Synopsis: After a gentle alien becomes stranded on Earth, the being is discovered and befriended by a young boy named Elliott (Henry Thomas). Bringing the extraterrestrial into his suburban California house, Elliott introduces E.T., as the alien is dubbed, to his brother and his little sister, Gertie (Drew Barrymore), and the children decide to keep its existence a secret. Soon, however, E.T. falls ill, resulting in government intervention and a dire situation for both Elliott and the alien.

Being a kid in the 1980s was a true gift in my life. I remember seeing ET with my Mom and little brother. Both of them are gone now. So happy I have that memory.

I was eight years old when this came out. I remember after watching the movie while on the drive home, in the backseat of my moms car, there was a full moon and I cried all the way home.

I saw this movie when it first came into theaters. I can't believe it was 40 years ago! 😧 But it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. A sensation to this day. So glad another generation gets to enjoy it. 👍❤️

I literally felt my heart stop and my stomach sink/tighten up thinking for a moment that this was a reboot. Hopefully they never reboot this classic gem of a film. Please do not ever taint it with this endless wave of reboots!

This was the first movie I saw in the theater. I was 6. My oldest is now 7 and I think she needs to experience it.
Also, I'm glad they got rid of the stupid walkie-talkies and put it back to the original. There is no need to sanitize ET. It is.perfect as is.
How come every time they re-release this movie, we always go buy a ticket to see it? I mean, I know it’s a Spielberg masterpiece, but still.

I saw this movie when it came out in theaters, I was 4 and seeing it is one of my earliest memories. I remember crying at the end, ET will forever live in my heart. ❤️

They've never printed that version again, all the new Blu-rays are the 1982 version restored, this will be as well.

I remembered when I was younger, I saw the 20th anniversary trailer. It scared me a bit and I enjoyed E.T. when the 30th anniversary came.
My God, even the trailer makes me cry. This movie is an experience.
They showed all the right bits in this trailer to make sure people knew this wasn't the crappy re-release with CG ET and shotgun removals.
Thought they do a directors uncut version with new extra footage!!

Watched it tonight imax, was brilliant, great music for sure. Everybody clapped at the end of movie. I was a kid of the 80s so I still have my ET soft toy. Yep I was crying in the cinema lol
E.T. was my number 1 Favorite Steven Spielberg Flim of all-time that amazing flying theme by amazing composer John Williams.

Why was I not moved by the movie ? Sure, it wasn't bad but...why was it not memorable ?
And before you ask any questions regarding my emotional capacity... Ever since I watched "AlegriA" from "Kagegurui", all I can imagine is a fanfic scenario in which a Godlike/Acid trip alien similar to Yumeko uses the E.T's connection to Elliot to turn him into an evolved human form considered beautiful and perfect, destroying the alien and his companions in the proccess, as they rejected their transformation the first time the Godlike beings visited their homeworld.
Oh ! And I love bittersweet endings.
Ok why don’t they do this for all the classics films. Like Citizen Kane etc.

An IMAX release is just lazy. I'll just stick to the Jaws 1 (1975) 3D re-release this September 2nd since Spielberg actually put work into this re-release.
