She does not recognize she does not have a majority either in the Scottish Assembly or in the country as a whole! in the last election the SNP only polled 29% maximum of voters on a less than 75% turnout. If we assume that those who did not vote were unionist by nature then that 29% would be reduced to only 20% of the total number of those eligible to vote ! Sturgeon has not the arithmetic competence to realize that she has no chance of independence untill that figure has risen to over 50% of the whole! THAT WOULD BE THE DEMOCRATIC WILL OF THE PEOPLE and not just the desire of a very biased party!

Sturgeon has just indicated she does not accept the situation that she has no chance of getting the chance of holding a second referendum without the leave of Westminster! She does not recognize she does not have a majority either in the Scottish Assembly or in the country as a whole! in the last election the SNP only polled 29% maximum of voters on a less than 75% turnout. If we assume that those who did not vote were unionist by nature then that 29% would be reduced to only 20% of the total number of those eligible to vote ! Sturgeon has not the arithmetic competence to realize that she has no chance of independence untill that figure has risen to over 50% of the whole! THAT WOULD BE THE DEMOCRATIC WILL OF THE PEOPLE and not just the desire of a very biased party!

It grants every nation, people group to have their own referendums but also asks countries to respect existing boundaries. If Scotland held a referendum on its own, its future would depend on how many countries it can gain support from to recognize. That battle would be easier if UK itself recognized Scotland as independent.

I don't think the SNP realise they are only limited by a devolution bill with no power to call for referendums. They are middle managers with no army. Need to get on with providing Scots with basic necessities.
So will the SNP stand on a single issue ticket of wanting a referendum and offer no other policies? (Some would say they already do). Only in this circumstance could they argue that if they achieved over 50% of the vote it was solely due to their aim of Scottish independence. Any other policies would void this claim and not make it a "de-facto referendum"
Also, by definition, a "de-facto" referendum holds no legal weight. It holds as much weight as an opinion poll.
