090 Adventure R, I say this just to let you know where my opinion on these bikes comes from, the Duke 790 should be avoided at all costs they have way too many reliability problems with the electronics so much so they re named it the 890, I would steer clear of that as well. the 690 is a reliable fun bike (2016 and newer) the older bikes need a rocker upgrade at about 30K miles. the duke 390 has also had some reliability issues, it seems that bike was built on the cheep! the Duke 1290 is a dangerous beast, I love it but it takes a lot of work to ride it and I always seem to get tired of putting in all the work to ride it. the KTM 690 is a joy in the city and does OK on the highway, but it can be a bit buzzy on long trips, it is also amazing on the twisty roads in 2016 they also added a second counter balancer to the motor that makes it run much smoother! between the KTM and the Yamaha the Yamaha is a better bike (smoother more reliable and better fuel economy) the KTM is more unique looking and still a great bike.
Of the two I think I would stick with the street triple, re: you like it, you own it, the street triple has more power and arguably the better motor better ego nomics and better handling than the Ducati 696, I think you already have the better bike. sometimes your Hart wants a different bike and that's a big consideration, and if the rest doesn't matter that much than get the bike that will make you want to ride more!
Livermore California, mines Rd, connects Livermore to San Jose, by 70 miles of twisty roads, also passes by the lick observatory with some great views, the normal ride is a 50 out and back rout that give you 100 miles of tight twisty roads! feel lucky to live near such a great road way!
The 797 is a more detuned motor, so I would not expect the same sound at least not exactly, I would expect it to be quite similar though, from what you hear in the Video I think it would be safe to say they would sound the same, but side by side I think they would sound a bit different. would it sound amazing.....YES! They are quite different bikes, comparing them is difficult as they differ so greatly, the MT07 is a budget friendly bike with vary manageable power delivery, up-right seating comfortable ergonomics and reliability nearly beyond compresence, all while keeping to the basics and no more. for the novice and intermediate rider the bike will do everything they need and more! all in a Naked bike package. The Ducati is more of a high performance sport bike with lots of expensive components (breaks, suspension, chaises and motor) that brings expert level performance to a Naked bike package, reliability of these bikes are good but nothing like the Yamaha, comfort is at a sacrifice of performance and cornering clearance. if you plan to commute on your bike the MT07 is the better bike, if you want street credibility and seek the approval of others the Ducati is, cooler! if your are planning track days and are an expert rider the Ducati is a better bike. hope this helps!
They are a bit of a different bike, but yes the 797 came out after the 796. The “796” has about 10 more HP and 10 more ft lbs of torque. Seems strangest first but the hole of the 797 was to make a more approachable bike, from reviews the 797 also has a bit more road friendly suspension (softer). Thanks for checking out the video

In 2022 the industry seems focused on large TFT screens and blue tooth connectivity to sell bikes, and the latest ride modes are focused on lower power modes as a default, to smoothen out the throttle response. I'm not sure either add to the betterment of this bike.

My 796 Cruses at 156 kmph in sixth gear. I am rarely ever in sixth gear. The sweet spot is 4600 RPM for cruising.

I have a 2009 Street Triple. I'm considering buying a 2012 Monster 696. Is it worth it? Love my Triumph.

I never noticed it ever getting hot, I also don't ride in traffic, but no issues on very hot days riding!
