My issue is that, already the health budget allocation to the public health sector is 848 billion rands over the MTEF (medium term expenditure framework), this money has been allocated and handled by the government, 27 billion of which is allocated to infrastructure, and sadly I don’t know what has happened to this money… then the NHI will further give the government access to more funds to allocate to a unified system, I’m afraid that the same corruption we have seen time and again will happen under the NHI

4:25 Thando's response to what he said did not align with the concern. It's all good & well to see the bright side, but there are preexisting issues already that needed to be tackled before this bill could have been signed.

Thus comes down to service delivery, right? If what I think this means for South Africans, then it will be a complete mess when our government starts dictating our health benefits and where we should go for any particular treatment. If our service delivery of state own entities is what it is today , then we might as well refuse to pay taxes! We will be paying higher taxes to fund this and with poorest service delivery in health!!how disgusting and shameful of this government!!!

Ppl really think Drs & specialists are going to rely on this govt to pay 70% of their bills. We need healthcare professionals to sign on. If they do not the NHi cannot exist. You would think the govt would have sat & listened to their concerns. Many govt departments & municipalities do not even pay Eskom.
Also no you won't be able to choose what public or private or Dr or clinic you go to. The NHI will tell you who & where you can go & for what. Imagine the Dr on your NHI list is full till Dec. You will just have to wait till Dec. Just see what is happening with the NHS in England.

How is the cost going to be reduced, recieving the same level of care is like saying no will be unemployed which under the current State is impossible, may be for you guys in the urban it will work, just come to the Transkei where there's roughly over 5 million people with dysfunctional district hospitals, which are falling apart with tired and demotivated staff, may be 4 max private hospitals whose bed capacity combined is less than a 1000 beds, may be it will work in Surburbs, I dont see it working even in Khayelitsha for example.
