My uncle in America bought a house that appeared in local guide books as one of the "50 most haunted houses in the state", with previous occupants having reported strange smells, and blood seeping up from the floor. He too noticed the smells, so he dug up the basement floor and found hundreds of dead rats: disposed of them all and the ghostly smells went away.

I love that to some people, the decision to move their entire life somewhere else on short notice is the more logical solution to seeing blood seep through floorboards, than just... looking under the floorboards... 😂

In parts of America, you have to disclose hauntings to potential buyers because of the stigma and how it can affect the property. I would love for that to come up in one of those court room shows.

Feelings of dread and being watched by something unseen are quite often result from the presence of infrasound. It's basically sound that can't be heard by most humans (>20 Hz.) It can also cause auditory and visual hallucinations.
It was first identified in a science lab where employees working late (when the rest of the building was quiet) repeatedly reported hauntings. A thorough check of the area identified a fan with a bad bearing as the culprit. Fixing the fan fixed the problem.

I once went to a "haunted house", you know the one's, these old, actually quite beautifully refurbished, Victorian houses.
All the people were in the dark attic that was huge (I was one of them) and all of them were pointing and screaming "OMG I SAW A GHOST!"
The whole time I didn't see shit, so I asked them why I didn't get harassed by ghosts and one person literally said "Well, ghosts only attack those who believe in them!"

    • @Caelinus
      @Caelinus 5 лет назад +100

So according to them the greatest defense against ghosts is not believing in them. So if a ghost shows up, just shrug and tell it you don't believe in it. Instant immunity.

Carbon monoxide, sensitivity to high electro-magnetic fields (such as in houses with bad wiring), or subsonic noise (like in "silent" air conditioning, or tremors too small to be noticed as earthquakes). Those all cause things like feelings of dread or danger, feelings of being watched or of a presence nearby, hallucinations, and health problems.

It doesn't have a lot to back it up (and in fairness, a house with bad wiring may also have other things wrong like strange chemicals leaking out of somewhere as fumes or into the drinking water that are a more likely culprit for hallucinations), but it's still a fair sight better than "there are ghosts", isn't it?

Also, to lose all credibility, my family house for generations, 180 years is perceived as haunted. I do agree too. But it’s a positive warm energy and the place I feel safest in the world.
Now, that said, I live in Northern Maine where the men are straight forward, generally sober, hard working and logical. 4 different men over the past 30 years came to do an estimate for work and refused to do it, leaving very good money on the table. The issue was on one side of the formal living room where my Grandaddy held court. Raised by a Victorian Mother, he was somewhat haughty or elitist. None of the men knew each other. I needed the floor refinished, new windows, plaster work and painting done. They said it was cold, eire like someone was just behind them watching them. I can easily imagine Grandaddy looking up from his book, barking out “Who are you? What are you doing here? State your business. Get out”. Lol. I did hire other people, but it was a weird coincidence that so many people bolted away. Nothing ever happened to scare me.
Within my circle I would say some of us think there is something to it NOT in an evil, wooo, screams, scary way. Just that there is so much we do not know yet as humans. Matter lasts forever. Maybe Love is a type of Energy and can touch you even after a loved one’s corpse is long gone? I have many friends who think there is something. We don’t know what. Having no other word for it, if asked we would say we believe possibly in good ghosts.

Even harder to sell are houses where someone was just murdered. The Realtor by American Law MUST tell buyers, who, while not necessarily superstitious… are usually put off. Bad energy, bad luck, bad feng shui, whatever. Some murder houses, if infamous, can’t be given away even. In these cases, the house is demolished and either made into a green space or a very different style house erected.

I can't imagine those houses on the island off of chile have particularly firm foundations. If you can drag it along with cattle, then a strong storm would probably move it too.

Storms here are a joke compared to what the US has the real thing that is a threat here is earthquakes but if the house can survive being dragged through that terrain then i guess they should be fine

Funny how Steven rags on about Americans and their interest in haunted places, when the first book I ever read about haunts was about British houses, manors, and castles. It seems to be a fascination that was brought to America. Look up Charleville Castle in Ireland; Dudley Stewart is a very nice man, and lives in a place that is claimed to be haunted.

At the same time as it become something tourists went to see,
i will guess that 99% of all houses they move now is for the tourists and not because they think it is haunted. ;)
My guess is that they used to move a house once ever 30 year or so when they did it because it was "haunted",
but now they do it once or twice every year for the tourists.. ;)
