Ain't got no clash sound but when we started early 2000s that's what we did. We kept our own events, even played couple events for free and yeaaa.... the fan's came and so did the gigs.

I came up in Queens with my family sound and we would book the store fronts, Elites, Lorna, Brasserie, etc. and we would book out sounds like Bass Odyssey or Afrique or whoever, we had to get the flyers, advertise in restaurants or other dances, foot to road, we would invite all the gyal dem we know, yutes will follow, when we start booking out top tear clubs like Q-club or Crystals or Trafalgar square then promotions had to be on point, we don't beg nobody for anything, some sounds never come up learning it from the bottom, they just piggy back of another sound, I disagree that it killed sound clash culture all around, maybe just in New York, I travel and clashes in England or other Caribbean island outside of Jamaica are loyal, gyal dem show up and yute dem venture out, Jamaica sound clash culture more loyal than some US clashes, this is just my opinion, you can agree or disagree

What really killed sound clash is that the The sounds been playing the same music and speech for the last 25 years... Reggae, dancehall, a Dubplatefell off at least 10 years ago

110% true...if you aren't playing regularly, how can you have a good product? If you aren't investing in promoting yourself why should anyone else invest in you? And like you said at the drop, how can anyone discover your brand...Thing is, it's still possible to keep your own events...Why promoters are booking sounds without any name, and a weak stage show, amazes me.

Legit argument right here…… if you can’t attract your own fans why should a promoter book you

You're right and one of the main things is nuff selector/soundmon is not "OUTSIDE" there just on social media and these soundclash fraternities on social networks and feel like dem know people and have no real fans but because of click likes they feel they do!!!they need to do road and interact with real people and self-promoting their sound! I care zero who wants to vex up facts is facts 💯

This is why I have to respect downbeat song system. No sound system in the State of New York put in as much work and self promotion as downbeat did. Tony Screw kept 95.9% of his own dance sessions from the 1970s straight backup to the late 1990s.

Facts 💯 we used to flex on 109 and 130th chin you remember absolutely right no more back yard party's day jams barbecue like back in the day for self promotion. However are those options available to the up and comers? I remember the creation of Agony I remember going to Sharkys day jams and a pretty posse barbecue. I don't think those times are available anymore. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok I think this whole thing is being over analyzed and we're missing what it really is. Nothing in particular destroyed soundclash culture. While they may have sped up the process at the end of the day as the saying goes "father time is undefeated". Everything if you look back at the history of not just clash culture but life changes after it has had a run. Look at how sound system evolved from artist singing live on systems to actually having a selector and mic man. It was inevitable that after a couple decades that style would run its course and would just be part of the good old days conversation. That's called LIFE!!! Everything if we look at all aspects of life for one reason or the other changes and don't know why sound clash culture would be immune to change. It's had a great 30 plus year run and now it's dwindled down to being a thing of the past in terms of public interest. So while we can blame, selectors, fans, lack of venues, violence in these events, cops shutting them down, lack of funds, covid or whatever we can think of while they may have contributed it was gonna inevitably happen cause it's just how everything in life works. That's why In every aspect of life we can talk about the good old days. Let's welcome sound clash culture to that conversation... God bless 🙏🏾

The REAL question is what has killed the dominance of JAMAICAN reggae worldwide??? Most of us fans of Jamaican reggae have simply gotten OLD. Same with most of us sound system selectas, mcs, owners and operators. The powers that be have CHANGED. A Stephen Marley as well as a Steel Pulse in 2020/21/22 OPEN for Rebelution. A Protoje opens for Iration. How are DUBPLATES from say Beres Hammond supposed to move reggae fans in America in 2022 when the days of nationwide Beres Hammond US tours are DECADES in the past now??? Same with just about ANY big Jamaican dubplate artist. Opposed to just 15-20 years ago, the average American reggae fan has moved away from Jamaican reggae music. If mostly Jamaican reggae continues to play in soundclashes, soundclash will continue to decline outside of its core circle in America. Maybe though that’s EXACTLY what it needs to do and where it needs to be. A FAR more exclusive thing again. On the downside it would mean a lot less income for the Jamaican as well as international reggae artists.

seem to me that the younger generation not so much interested and excited about sound system. i kinda blame the ole veterans of sound system bcuz they never try to bring new bloods to the sports and train them on their system. another thing i feel killed the clash is that many sound man want millionaire money to take part. i know man hafi get paid but man hafi be reasonable.

With very few exceptions, the biggest reggae acts in Europe are European in 2022. The biggest selling reggae acts in America are mainly American. Biggest reggae acts in New Zealand? From New Zealand. There is still a TON of great Jamaican reggae being produced in 2022 yet it is no longer reaching the audiences it used to. Diluted and hidden by maaaaaany other mediocre productions. The reggae market is totally oversaturated. In Jamaica as well as abroad. Just 15-20 years ago when a boom riddim would drop (and there were maaaany) it would go around the world. Reggae djs would be playing these tracks in the dance and on the radio all over the globe. College students of all ethnicities back then knew some of the new Beres or Buju or Bountys already without the sound/dj having to introduce EVERYTHING. That internationally shared body of killer new Jamaican music no longer really exists (there might be individual tracks or riddims once in a while still yet but that’s it) and reggae fans outside of Jamaica have seemingly moved on. The fans of the popular American reggae bands f.e. seem to know or care little about reggae sound system culture. They prefer live music and often feel that its superior to “dj music”. So there might be little new blood/growth/development from that direction. European reggae is obviously a little bit different due to its closer link to Jamaican culture in general. Same with the Japanese. Sounds are mainly voicing older material from reggae or dancehalls prime. Material that the average ACTIVE reggae fan worldwide (people who support lots of reggae events annually) does not identify much with anymore in 2022. Unless some new sounds will start voicing these new artists (in America acts like Iration, Rebelution, Tribal Seeds, J Boog, Stick Figure and what have you) and mainly focusing on them and their fans, soundclash outside of Jamaican culture & areas with lots of Caribbean people will continue to decline in America. If those kindsa artists were featured more on dubplate by some fresh new sounds, MAYBE some of their fans would become interested & involved in the sound system/soundclash arenas. OR if that fails (it is unlikely to succeed and I as a supporter of more Jamaican reggae kinda cringe at just the THOUGHT), maybe try to involve more LIVE elements again, where sounds perform with their own sets of vocalists doing LIVE performances rather than relying mainly on dubplates.

Also what killed soundclash is not having a teir system A, B, C, D the top group or teir being like the 🦕 or the dubb heavy sound system going down to the D teir young sound not a lot of dubplate so we allow them to use 45s and still compete that way we have more sounds playing in clashes and we will get rid of dubb collecters cause now there a place for everyone not only the dubb heavy sounds because most dubb collecters are collecting to compete with the dubb heavy sound so they are not playing out cause they can't compete were they think they belong so they keep collecting instead of playing out with what they have

Facts but their are sound people who don't think and want things handed to them. The old school way of doing things vs the new way of obligation I have a sound so you must pay me cuz I have dubb. No work but want the glory witch is killing off most promoters so they don't want to have anything to do with keeping sound clash and will force every sound to now have to keep their own sound clash
