My husband came in 2nd in this race! (I came in 7th overall) We initially thought there had been some chip mistake seeing your start/finish times 😂 glad to come across this video and get some sort of explanation! Hope to see you at another local Bigfoot race 😊
@@RurbanWalker Yeah, I absolutely thought see same. In every 10k race around here the best finishers break 35 min. I've even seen 32 min on a local race. Without breaking 40 mins you wouldn't even be under the top 10 or 15.
I’m glad you told us you were starting in last place and trying to finish first at least 7 times cuz I was still confused after the 6th time and reading the title of the vid
yeah....its fake....i found that company on facebook. I checked every race in the last year. i found one one race at that location on the 28 of jan. Time traveler (matching his bib) also matching the location. even the position of the bins and stuff so its had to be that race. Guy in red shirt won but won the half marathon and cosidering that they had bib numbers in the same category (winner was 3183 and he was 3142) not only was it not a 10k he didnt win? there where red bibs which was probably the actual 10km. He also was not listed as one of that companies 1st place finishers. The winner also had the exact race number and clothing on down to the shades. weather matched exactly. So yeah....Funny that there is no footage of him recieving 1st place hey....
That was kinda what I was thinking, I have never participated in a 10k where there were no people running around 35 minutes or quicker. Still to get 41 with that disadvantaged is very impressive.
Yeah that struck me as weird, like out of 250+ people, the next closest person was at least 42min, that's faster than i can do, but that's quite slow for a race with 200-300 people
If he hadn’t constantly nagged them about them being his only competition from keeping him getting first they probably would have stayed and he definitely wouldn’t have gotten first place.
This was a GREAT idea for a video, Tyler. Of course, there is a difference between chip time and clock time, but I'm guessing you were going for first place clock time AND chip time, which you did accomplish here. Congrats! Looking forward to more of your videos! I was wondering if you were going to get into a situation where you were the fastest chip time, but not the first finisher. Some races don't differentiate between chip time and clock time either; it's just clock time. If you ran this in 40:16, your chip time would be 40:16 and that would be your official time, but I can see your clock time is 41:26. For those wondering, clock time starts when the race starts/gun goes off. Chip time begins when you cross the start line. It has happened to me several times in a race where I outkicked someone at the end only to find out they officially beat me because their chip time was faster (they started farther back from the start line than I did). But it was never the difference between 1st and 2nd place in my case (i'm not that fast ;P) but I'm sure it does happen.
When it comes to most HS races, going from last to first will usually happen assuming you run a perfectly even, nonfluctuating pace throughout the race. In a 3200m race, I went from last to 4th with mostly even laps.
Sounds like it was a combined race where the more serious runners were doing the longer distance so the competition was much softer. I ran a half/10k earlier this year sponsored by a retirement home. I did the half, but all the runners started at the same time. The 10k generally had slower runners, but lots of them still passed me.
Great bit of fun, hope you got sponsored for everyone you passed! At my local races, even with a smaller fields you'd not make top 20 in most races. You'd need to be running at least 35mins to even have a chance! I don't run 10k road very often anymore but last time was 37mins and didn't even get first V45 finisher.
I did this once! I had trouble finding parking for a local 5k and started all the way in the back and there was over 2200 people. I ran on the grass alongside the path to pass the walkers and my time wasn’t the best, but I got there!
Man I would love to get back to even sub 20 right now, let alone nearly sub 40 after starting WAY behind, and you made 6 minute mile pace look EASY, mean while I was doing my 5x1k repeats at 6 minute mile pace and it felt like I was dying XD good job man!
Lol awesome. I did a marathon where the half merged in with the full in the second half somewhere, so there were people everywhere. I finished and we were standing around. Some guy asked me my time and I told him, and he was like dude you got a podium. I was like no. Wtf. There were hundreds of people in front of me. Sure enough I took 3rd. It made no sense. I couldn't tell what was going on with all the people.
I ran a combined half/10k earlier this year. At the finish line, everybody was given a receipt showing their place, both overall and age/gender, which I thought was really neat. Definitely helped limit the finish line confusion.
That’s crazy I remember being just a middle school kid trying to run the fastest mile I could. I was walking and jogging a good section of it but than I wanted to try to get an 6 minute one mile. I tried at least and I managed to do an 7:40 mile and I was amazed at the kids who could run in the 6 minute mile zone they were so fast. 😂I was so light headed at the end I’m pretty certain I wasn’t getting much air.
Geez i have won several races that are handicapped where you start last as backmarker and not only have competitors to pass but also time to make up. I ran 2:28 for marathon after starting off 70mins passing last person with 200m to go
