I love that this channel exists.
I loved this I grew up with some vision but no depth perception and while it continued to get worse I learned to lean way over my plate and use my utensils to discover what was there now days I just ask where items r places or if at home scoop it myself so I know had a cousin who used to call me a dog because they thought that’s how I looked when eating
I come from a culture where we eat with our hands. So, unless this is soup, it’s not really a concern. I guess the only food I use utensils to eat with besides soups, are spaghetti, and saucy foods. Such as Alfredo In those cases, I just do what you did. See around with my utensils. Most of that is when I’m out in restaurants. When I’m at home, I default to my hands. Again with the exception of soup.
I'm low vision, so i can still "see" to some degree. but can be a challenge.
This video made me chuckle a bit to myself because of its relevancy… I am 53 years old and lost most of my site over the past 10 years. I just tell people that I’ve reverted to eating like a three-year-old but I think I’ll try using some of your tricks from now on.
Consider me a new subscriber… Thanks very much and have a great day!
Haha to each their own. If it works for you awesome, but finger foods are always good too! Glad to have you aboard. :)
I hadn't thought of feeling with the utensils for bite size. That's awesome! I do know the feel of things through the utensils, whether there is a "give" or not. Soft foods must be more difficult to feel.
So true!
Do you have favorite utensils or brands that are more sensitive then others? I am sighted and like to use the laqured chopsticks or bamboo forks when eating as it's much more tactile than a big old hunk of metal in the hand. I've carried a mighty fix picnic utensil kit in my purse for years.
Honesty, I've never really paid attention! I'll need to check out some options and get back to you! :)
I’m legally blind, and I use the same method that you do
Hello, left handed i use just a fork and right hand is to touch .. when i find a chunk of meat i fork that tight so i know where it is and take it from there :).. really never use a knife , and for restaurant wise exactly same
And i forgot the spoon is very useful too scoop lots of little bits , greets Mak
I always used smell to locate the food.
I use that same method
My best tip for you: scrape the mushrooms directly off the plate into a garbage can! Mushrooms are the worst, but everyone seems to love them except me. Haha
Texture wise, yeah, they can be off-putting for me, too. I didn't realize she had mushrooms! I was thinking, what ARE those?? Normally, if I can't identify what something is by sight, it doesn't go in my mouth. Texture is an issue for me.
Hahaha more for me then! I won’t offer to share. 😂
Lol, that reminds me of a meme I saw about cooking kale, with the last step being to dump in the trash
Cool video.
Thanks!!
Good evening
