When I first started doing 5 km park runs, I was scared that I would get last. I was third to last but my husband kept encouraging me to go each week. In the five months of power walking them, I've lost 10 kg and getting so much fitter. A woman came up to me on Saturday to say that she uses me as a goal to catch up to when she's walking. I can now walk five kms in 41 minutes but still lots of weight loss to go. (Still just sitting on 100 kg). I'll never be a runner but I'm proud of the gains I've made just walking.
@@jasonh7554 I'm too scared to try. I've just turned 60 and never been a runner. I did a PB last week of 39.52 and have finally dipped below 100kgs. Might try running for a few metres to build up.
Reminds me of what happened on my very first marathon back in the 1980s. Went through the half-way mark in exactly 1:18:00 expecting to finish well inside 2:40, maybe even 2:35 if things went okay. But they didn't! Totally hit the wall before 14 miles due to a crazy cycle I'd done the day before (yes, I knew little about preparation back in the day) and got migraine flashing lights making it difficult to see. I walked the entire 12 miles to the finish being constantly passed by runners for almost three hours! Crossed the line in just over 4:15.
Happened to me on my 100 mile race other day. Usually don’t have issues but this time I was just so stressed about school. Dropped 4 places and finished many hours later! Those days are toughest. Good job finishing. It’s disheartening but makes you better!
I tried to calculate what my time per mile is, as I am timing in min/km. My PR on the 4 mile is now 24:45min, so that’s 6:11 min/mile. 6 min/mile is very fast. My last marathon I had to walk at the half marathon mark. At that point I was running around a finishtime of 3:30 hours. But I got corona 1,5 month prior the marathon, right when you have to do the longest runs in preparation. And it was also 25 degrees Celsius that day, so it was very warm. As soon as I started walking I knew I made a mistake, as the heat fell as a blanket on me. I had 6 hours to finish the race, so my goal was to finish. I got passed by a lot of runners, but also a lot of other people where walking. I ran whenever I could. With 10km to go the sun was flashing in my eyes via the water and I was thinking: If I walk the rest of the race it will still take me at least 2 hours in this heat. Am I going to finish? I managed to run whenever I could and at the finishline I was 28 seconds under 4 hours. They came to me with a wheelchair and drove me straight to the EHBO. They measured my temperature and they said I almost had a heatstroke. They gave me an infuse. A novelty for me. Next year I will run my third marathon.
Dude, at least act like you have a stitch and not just be a guy holding a selfie stick. For some of those people at the back, it's a huge accomplishment to get to the end.
I once bonked really bad in race and walked the second half of the race. I wa still ahead of 30% runners. It's crazy to finish that behind if you are a proper runner.
Over 40 years ago, in my first 10K race (also in Austin), I got last place without trying for it. After the first quarter mile, I was in dead last, and I continued in last place for virtually the entire race. Mid-race, I passed one woman who had stopped running and started walking. After a couple of minutes, she ran past me and I never saw her again. But I RAN the ENTIRE distance. No walking, no stopping. I ran other 5 and 10 K races, but never had such a bad finish again.
I’m running my first race on Thanksgiving (a 4 mile run) and could really use you there so I won’t be last plac 😅. My perfectionist side doesn’t want me to get last place but I know I have to try to push that side away. One of my doctors has been helping me on my couch to 5k journey (she recommended it and does them herself). She told me that she came in last place at a race a couple of months ago and it was helpful for me. My main goal is to participate and (hopefully) finish the race, even if I do end up coming last or toward last. If it does happen, I might be a bit discouraged and feel bad as I have anxiety and depression. Either way, I get a cute shirt to commemorate the occasion and my dad is walking the race too. I will be attempting a run/walk combo.
@@legrandliseurtri7495 I finished the race in just under 51 minutes (ended up walking the finish area as I didn’t notice the clocks at first so I probably could have shaved a few more seconds off). There was one hill early on and I jogged a small bit of it but had to walk most of it as I haven’t done much hill training yet. I got 350th place out of 384. I also found out just how inaccurate my wrist tracker is at distance which is actually a relief because I thought it was going to take me longer to finish based on my run/walk workout last Sunday.
I ran a 10 miles once at 15 min mile pace & came last. I was so overweight that was the fastest could run but I didnt walk hardly ar all. First & last in a race get the most kudos & I highly recommend coming last.
I'm going to do this someday. Haha. I have a half marathon coming up. I always beat the 5k start. So, maybe I'll do the 5k afterwards and come in dead last.
I am curious you are behind rebecca, normally the clock should start running if you pass the starting line, and she should have starte way behind you. Also you are disqualifed because you left the track at the start.
@@Iris-ie8nv Well I ran a 5k with no preparation, and I ran a 21:50 Im pretty athletic, but I think the most important thing is your mindset. If you push yourself not to stop for the entire race, I guarantee you can run a decently fast time. Try to run a pace faster than you think you can so you push yourself and don't feel comfortable. This ensures that you are using all your energy in the 5k making you run a much faster time.
People will look at Tyler walking in a 5K wearing to most try-hard running fit and find him weird. (Edit: I made that comment before watching the video and he mentions it).
I still can't believe the ending 🥵
real
yooo i have the same watch haha (really)
I found the falphaflys online 😂😂

"I'll never be a runner" don't say that, you never know!
Trust me you will be a runner. It will happen naturally. Just keep going to the 5k events

video idea - get last place halfway through the race , but then try to catch up as much as you can.

I cracked up when Rebecca said “No, that’s MY goal!” Maybe she should have a youtube channel
What you should do if you plan to repeat that, is walk the WHOLE thing. But also, start in the back just to see who is the slowest individual .
That old guy was super wholesome. Giod video!
lol that ending had me cracking up
Are we just going to ignore the Darth Vader cosplay that was passing him that dude and a whole light saber

3:47 Darth Vader goes hard
You broke the rule: keep moving forward. At 6:42 you stopped😆
Nice job, it is really hard to work your way up to the back of the pack when you have that big of a lead at the start
Yeah walking slow is quite hard 😂
haha this was funnier than I expected :D
I probably was near last but just because my time chip was faulty! Over 10 hours for a 10k, how is that possible? 😅
Love that old cheap Garmin watch? Add to that competitive vibe
Never knew a topic as uninteresting as this can be so engaging, like idk why I watched the whole thing lol

Do u have only 1 leg?
dont know if my ego could handle that, great video!
3:48 bro it is Vader in the back

I can't believe you were slower than the lady that kept stopping to take pics
Anyone gonna talk how Darth Vader passed him 3:48
Did someone saw that Darth Vader?
Not earth Vader behind him when he’s talking abt his glasses
