    Thank you!! I am a combination knitter (a choice I made years ago to address rowing out), and brioche has been something on my back burner to "figure out" because I struggled with stitch mount issues, but could not seem to focus on it long enough to find the correct solution. As soon as you explained adjusting the yarn over to match the mount of the slipped stitch, it just clicked. I love your technical videos, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with the knitting universe.

    Almost 20yrs knitting, and this was one of the final "mysteries" I could never decipher. It's so hard to find tutorials for Continental/picking, let alone combined techniques. Thanks so much, now I feel confident tackling brioche again! (Lovely yarn & clear instructions as well :)

    I find it helpful to refer to the mounts of the stitches, so where you were struggling with "Normal" verses "Combination", instead saying "Western Mount" and "Eastern Mount" may be more clear and doesn't default one way as normal. Western Mount the leading leg is on the fore of the needle and Eastern Mount the leading leg is on the rear of the needle. Combination knitting uses both mounts, Western and Eastern knitting use only one or the other. At any rate, thank you for this. There's a lot of geometry to wrap your head around with combination brioche and having a guide and demo is incredibly helpful.

    Thank you for showing combination knitted brioche! ... Mom taught me combination knitting, and I always have to figure out how to translate other types to combination. I've tried learning the other types, but they just feel weird in my hands and can never manage to stick to it. I appreciate that in your videos you always cover more than one way to do things.

    Apparently even in combination knitting I yo wrong. 😂 My knit stitches are eastern mount and my purl stitches are western mount which seems to be opposite of what you and everyone else describes with combination knitting. No wonder I'm struggling so hard with brioche.
    Having the yarn over match the mount of the stitch being slipped should help when I attempt this again. A previous tutorial that assumed western mount told me to always yarn over as if to purl and somehow my yarnovers (which were Eastern mount? But that's not how I purl lol) would end up twisted compared to my western mount purled-in-the-previous-row stitches. (This was for one-color brioche.)
    Edit: I learned some new words and keep finding typos.

    Thank you for this great video. Could you explain how to do the set up rows when doing combination knitting? Do I do it the regular non-combination way? Thanks

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  6 лет назад

      Tell me which king of cast on you are using for the beginning and whether you are using one or two colors for the cast on and I can tell you how to work the set up rows. Thanks.

      @@SuzanneBryan thanks Suzanne! I'm doing Italian cast on with 2 colour brioche. I'm following Nancy Marchant's book instructions.

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  6 лет назад +1

      Once you have the Italian CO going, you can proceed from there with the reverse stitch mount, being mindful that you will have to go through the fronts of the stitches from the CO, but once you get to the subsequent rows you should be fine with the reverse stitch mount and working through the back loops of the stitches. Does this answer your questions?

    I have never seen a Purl done this way. I am a Continental Knitter but the yarn is grabbed differently. Like the one you took out after you questioned whether you did it correctly. That is the way I Purl. . Definitely something foreign to me. And I’ve been knitting for years. Is Tigerettes a reason fir it or is it just your style ?

      Combination Knitting is a style of knitting. In Combination knitting, the purls are picked up clockwise and then when you encounter them again on the next row, you work through the back to compensate and not create a twisted stitch. Thank you or watching and commenting. I am going to make a video on Western, Eastern and Combination knitting to explain the differences.

      Knitting with Suzanne Bryan i have been watching your continental knitting but also this combination knitting i find very interesting and I'm going to try this to just to show off that i can do knitting in different ways. My family is Italian and my grandmothers and my mother and auntys knit with one needle under therir arm only moving the working needle which i find very difficult
