How to setup a motherboard test bench before building your gaming PC
Setting up a little test bench is a really good idea to test your components BEFORE building your new Gaming PC.
In this video i will show you the assembly process of an Intel LGA1700 socket platform and things to look out for when testing.
Doing this before you put it all in your PC case can save hours of painful troubleshooting and highlight any potentially faulty parts, or incorrectly installed component.
And as you will see in the video, you can do everything right and still not get a display signal first time!

Doing a great job, I have been Subed after I seen you in the chat at Carey Holzman's channel. I am about to build again for the first in many years. A lot has changed and it's great to be able to see the hands on and ins and outs of PC builds.
Thanks for the sub! and hope you next build goes well. If not we are here to help
Awesome video, thanks for sharing you lovely people 🙂
Our pleasure!
Thanks Mike. Loved this video.. Its so relaxing to watch all parts come together.( Used your Links as well .. guys remember to use it ) 🎉
Awesome thank you!
I have never built a Pc on a test bench I guess I've been lucky and everyone I have built has worked inside the case
Test bench is so pointless. You're just building your PC twice. If you do it right the first time, you're good. Just don't duck up, it's not that difficult. Completely building it and then having to take it apart just to build it into the case is so goofy. It's not like when you do that some cables can't disconnect etc. it's just an extra step that can potentially even cause issues in a working build
@@oceanlawnlove8109 That's why I have always built inside the case
do whatever works for you, but i would try getting a post before putting everything in and cable managing.
when you build as many pc's as i do, every now and then your get a part that doesn't work, so prior testing helps to lessen the frustration
@@mikesunboxing With the amount of PC's you build I would do the same!
Always advise my friends to do this first. Finally The Video! Thanks Mike!
it is good advice and good practice. thanks for watching
Great content as always..! As for tutorials your charisma matches Perfectly which makes it sooo simple to understand every step.
Keep up the good work!
Crazy underrated channel...
Stay Safe 'n' Healthy!!!!
very kind of you, thanks
Lovely job Mike, extremely helpful, well explained all round, thank's.
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome tips and tricks, Mike! I sure wish I had this kind of advice when I built my first PC. Highly recommended for anyone building a gaming PC.
yeah me to, we had to learn the hard way in the pre internet era
I love the thrill of putting my new Pc together and firing it up for the first time seeing that beautiful post screen 💪😇😉🥳🥳
yeah that is something i think we all look forward to
Foreshadowing 😉 nice touch 😏
cheers , and glad you are home safe and well
Brilliant video; thank you.
Thanks that is very kind of you to say
Excellent review on safely building and bios updating. Years ago this wud be fraught with worry putting it together but since following your channel its been confidence boosting every tutorial. Thank you for always being thorough and showing how to! Have great weekend Mike and Kath 🐈👍
Glad you liked it! we try and make these videos accessible and not overly techincal if it isn't needed. keep it simple is the best way
Well thought out video Mike, Im sure it will be ever so helpful to those with issues on the Discord.
that is the plan
Thanks Mike and Lady Kath for the great review. I see you are using your favorite graphics card Mike. The awesome GT 1030. 😄 I have an ASUS GT 1030. Use it mainly for troubleshooting. Great budget card for basic builds on a tight budget. Thanks for sharing guys. Take care. Cheers
cheers Rick, weird stuff happening with this card from time to time. probably needs a good clean on the pcie slot
@@mikesunboxing It was probably the PCI slot spitting it out thinking "Whats this crap hes making me hold ???"
@@uglybob7505 haha yeah you might be on to something there
Good one Mike. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it james
Great how too video.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for a great video, if we used an AIO can the Fan & Radiator placed near to the edge of the motherboard new the CPU, assume that need to raise the Radiator same level as MOBO and in Vertical Orientation / Standing on its side (if this makes sense).
yes for a short while it can be mounted wherever possible
@@mikesunboxing Thanks Mike, extremely useful video; going to build my AIO G14 I7 Mobo in mid Summer
Thank you. Not having built a computer for over ten years I’m just wondering how common it is for a pc not to boot up once the build is done on newer components. Unless you missed something obvious I’m not sure why it wouldn’t boot up? Based on your experience what have been some reasons a pc hasn’t booted up. Is is largely a loose cable?
Hello! It can be a number of reasons, and a loose cable is certainly one of them. Find a good guide - like this one 😊 and follow it carefully. Building it out of the case is a really good idea, as it is MUCH easier to diagnose things. Once it boots (POST) then it is time to put it all into the case.
@skystalker7700 afaulty ram stick or not properly seated in the slots are a common problem for a non boot or two different sticks .I started building pcs in 1999 and found it quite common in building them
great video
Glad you enjoyed it
I personally would love to see, although I’ve already got this matter resolved, a video by Techtubers about software and hardware you should have to help diagnose pc problems: such as spare low end GPU (GT710) that doesn’t require pci-e power, psu tester device, spare ram, spare cpu etc spare usb key with windows 10/11 another usb with pre-downloaded antivirus / anti malware, mem test software etc.
i'll see what i can do
edit: he has a tutorial up from 2 years ago, besides my usb was already fat32
hey Mike could you do a video on how to do this "drive partition" thing you say you need to have done prior to updating bios? Thanks
sure here is it ruclips.net/video/8itePyemc9M/видео.html
I made a plug in Power Switch using a momentary switch with two wires soldered to it and at the other end a modified Mobo connector that now just has 2 female pins to plug into the Mobo for the +/- posts on the Mobo.
handy to have
I accidentally cut my finger while unplugging the 24pin cable 😢 after testing out of the cabinet
sorry to hear that, hope it heals up soon
@@mikesunboxing yes it was minor cut😅
Me 2, cutting my finger recently putting into case a I5 Mobo, just small graze but quite bit of blood came out of my finger
MSI & Intel. it goes well together. i know thanks to MUB HQ. 😀
MSI does go great with Intel. 👍😁 Been using MSI since my i7-3770 B85 chipset motherboard days. Which still works today since 2012. Cheers
cheers WAPB
Never bothered always built in case always booted 1st tine😊
Yeah, roll them dice !!!! Testing first and building second is for lesser people 🙂
your luck will run out one day, it is just a matter of time
@tridens aren't you just special?
I ALWAYS update to the latest (non Beta) BIOS. My son will not let me do that on his though. He's askaired.
yeah i understand that
Usually first time will setup outside the box to test.
Good idea to do that before you get to far ahead and might have to undo it all
Ugh, Intel Stock cooler. And, hate that style retention clip.
yeah it is a horrible design really
CRAP JOKE FRIDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!
Say what you like about waiters, but I think they bring a lot to the table !!!
They really do 😂
Good one Bobo.
