The thing I love about hockey players is their classiness. The moment someone gets seriously injured like that, even the opposing team stops and puts their hands up to stop play and get a trainer out.

I was 12 when Pronger got hit with that slapshot and watching him collapse brought me to tears, but the Staal injury is by far the scariest thing I've watched on live television. Watching that man flail about like that was absolutely horrifying.
Watching in 2013, that's when I knew Pittsburgh stood no chance. No team can't be inspired by one of your own fracturing a bone in their leg and STILL doing their job very well.

I played hockey for years. I actually felt safer playing goalie than I did when I was a forward. Because as a goalie you are at least expecting a puck to be fired at you. Still quite dangerous and many think even more dangerous than being a forward or defenseman but in my opinion it was safer in goal
I wouldn't wait to get chirped id just cage right away. Goalies wear them for a reason...this is exact reason lol so why not the rest of them. Makes no sense to risk themselves like this for no reason. Just ask yourself...why not remove masks from goalies and just give them a visor and listen to the answers. They will be the same answers for the argument for the rest of the players to wear cages.
Best thing about slapshot injuries is that no matter who sends em, and no matter who gets hit by em, both benches do their part to get first aid out on the ice and make sure the injured dude is okay. Respect 🤘🏻
I’ve been hit square in the back with a 94-95 mph fastball and that hurt horribly and left a welt for weeks. The reason I’m saying this is because I cannot imagine and don’t want to imagine getting hit with that way more dense puck. Plus slapshots are pretty consistently well above the speed of an average mlb fastball

Dan Girardi in my opinion was the single most underrated defenseman in NHL history. Great player, tough as nails. Unfortunately i think this puck to the face had a lot to do with his retirement.... not that he had a whole lotta time left anyways. He was already at the end of his awesome career.
I'm not 100 percent sure but I think it's mandatory for NHL players to wear visors, people who are injured are allowed to wear cages, not quite sure but I think that's why.
I remember seeing Patrick Eaves take that slap shot to the head and it was terrifying. I watched that game live and it's never fun to see somebody get injured that badly.

This may seem like a silly question, but why don't they use the full face wire cages? There's far more protection. I played ringette for 12 years, and know for a fact that they don't interfere with vision in able ground shaking way, especially since the ones used for ringette use tighter grids than the square ones for hockey. It takes about 5 seconds for your vision to adjust. Not to mention, they allow you to take a high speed projectile to the face without injury. As defence, I took plenty of shots to the face, and the most I had to deal with was some ice in my face.

The one that Yzerman took in the face from a deflected Mathieu Schnieder slap shot is pretty brutal, too. As a guy who was hit in the face by a puck just being dumped to clear the zone (9 stitches, my cornea was pure red, whole side of my face was swollen and parts of it went numb for awhile) I can't imagine how bad an nhl slap shot to face would suck.
Maybe they should design pucks with a very slight rounded edge right around on both sides to avoid these types of injuries. Having played industrial hockey for 30 years, I've taken my share of slap shots...man did they hurt!
Wouldn't do much, and the puck would probably be even harder to control, making it fly into players more often. The reason the pucks can hurt players is because they are 6 ounces of galvanized rubber flying at 90 miles per hour, not because of the edge.
It’s a man’s sport. I had two concussions, left shoulder dislocated twice, two teeth knocked out, right kneecap dislocated twice and my left eyelid sliced by a stick (before the era of face shields)-and I only played smalltime high school, college club and adult amateur hockey!

It’s a man’s sport. I had two concussions, left shoulder dislocated twice, two teeth knocked out, right kneecap dislocated twice and my left eyelid sliced by a stick (before the era of face shields)-and I only played smalltime high school, college club and adult amateur hockey!
