Happy Saturday to you too. keep an eye on your budget as YT is getting insane with their demands on presenters in the US. They're stopping the availability of adding links and other restrictions.
I think the Picard ready room style is an excellent idea. The soft panels on the walls can act as noise dampening. The desk is wood with a glass top (but a large mouse mat cut to size might also work well). LED strips, you already have that covered. What about the fish bowl? Or the sofa? I'm not sure the projector is going to work (too much ambient light). A OLED screen would work well. How often are you going to look up? I hope you show frequent progress videos, including removal of the current items, empty room and so on, until a final reveal of the new room :)
5:45 That's what she said! I'm surprised you're taking such a low-tech approach to your ceiling, Paul. A projection-mapped "space window" would work better, albeit the cost would be greater. "Next sponsor, please!"
This is perfect for what I've been looking for! I've been remodeling our granddaughters room, and she would absolutely love this! She loves everything about space and stars. Thanks for this review 😊
There are a couple of pictures that show slightly above the light strips that shows a few rows of a square tile pattern followed by beige walls, as you said there is obviously no actual ceiling in that set. Have you considered, rather than making a sky light, replicating the full height narrow window behind Picards desk? That would be an awesome feature to have.
Definitely! I plan to do it in landscape though and use a TV behind it to do the passing stars, that way I can use the TV for watching stuff when I have breakfast and lunch and switch it back to stars whilst I’m working 😁

A guy shouted "It's Riker and Picard" as we walked into a bar and bought us drinks! Now you have mentioned the Star Trek themed room, you must do it. Haha, brilliant! For the view window I’m thinking of doing it in landscape instead of portrait and using a TV, that way I’ll have something to watch telly on at lunch!
Hey, I watch your Videos mostly because you are pretty funny and to see what’s on the market. For me, the products themselves are mostly way to expensive for what they are doing. Will it not work with the battery’s removed and the usb plugged in providing power ? But I guess if you did then cut power with a smart plug you might have to press the button to turn it on, the power being restored wouldn’t be enough…. My daughter had a similar thing many years ago, was pretty cool and I remember secretly wanting one for myself haha. Rather than a static image that rotates I think I would be really cool to use an actual tv type image projector and have space flying past as on star trek but that would cost more than £90...
I kept thinking about that, but the film that these things project off usually have a very fine resolution that even a 4k projector can't match, not to mention that these projectors only uses a 5w or 10w (there's one at 20) LED bulb so they're way cheaper to operate than a real projector.
We do see the ceiling of Janeway’s ready room and is just one big glowing panel, and with the ceiling of the Enterprise’s bridge being glowing panels with ribs, imagine it’s the same. So a virtual skylight sounds more interesting. Going to see if you can get a big fish in a small spherical tank?
I wonder if this could be modded to have more brightness, maybe by just sticking an eye searingly bright led light in there? But also, of man would an oled tv in the ceiling look absolutely amazing.
So the thing that make me go hmmmm about this if why not wifi it and have images from the cloud. Or better still in vent a remote telescope for real world viewing?
I've been looking for/at things like this for years. I really want to do something along these lines on the ceiling of my man cave/home theater room. Which is also workshop, office, den and IT room. I don't care if the image is washed out or even non-visible during bright light conditions. I have some very bright lights in here (just a quick glance around the room I count 19 light fixtures of various sorts including 4 ceiling cans with 300 watt equivalent LEDs) so expecting anything like this to show up during "lights on" mode would be unreasonable. However, as a fellow Trekkie and all around science fiction fan a lot of the movies and TV I watch in that room are outer space themed. It would be great to have a "window" like Paul is contemplating but he didn't really give me a good idea of how this thing would look in my situation. Depending on how the battery is intergrated in this thing, I can see rewiring it to either take 5 minutes (simply pop the battery out and solder 2 wires from the type-c port to the battery terminals) or be a MASSIVE ball-ache involving removing industrial strength glue and trying to adjust the current/voltage in the space of a tiny battery compartment. The other option is some kind of 3d-printed mount that can hold a SwitchBot in such a way that it can press the button (you might have to glue something more precise to its finger though)

You've earned a load more respect points for being a Trekkie and the elephant in the room thanks you. However, having an elephant in the room like you and I do, they have a tenancy to get in the way of the projector! The major problem with this device is that most people are going to have it at the edge of a room because rooms generally don't have power sockets in the middle of the floor! You need something able to change the focus depending on the angle, like say a close wall laser projector does, or the majority of your image is going to be out of focus. Also, this kind of feels like the old "printer syndrome" where they can still the device at a loss and make a killing based on the projectable images. Also, 60m really? Children don't go to sleep in 15/30/60mins... 120/180 mins and you might be about right on the money!
I guess the price goes up considerably once you go down the route of changing the focus of the projector based on its given angle, but yeah, it really needs smart home support so you could set timers using routines

@@paulhibbertYou wouldn't steal them as that would be wrong. You will let them inspire your ideas instead. 😊
@connclissmann6514 but of course! 😉
Good review, as always. Although I would never doubt the Enterprise's capabilities, I personally would have preferred a stars, planets etc. hurtling past window effect, but starship captains can't be choosers.
Mount it ABOVE in the false ceiling to project down !
I'm already looking forward to Yamoto Churmpupe being finished.
Did you post this last week? Sure I've already watched it!
Nope, it's new. You just time slipped back from next week.
Hey Hibert, i likes this video, and i hope a lot more People Will see it 😂😅😊🎉
Thankyoooooo
How about projector screen material on the ceiling to brighten up the image..?
Switchbot Bot? That could press the on / off button right?
This is good thinking that I should have done before pressing submit on this video! 😂
@@paulhibbert to be fair, you are excited about having the Star Trek deck... I wouldn't be doing much critical thinking either 😂
For just a little more, the Dark Skys FX projector is much higher in quality, especially the discs that they produce. If you're into astronomy and wanted a night sky that is accurate, you only have the Sega HomeStar and the Dark Skys projectors to consider.
🖖 Let's go!!!
Would you do a tear down? I want to see how it works
Having an argument with a mate of mine... I needed a paul Hibbert gif of it just works.
Got to say I'm disappointed in the internet for not designing already
Please resolve for me Paul with more of this
make it yourself ya lazy bugger :D
Where did the pictures on your walls come from?
I am sure this is just the opening to a rabbit hole.
Great video. Please let wifey do all the unboxings, she could be a hand model. Also the random American-ish RUclips Reviewer character is pretty awesome. 🙂
From now on all videos will be presented by the American, and all unboxings shall be done by my hand model wife! 😂
@paulhibbert Can't you stick that switchbot button switch robot thingie on there to automate it?
What is the color changing cloud lamp? My wife wants one.
That's a switch bot hub
Are going to review the Xgimi Horizon Ultra anytime soon? Your review of the Pro persuaded me to buy it!
Go Go Mrs Hibbert (tribal dancing)
Not really a fan of Star Trek but that would be a pretty cool setup.
would switchbot enable you to remotely press the buttions?
You need to resign. That kiss was totally inappropriate. We stand with the Spanish women's football team.
🤣🤣🤣
Glad you got the reference !😅
It took me a minute !
he had us in the first half. not gonna lie.
@-RealPaulHibbert because I'll totally trust someone called "realpaulhibbert"
The Product of the Video with an infinity mirror with some smart home information in the mirror?
I want a star trek LCARS screen with that kind of info it it! That would be awesome!!
I wonder if there is a way to have switchbot turn it on and off
this looks cool, but wow, what a price. For the price of this and a disc pack I could buy a really nice 1080p projector with keystone correction to shine on the ceiling with better contrast in low light... hmmm... it's a skip for me. aliexpress "TD98 Projector" is in the same price bracket... surely that would also be better for a fake skylight as well?
I unfortunately have a hideous ceiling fan in every room of my house. Time to get the crowbar i guess
This is an engagement comment !!!!!!
Get them to send me one and I'll convert it for use in Home Assistant. 💯
YES PLEASE - @3ative will put a d1 mini in it :)
@@homeauto9099 LMAO... I'm always looking for the next: "What Can I Put a D1 Mini in Next" Project! 💖
Now this would be awesome!!
Just watched your video doing this with another projector. Absolutely amazing work! You got skills dude! Liked and subscribed ❤️
@@paulhibbertThe 'Process' has been initialised 😉
What's the 5tb colour you said black two-tone blue and pink silver and white
Amazon says can't deliver to my location. I live in the UK 🤔
Bizarre eh?! Someone else pointed this out. I’ve messaged Pococo
It needs a batman signal :)
Wait! Did Paul just imply that he was going to DIY this for smart home use?
How is that possible when he claims to not be handy?
"It's...not a real advert" (BUT IT SHOULD BE!)
I shall make it so!
