The best mod for your S-Max/Galaxy?! (Switchback LED DRL indicators!)

- In this video i talk about what I think is the best OEM+ style mod, for those of you who like the subtle small changes. I think this is an excellent, quick and cheap upgrade that people who own S-Max mk1 and Galaxy mk3 should consider, but it’s not just for these cars; it’s ideal for any car as it just goes in place of your original indicator bulb, incorporating a DRL into your cars headlight in as little as 10 minutes.

For installation to S-Max / Galaxy:
-Chop of the connector from the LED bulbs.
-Remove your existing indicator bulb
-Push these into place, they don’t ‘click’ as you’d expect but they hold well.
-Take the BLACK wire that went to the connector you chopped off and ground this. Anything nearby metal will be fine.
-Take the RED wire that went to the connector you chopped off, and splice this into pin8 on the headlight loom (top row, in the middle)
-Take the WHITE wire that was separate, and wire into an ignition live feed. There is a 15a fuse towards the back of the fuseboard that is switched with ignition.

The S-Max headlights are standard just with the LED DRL replacement indicator bulb fitted.
Going to wire mine to the normal lights, so I can turn them off. Already installed HID in my projector style housing, and LEDs elsewhere, makes a massive difference in night time driving. Kyle you should grab a set of projector style headlights with HID, highly recommended.
HIDs are a massive improvement over halogen reflectors hence i’ve fitted them to my Escort (have a video coming in the future when i actually get time to edit it) but i won’t be doing the mod to this S-Max as it isn’t actually my car, in this case i was just using it to showcase a mod i fitted for someone else
@@KylesCarsYT I was just about to fit my DRL kit today, then I saw they have to turn off (by law) when the dipped beam or side lights come on. Not sure its worth the tickets or worse.
@@casparharte Only when factory fitted, it doesnt apply to retrofits unless the light is dazzling at night. These arent bright enough to be dazzling at night so you won't have any issues at all.

@@casparharte I’ve never heard of anyone ever having issues, especially on such an OEM looking mod it’s doubtful if any more than a couple police officers know it’s actually a mod and not standard.
I’ve been pulled over for other things and not at all we’re they bothered about my lights, I even run purple lights too and they weren’t bothered.

Just one question if I can please.. did you run the white wire from the drivers side and join up to the passenger side white to make "1" wire to piggyback? Thanks

Fitted today. Switches to indicator fine but only the first time its used in that ignition cycle then wont switch from drl to indicator again until ignition is powered off and on but does the same again. Any ideas please? Same for both sides!

May I ask you, where do you connect that white wire....into interior fuse box? position fuse 5? Or where?
i used F43 in engine bay fusebox, but you can use any that’s ignition live if you want them as DRL’s, or wire into the sidelights so they work on sidelights only
I put mine on couple of weeks ago. All works fine until I turn my engine on. The orange light then flicker like strobes

Do you know if there is an equivalent for the rear lights? I.E Rear indicator (Amber) Tail light (Red)? thanks
not in the bulb units i’m aware of, but you can get sequential switchback strip lights in any colour that switches to the sequential amber. Search ebay for “switchback drl X” replace X for the main colour your after i.e red and see what crops up

Interesting mod Kyle - How are the LED's holding up and have many of them failed yet. Sadly these cheaper Chinese ones don't seem to last too long...?
Nothing wrong with these been on the car 14 months now. Everything is the same cheap Chinese stuff, just when you buy named products rather than from ebay your paying for a name on the box that’s all.
The problem is when you start buying the stupid cheap stuff like the sidelight 501 bulbs you can get a pack of 10 for £2- that’s when it’s from product rejects but where it’s something like this £10-£15 for a pair your money saving isn’t on cheap rubbish that’ll break in a few months- it’s saving is in not having a box with a name on it

@shanebadham5338 yes Xenon headlights are identical other than the projector and bulb fitment.
