  • We took a trip out to Lake Conway to crappie fish and ended up fishing for yellow bass. We then moved to Palarm Creek to try for crappie and got a couple of surprises.

I fish the south side of the lake...I don't believe it is as good as it used to be due to flooding in and out...

Yellow stripe (bass) are native to to many lakes and rivers in North America so if they were introduced to waters of your area, they won’t bother much I wouldn’t think. As for me in Alabama, I love to catch them and they’re my favorite scaley fish to eat, prefer them over crappie personally. They’re sweet tasting like a bream or shell cracker

We are kayak fishing. Do you know of a good place to put in to get to some good spawning areas. Also looking for a place to put in to get to some docks with out too long of a paddle. We put in a Pierce Creek once but had to paddle a ways to get to any docks.

@@ADVSM I haven’t fished Conway much but it is a great crappie lake. I think that Pierce creek is the most popular for kayaking. I’ll say this, because of it being shallow the crappie don’t have a lot of options for deep water. They absolutely love the cypress trees. If you can jig around those trees, you’ll eventually find them in there spawning. They’ll come up shallow around the bank in general with just a little bit of cover. Sea walls etc.
So if I were going to Conway, I’d focus on the cypress trees for good crappie action

@@RaisedOutdoors yea, I've heard they like to spawn in shallow areas that offer deep water near by that they can get back to quickly.

It’s ok around the docks and structure. They start moving to deeper water though when it gets hot like this
