I am a Columbia Alumnus (Class of '78), and active in Catholic Campus Ministry while an undergraduate there. It appears to me that Fr. Roger does not have the right stuff for Columbia. Even Republican me learned about the social justice writings of Thomas Merton and the gentle defiance of Columbia Chaplin Father George Barry Ford. There is genocide happening now in Gaza, and may I remind you that our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has criticized Israel for its terrorist acts in Gaza. I strongly suggest that Fr. Roger read more of Thomas Merton.

Whether praying or turning "yellow" and running away when the tidal wave of sin gets ugly doesn't make the threat of violence and evil disappear. Perhaps when it gets so ugly and evil and touches the lives of everyone, passive or active, can the sin be consciously approached, condemned and put down for an extended period of time. Sin never goes away. It's like a death gene. The cancer held in remission only to return at a later date and consume life. It may be what makes "original" sin original.
Praying works, and sometimes running away is the right action: King David in the Old Testament did it when persecuted by King Saul. At the end of time, maybe sin will go away entirely, if G-d can somehow facilitate the repentance of demons and any other souls in Hell. That would be a happy day.
