I used to breed mini horses. The foals will sleep hard after a few hours of being up. Being born is hard work on both Mom and baby. That baby is dry, so several hours old. No need to worry yet, too short of a clip. I would often watch Momma horses stand guard over their sleeping baby. It's precious.

May I ask probably the most stupid question, what makes her a mini horse and not a pony? She’s beautiful whatever she is.
It's 100% replying to you with it's body language. Every question, it beckons you with it's tail flicks. It's so cute to see how much animals actually speak to us with their bodies. This is how they talk.
It's not talking. It is feeling. It is not subhuman, it is subanimal.
If you really pay attention to animals body language and their facial expressions. Its almost like you can understand them. It's a very cool thing to experience. It's a lot clearer if you have bonded with the animal.

For those that don't understand! This baby is absolutely perfectly fine! It is very normal for them to lie completely still sometimes after birth because it takes a lot out of them energetically! He will be totally fine! So nobody worried about this little guy he's a perfectly healthy beautiful little newborn baby who just needs a few more moments to get up and realize that he's part of the world now! But the mama is so proud and so beautiful and trusting when they trust humans This Much by her behavior she is very proud and happy to show her newborn baby to her owner that she trusts very much!

For the record, I was very concerned that it was lying down and very still as well. Certain animals must stand within a few minutes of birth and start nursing (horses, cattle, deer) or the will likely die.

The foal is dry and clean, so hopefully it's been a while since he/she was born, and he/she is resting now after being active for a few hours. I won't lie, I'm a bit worried too.

@@wildflower1397 it's been at least a few hours since the birth, the mother has already cleaned it and most likely fed it and it's now sleeping. They will rest for hours a while after the birth.

Why are so many people obsessed with correcting her instead of noticing how still the baby is lying. Shouldn't he be standing up and learning to walk already. From an evolutionary perspective the baby should be learning to stand almost immediately in order to prevent predators from attacking it on grounds of being weak and vulnerable 🙁 wait. Is he even BREATHING?????

you wanna know what does explain it? Nobody is born breathing. Animals especially take a longer time to jumpstart to life than us. It’s possible the animal is okay but just still.

The first obvious is that it isn't standing. The position also isn't normal. No chest/stomach raising. The ears aren't even twitching, which there should have been slight movement when the mother was close to its head and breathing on them, at the very least. I am doubtful it's alive. There also appears to be no placenta, but it's also extremely clean? So is the mare. Things definitely don't add up correctly.

For all we know the foal was born hours ago. It has been cleaned and fed, might have tottered around mom to find food again and now has collapsed into the sleep of newborn innocence. The mare isn't acting worried at all. You have to remember that birth is enormously strenuous for foals. They are born tired. I don't know about anyone else but, having been around horses forever, her low nickering is not worried. It is kind of like so many moms just want to warn you that baby is real tired and sleepy. Hush up and admire my work! I hope we see more videos of this family.

I remember, when we were younger. My sister's horse had a baby. And she helped bring her in to this world. And she was a beautiful baby filly!!!

Is it alive? I couldn’t find a follow up video to find out. Following up, yes, I found the follow up video and it’s okay. In the follow up it was sleeping and when she approached it, it stood straight up on all fours. Whew!!

She REALLY, REALLY trusts you to let you get that close with her new foal. Even then many mares won’t let you get close.
She desperately needs help with her newborn foal.
The healthy newborn foal should stand up and try to walk.
The newborn foal or calf that lies motionless like that is not a good sign.

I just posted about this that mare is already showing body language that she really didn’t want her near the foal , if you watch the mother positioned herself between the human and her baby and seemed agitated the closer she got , I think the foals ok it looks like it’s resting ….
@@CL-mp4vn Maybe that’s the only reason she let them close. 😕I thought they were supposed to be born walking too (after a few minutes of wobbling to their feet), but didn’t want to put my foot in my mouth. Likewise hope it’s OK.

I’m sure it was moving, then laid down to take a nap! Foals sleep a LOT, all stretched out on the ground. This little guy was probably born hours ago, mom cleaned and licked him dry, he stood up for a feed, then fell asleep with a full belly! ❤
