How did you get the lock face geometry just right ? You didn’t end up with and lock rock or blade play? How did you know what thickness to grind the white paper to like was it the same as the original blade? I have so many questions lol I am sorry. I’ve only ever made fixed blades from scratch but I would love to make blades for my folders
Well, around 1:58 you can see that I traced the outline and the holes from the original blade. I left a bit extra to allow for some fine tuning to avoid lock rock as you mentioned. I ordered the white paper stock with pretty much the same thickness as the original blade so there was not much to do in terms of overall thickness. As the blade is not hollow-ground or anything, measuring the angle was pretty straightforward as well. As long as all of this is dialed in before hardening (obviously) you should be all right. (Tbh, the Ambitious is not a super-precise knife to begin with - but that's what made it a good beginner project in my opinion.)
