I just got an Indonesian made Masterbilt Texan (Antique Natural finish) back in February 2021, and I’ve had it for over a year, which I am still playing, strung with D’Addario XL Chromes (12-52).
I've had 2 of these. The first was very impressive, but like a knucklehead I traded it away. The second one wasn't half the guitar the first was. I agree with 12Radius, (if you get a good one) definitely great for the money.
Hello. I got this guitar in Dec 2013'. Totally love it. Excellent craftmanship. The tone is excellent. Action was and still is excellent right out of the box. I feel that it sounds and plays better then my Gibson J160e and my Yamaha LS26. My Epiphone DR500mce is my 2nd choice. Thanks for the demo
So your saying the older/60's made Texans were made with laminated sides? I have a 1965 Texan FT79N and was under the impression that it was made with all the solid materials. Just clarifying... Thank you.
They did one, but it was a limited version... sounded and looked pretty good for the price. Such a pitty, I wish they had a quality version of the J45 too.
The limited Epiphone J-45 is back in stock at American Music Supply. No electronics and no solid back like the Inspired By Texan, but the Epiphone J-45 does have the proper scale length, 20 fret neck and the wider nut so it actually feels like a Gibson J-45. Solid top on laminate b&s, no scalloped bracing inside so it just doesn't sound the same but it gets you pretty close... The Texan has a longer scale, thinner nut and that distinctive Epiphone pickgaurd Generally not a fan of this guitar (hear it buzz in the flat-picking demo in this video? Horrible) but I am a fan of the Nanoflex pickup system in this guitar. Worth a buy if you like the feel and sound plugged and are willing to pay for a setup.
Mine has no fret buzz and I have been playing upon it for 3 years now. If the instrument in this video has fret buzz you can use the truss rod. Fret buzz is usually because of changing seasons.
It is indeed a very nice guitar for the price, was my first better acoustic. But its no comparison to higher end ones, now I have a larrivee, which of course sound way better, but it's like 4-5 times the price...
Did either David Crosby or Stephen Stills have one of these? Looks very similar to the guitar that Stephen Stills is holding on the front cover of the first Crosby, Stills and Nash album...
no, Harry!! On the front cover of their first album, Stills holds a Martin D-28. McCartney used an Epiphone Texan (but nothing to share with the one on the video above) to record Yesterday (tuned a tone lower)
You guys are getting all mixed up on these, and the reviewer is completely negligent by not explaining. The guitar he's demoing is NOT the Texan McCartney, Nash and Frampton played. Same name but completely different instrument.
I have owned this guitar for years, just couldn't put it down for another! In my experience, I think elixir phosphor bronze strings with nanoweb (.53 - .12) sound perfect on it. What strings are you guys using?
+emmixsun96 I've looked at the Hummingbird, Dove and the Texan. They're all cracking good guitars, and for the money beat a lot of so called 'High End' acoustics for sound. IMHO, and I've considered buying all three, if your money can stretch to it buy the 'Texan'. Even if you have to wait a little longer to save for it, you get more guitar for your $'s with the 'Texan'. I should have had one already but I had bills that need paying!!! Hopefully soon I'll have one in my collection. Hope this helps, good luck, peace out from the UK. Btw. Check out 'Ironman Inc' on RUclips, he does honest down to earth reviews on acoustic guitars.
+emmixsun96 Epiphone Hummingbird, Jumbo and J-45 are all cheaply made beginner instruments. They are made out of plywood. Sound horrible and play horrible; nothing like their Gibson built counterparts. All should be avoided really. However Epiphone does make some great budget acoustics. The AJ220S and PRO-1 Plus are good beginner level guitars. The Inspired By Texan is a step above those, more intermediate. A great guitar for open mics, playing in church, etc... Epiphone Masterbuilt guitars are also a great value... Proud owner of a Gibson J-45, PRO-1 Plus (my beach guitar), Epiphone Masterbuilt AJ-500M and many others.
plywood Eh? Thank you for your informed post. I had no Idea they called solid mahogany and spruce plywood I suppose the bone saddle and nut is plastic as well. RUclips is full of interesting people
Francesco Cavallin I agree with that. But the way I rectified that was by adding a bone nut and saddle to improve response. And then D’Addario 11’s were my strings of choice. It improved this axe quite a bit.
tell you what? I just got mine one, and has the same "problem". I'm thinking I'll have to pay to calibrate it. In fact the issue is in the 5th and 6th string, the same as in the video.

Well I would never order online. You definitely have to go to your local shop and play them all and that goes for gibson, martin ect. They all vary!

I own one that's natural like in this video and one that's a faded cherry burts and both are awesome.
Wow, very impressed with the Nanoflex sound. Very natural sounding.
I bought one used, it is my go-to guitar, live or in the studio.
Would you say it’s easy to play?
@@SuperElGuapo69 I would. Tweak the set-up to your liking, you'll be good to go.
Graham Nash used an Epiphone acoustic in the hollies. it had a double pickguard. he used it with csn too.
I have a Texan. Its a great guitar for the money.
One of the latest versions? Or an original
I have a 1966 version. Unfortunately, a girlfriend of a friend of mine, stepped on it and did a number on the sound hole.
Still feel this is the best sounding acoustic that I have owned.
So your saying the older/60's made Texans were made with laminated sides? I have a 1965 Texan FT79N and was under the impression that it was made with all the solid materials. Just clarifying... Thank you.
I bought the Frampton Texan... nice. All solid wood guitar
I thought that the Frampton model was U.S. built at about $2,500.00.
No..you daft pudding.
This is one of the best for the money! mojo workin on these.
The best for the money? An original Texan would cost A WHOLE LOTTA LOT!
Love that concept... though I do wish Epi made a quality version of the J45, too.

Jeremy Deats Thank you for the advice :) For the price sounded nice.
It only took 6 years but it has arrived!
Hey guys, by any chance someone can tell me how to set the battery position correctly? Because mine is hanging while I am using it
1 and 11/16th's nut? .....Still too narrow for me! Sounds good though.
holy fret buzz

Could you PLEASE start with strumming?
why?? no one strumms

I think they always used Martin D45s... Ridiculously expensive these days.
+The Paranoid Blues Man Correction... Turns out Graham Nash did use a Texan in the early days of CSN.

Nanoweb all the way! I use 11s for gig use, but love it when it's got those chunky 12s on it. Beautiful guitar
Nice guitar....but it sounded sloppy? ...idk weird sound
Dude, I was trying to listen to some guitar sounds but all I hear is mouth sounds.
Ingles para hoje - Filipe Teodoro he talked more than a girl
My Takamine EF341 has laminated sides and back. My gibson J160 J.L is Laminated sides and back plus a plywood top. Regret buying that one.
which one has the clearest sound ? the hummingbird or the texan? I've also been looking at yamaha apx1000 or 700 II. Please comment all guitar players

Type of strings??
Made a cover of 'Yesterday' using this! Come check it out, it's an awesome guitar!
Joseph Jolly
great guitar - yesterday great tune. I'll check out your cover
there is a paul mccartney elitist which costs a good deal more.
La mía está hecha de árbol de Rosa Willie cuadrada en el lomo y es del año 54
I own one of these Epiphone FT79 and I noticed a total lack of bass tones!!

this one or taylor 110e ?
Icaro Moreira The Texan every day!

they now have a $300 "Masterbuilt" label, it's the same $400 guitar they're now selling for $700, SMH
Charles Patrick the inspired by 1964 model only has a solid mahagony back and the masterbilt model has solid mahagony back and sides
4:40 So much buzzing or maybe it's the playing.

2nd vid I've heard buzzing in, kind of concerned. Sounds really sweet otherwise.
thin sound not harmonics
Too much talking!!! Just let us listen this sound only!!!
Pure crap
