What tungsten do YOU all prefer for AC (aluminum) welding and how do you sharpen your tip?

I use a cordless drill and a belt sander with 400 grit belt to sharpen.

@@cowcatcher9186 yeah I was using an angle grinder and it works but this tungsten mate is so precise and fast!

My choice tungstens ordered from fav to least fav. Ceriated, 2% lanth, rare earth mix.
100 grit diamond disc on an angle grinder.

I tend to TIG aluminum most of the day at work.
I find it very inconvenient changing Tungsten, and cup size depending on thickness. I weld up to 300 Amps sometime using an OLD Miller Syncrowave 250dx. Running 75% DCEN.
My usual setup is as follows,
CK 18 Rigid torch
Gas lens (not stubby)
Whatever collet iv got lol
#8 cup
5/32 (white) .8% Zirconiated Tungsten
Rounded pencil tip (60°?)
Will a lightly balled end.
5/32 seems large but Ive got plenty of control when welding .100"

Hey and thanks for sharing! I have found that purple (e3) works wonders on aluminum and also for steel. It balls beautifully and doesn’t get as beat up as the blue. LaZyr was decent as well for both and puts up with the abuse.

Thank you so much!! I really hope it does grow because my goal is to make videos that the pros won’t show. I want to show the mistakes and provide more information on why things do what they do with each small change. It might be nice to show others what acceptable welding is versus the Instagram pics that make people discouraged with their own work.

The pink is the one the lgbt community uses, it can't decide if its ac or dc, but it works best while wearing leather and lace, high heel and a beard !.. But will not tolerate ABUSE, as it claims to have been abused already, even if thats a lie. 👠💄💣💪

Sorry man, I got really sick and then moved. I never got set back up in welding since.
