Here's a tip,..if you find a piece of granite slab that is leftover and small enough to fit into your oven, take it with you !It's great if your oven doesn't go that high and it's perfect to make pizza and bread !That Pizza bottom would have had more color (stone oven effect) to it with a granite slab .
I learned from Dom on SeaWolf that if you are diving with a partner you can cut the fins off while still in the water and on the the spear that way you can bag them and keep hunting.
You guys are great. The whole Lionfish thingy was hilarious! Smiles from ear to ear. Yes, shoot them all, but eat the larger ones. Lets see your "filet" technique on an upcoming video. We may have some helpful pointers, when it comes to prepping fish for dinner. Tight lines and full sails. Thanks for sharing. You two are wonderful!
Very nice! I watch so many cruising series. It is the same thing over and over. Privileged folks fulfilling some blue water fantasy. This episode gets into the reason we travel. We are uncovering what the human condition is for ourselves by listening to the humanity of others through their accounts. Such a great opportunity you have seized upon, and as video diary personalities you are at the perfect age and demeanor to be receptive to it. Good job and thank you for sharing. There are so many forces highlighting our differences it is nice to see how similar we are in our struggles.
You guys are so much fun to watch. Have enjoyed it so much. Thanks for sharing your adventure. I am dying to retire and sail for months at a time. Your sense of humor is just so natural and easy. keep posting away..
I have to say; I've followed several sailing videos and really enjoyed them. But your videos are the best as your personalities come through and put a smile on the faces of those who watch. Vids are informative and well balanced. Hope you'll keep it up and allow all of us to continue to follow you on your adventures. I sail out of Whidbey Island, Washington.
I love the name of your channel! If you guys made tee shirts with a sailing background saying "Monday Never" I'd be interested in buying one! Consider sailing to Puerto Rico "the island of charm" I used to live there so if you'd like tips on what to do there get in touch with me. Smooth sailing to you both!
Thanks for another great video. I really enjoyed the tour of Montserrat. I have been concerned about them since the volcano eruption. The guide was great. Those little towns on the islands look so interesting and inviting. Looking forward to the next episode. Happy Sailing!
Great Island videos, need a little butter with that warm Baguettes. Fish only need a small splash of alcohol to kill them, you need some industrial set of rubber gloves to hold the Lion Fish. Good more videos please!
Looks like you guys are making some incredible memories. I am enjoying your videos. You are going to some of the islands that I have missed, but now I almost feel like I have been there. Enjoy....You may not yet realize how lucky you are to be living such a wonderful adventure. All the best....
You said it, six pack challenge! Perhaps you can use one of these to inject alcohol (sans needle) into the gills of the fish. It might be more efficient and less messy. Might even make more sense to get a larger one, like used with livestock. A turkey baster might work but not as well. www.healthykin.com/p-3057-bd-catheter-tip-syringe.aspx?gclid=CjwKEAiA8qG1BRDz0tmK0pufw3QSJACfn6olu7GG6FkclwZdhjUMM9UjTZuKumyMbOsj7S4H0Tg9XBoCVczw_wcB
Those lion fish look scary. I'm sailing the gulf coast of Florida right now on my 36 foot sailboat. I can't wait to get to some blue water. I just started making some videos of my sailing experiences.
If you come across another mooring buoy like that take a rope, hold both ends and lasso the buoy with the middle... this should then hold you on it will you fix a line. Have fun
Hmmmm might be onto something there with marinating the fish before cooking it! :) Looking forward to your next vids! Just a thought, if you had either some chain or a strong bridal with a stainless steel hook or snap you could use that to attach to the mooring ball chain easily as well. Fair winds you two and keep devouring those lion fish!!!
Wilfred used to drive me around when i was in medical school in Montserrat. It was a beautiful place I used to surf there drink many brews Climbed up to the top of the volcano and looked at sulfur block 8 feet high and 5 feet wide in 1985 your feet would burnPlymouth my my home base the post office Lillian's and meeks
This was your best video yet except for SHOWING the Rocket on video, Gross :) Everything else was awesome. The best part of all was Monstserrat. Finding out about other people and other lands is really fascinating. Its better than google because you get to meet the people through your eyes. Your boating info is all very helpful to other. Keep up the good work.
A buddy of mine says that Lion fish normally don't have very big fillets, he says a better way to cut them is into chops, (straight through the fist vertically) you have to eat around the bones, but he says that the meat is flaky enough that it isn't hard at all, and you end up with more meat in the end.
I have seen other cruisers that cut the fins off lionfish with scissors while they are still on the spear. It may have been "sailing la vagabonde". Give that a try and let us know how it works.
Cat and Will, my wife and I are LOVING your videos!!! You have such great personalities and they shine through in each episode. :-) I have two tips for you: 1. For killing fish with alcohol I use one of the plastic squeezy containers that lemon juice comes in. You can put the alcohol of your choice in there and then you have a small, very easy to direct jet of alcohol that you can direct straight into the gills with zero wastage (Wasting alcohol is a cardinal sin!) 2. When you upload your videos you can put 'mondaynever' as a tag in the tags section. This way, when your video finishes and RUclips shows a selection of related videos for viewers to watch next, your own videos will be promoted (because you tag each video with this same tag) instead of other peoples videos. I'm sure you guys will hit 100K subscribers soon, and it seems a bit ridiculous that someone with 1000 times less subscribers than you is giving you tips, but I'm sure you will see even better results if you use this tip. Thanks again for making your videos, you are inspiring a new generation of young cruisers! Fair winds! Chris and Rossella
I have seen Wilfred on multiple RUclips channels from people sailing around the world, giving them tours. I've even seen Wilfred on travel programmes on Dutch, German and Belgian tv giving the tour to the presenters of multiple channels and on British Lonely Planet,...that Wilfred has that place pretty mutch locked down .
Another great video. Gotta love the fish filleting and preparation. I'm hungry now. Good to see that seat is getting some good use. Please send photos to our FB account or email. Goes well with the boat! We are really getting itchy to get out on the water soon!
I have just watched all your videos and they are excellent. I am looking to buy another yacht, a 40ft Class 12 Beneteau to sail up the East coast of Australia and some of the Pacific. Fair winds, Fitz
Gotta be honest, unless you have reason to believe you're allergic to lionfish, I think you're being more wary of them than you need to be. From personal experience, it's somewhere between a bee and wasp sting. Spear them, then put gloves on when you clean them. Scissors work fine if you can otherwise just use the fillet knife. I wouldn't bother clipping them underwater unless you're bagging them on scuba.
+Bad Sailboat They're super easy to spear, which is nice because I'd figure on about 3 per person per meal. I'd say they're worth it, after all you can't exactly find them in many restaurants. They're somewhere behind hogfish and grouper but ahead of most snapper in my book. Next time you see one, shoot it and try it yourself.
+Bad Sailboat They're an invasive species in the Caribbean. As far as easy to spear, they literally just sit there all puffed out and staring at you so you can get as close as you need to without them swimming away or hiding. I don't even use the band on my pole spear half the time.
+Andrew Jones That is interesting, from the way people go on about lionfish if one gets stuck, barbed, stung by one that person is sure to die. Thank you for the understanding that they are not going to kill.
+Sailing Miss Lone Star Aubrey & Rob, see how well those seats work in the cockpit. We should try to meet up when you are in Maine!!! We're always up for a road trip!
If you pack them in ice they will die pretty quickly. I think Lion Fish tastes better than Snapper. It is one of the best eating fish in the ocean. Scissors work best for removing the spikes.
I would like to share a story with you about Montserrat. I worked with a fellow at the hospital lab that quit the lab business to go to Montserrat Medical school. He was divorced and had a 9 year old girl with him. I was in awe of his fearless approach to life. Raising a child and going to medical school....wow. He would call me and ask me to buy medical text books out of my pocket and mail them to him. I was doing my part as a friend. Anyway...the darn volcano blew up and he was evacuated. Next time I heard from him...almost a year later...he was in medical school in London. I lost track of him after that. But I thought I would share the story with you because u treated us to the devastation that changed the course of so many lives.
Suggestion - that I have not tried; get a lid for the bucket that you killed the lionfish in. Drop the fish in to kill them, then take them out, and put the lid back on, and save for your next fish. Personally, I would use the gin to kill, and drink the vodka, with a lime and some tonic water.
+Sailing Madrigal Hey Sailing Madrigal! There have been a couple of places where I wouldn't be entirely comfortable going to shore by myself - and then I don't. But for the most part the islands that we have been to have been incredibly safe and I haven't had a moment's concern.
There was a man who said..we had to evacuate and they told us, it's just for the week-end, so pack a bag for 3 days then you can go back. were still waiting for Monday, he said...ha ha ha cause they never got back
Would inexpensive rubbing alcohol serve as an alternate to Gin or Vodka for subduing the catch of the day? But, if it is happy hour, one must do what one must do!
Please use a Diver Down flag when swimming around in a harbor...SSL's lady got run over, fortunately the tender was going very slow...the swimmer had no flag...
Loved this one, guys! You've definitely got me intrigued about Montserrat...hopefully we'll be following in your wake soon - after we run the 8 Tuff Miles in St. John. Question: what do you think caused the nosebleed when diving? I always have trouble equalizing the pressure -Tasha
To kill the fish in future just hit it over the head real hard in one sharp blow, then chop it's head off. What type of boat have you got? Great videos by the way keep the content coming! Thanks for your time and sharing!
Loving your video travels, I lived in St.Martin for a while about 15 years ago, thinking on going back on my own sailboat. When I was there the internet was in it's infancy, how do you get connected to the web on your travels on the boat?
+olof lee With difficulty!! A lot of beers at bars with wifi. Occasionally we can pick it up on the boat, which usually involves hours at a time of sitting on the bow and hitting refresh. We often think that maybe we would get more out of this experience if we were forced to 100% disconnect... but then we wouldn't have all of the video and blog memories to look back on once we are forced back to the land of Mondays and income.
+Monday Never Thanks for that. I wouldn't rush back if I were you, but if you do it'll be hard to adjust back to 'normal' life, so easy to get used to the laid back life in the Carib. was for me anyhow. All the best.
Haystack Hall You can download Navionics, or even better create a WiFi network on your boat and look at Explorer from the nav PC and access the chattplotter.
Great video thanks for sharing it. You should try whole frying the loin fish when they are that size. Cut the spines there are only 3 spots to watch out for about 10-12 across the top 1 on each side and 3-4 on the anal fin its just the tips to watch out for. Clean out the guts a couple slices of the skin then seasoning then dredge in flour shake then fry whole. Your pizza looked awesome. What were your toppings? Again thanks for sharing & keep them coming..
Lionfish: Get a pair of good fishing gloves, (there are good kevlar ones with coated palms out there, but even the inexpensive Berkley ones will work, as would thick kitchen cleaning gloves, most likely). Pick them up, and either bop 'em on the head or do ike jime (luckypeach.com/guides/how-to-perform-ike-jime/). This is a good idea with all fish. You won't get big filets from lionfish, but they are good, clean white flesh, easy to harvest since they don't run away, and you're doing the Caribbean a favor while getting dinner.
+Garth Alexander Hey Garth - you can spend an infinite amount on this kind of trip or do it on the relative cheap. Some cruisers do it for as little as $500 a month. But that doesn't account for any drinking money and good times ashore, which we place a premium on. We have budgeted about $2000 a month and that has let us have a pretty good time. Obviously, that doesn't include whatever you decide to spend on a boat or maintenance. Hope that helps!
"Walking-around-Baguette" :D awesome!
The mammalian dive reflex is so AWESOME!!
Your videos are helping our winter blues! They also have me preparing to sell our house to following our dreams. Thank You so much.

I really enjoy your videos and your blog. Your approach to buying a boat was very informative and interesting. Enjoy!!
Outstanding video guys! I look forward to each new one. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experiences.
Thumbs up to the video! Looks like you're having a great time!
I like the video. Interesting to see Montserrat.
Cat is such a sweet spirit. Great job of filming and editing another interesting and enjoyable video.....thank you!
Finally a good use for Lon fish,
I'll watch this later when the HD is available. Based on the thumbnail, I think we might have a winner in the race to a 6 pack. Haha

Good job guys! Keep the videos coming!
Loving all your vlogs, thanks for posting!
Looks great LOL ! Lion fish !
Great video! Really looking forward to the next one.
great vid guys look forward to the next one
All those walking around baguettes are killing your 6-pack challenge odds! :)
Hard to pass up the bread & cheese on the French islands though.
Watching that walk around Baguette I wanted one.
great job on the mooring
Excellent video. Very nice. It could actually be a Travel Channel show in my opinion. Good job. 😎⛵️
+Sailing Pau Hana (Sailing Vessel Pau Hana) Awww man - thanks so much!!
Keep shooting those little suckers...hope ya'll are doing well. Love'in your videos. Cheers, Ted
thanks for the lion fish info. I will have to try it some day. great video.

Your anchoring issue at 6:00 can be solved with a Box Anchor.

Wow, everyone else I have seen handle that fish did it with gloves on lol!

I have two tips for you:
1. For killing fish with alcohol I use one of the plastic squeezy containers that lemon juice comes in. Really enjoying the videos! Too bad we didn't get to meet up when we were sailing through the BVI's. Keep the vids coming!! =D
Have you two ever thought of obtaining one of the new 360 degree cameras? That would be so fantastic, have enjoyed your vlogs.. they are outstanding!

+Sport A Seat Hey Sport-A-Seat! We will send pictures soon! We love the seat. It's become Cat's dedicated fishing chair...
Good to hear and glad you're enjoying it. I'll bet you'll have it for many, many years!
The pants at 8:34 earned the like on this vid.
Living the live. Cheers X 1K
I have a sudden urge for french bread...
I first thought you blew out a little fish from your nose :D
You guys have done some really nice videos, super well done but you've GOT to get a wind screen for your camera!
Alcohol abuse! :D You may need to shoot larger or just many more lionfish.
Great video, love all of the different locations. How long do you plan to stay out in the Caribbean?
+Sailing Miss Lone Star
Aubrey & Rob, see how well those seats work in the cockpit. We should try to meet up when you are in Maine!!! We're always up for a road trip!
Sounds great we will reach out before we head up there!
+Sailing Miss Lone Star Hey there! We're planning on being in the Caribbean until hurricane season hits - so until June or so.
Oh cool, have fun!
Just found your channel a few days ago, can't stop watching.....what camera are you using, very HD, thanks for documenting your journey!
I think you can take him the six pack challenge. i recommend crunches !!!!
If you pack them in ice they will die pretty quickly. I think Lion Fish tastes better than Snapper. It is one of the best eating fish in the ocean. Scissors work best for removing the spikes.

Cut the gills out. You need to get a pair of chain-mail gloves, and use a fillet knife to cut the gills out they will bleed out in seconds.
Suggestion - that I have not tried; get a lid for the bucket that you killed the lionfish in. Drop the fish in to kill them, then take them out, and put the lid back on, and save for your next fish. Personally, I would use the gin to kill, and drink the vodka, with a lime and some tonic water.

you need a big ye old admiralty style anchor
I see the winner of the 6 pack challenge. How long you giving it, till you declare a winner.

At 9:43, you mentioned that you were circled by yellowtail snapper, but that you couldn't eat them. Could I ask why not?
+Gerry C Hey Gerry - where we were was a protected marine park. No fishing of any kind is allowed, which is why there are SO MANY fish :)

But that doesn't account for any drinking money and good times ashore, which we place a premium on. We have budgeted about $2000 a month and that has let us have a pretty good time. Obviously, that doesn't include whatever you decide to spend on a boat or maintenance. Hope that helps!
Good work. Thanks. Kill more Lion Fish!
What does a mooring ball cost you per night?
It depends on the area. Typically around $30 a night, but it varies. We only stayed on mooring balls in nature parks where it was mandatory.
