This is one of THE BEST beginner videos I’ve watched (and I seem to watching them all!!!)! You go through just about everything I can think about. Thank you so much for putting this together!!!! Rock on!!!
My 8 yrs old granddaughter is autistic, she likes art. I introduced her to rock painting. Just wash the rock put acrylic paint and that was all I knew. From differents art she tried seems to be interested in rock painting, which I support her in her arts and science projects. Thank you so very much for your time in explaining all about the materials and the ways to used them. Now I understand a lot. I really appreciate 😌 Have a wonderful day.
Yvw … thank you for watching… you can make your own molds, it’s in the second video I made, so you have to go down my list of videos quiet a while… the video is called make your own rocks :)
I have been looking at rock art for ages today and I think you have covered it all. Thanks for am informative video and all the trouble you have taken to make it. ❤ And hugs from South Africa
Thank you for the wonderful video! Your work is beautiful and inspiring! My favorite were the watercolors and the pores that you did! Thank you again for the trouble you took to make the video to share.
You really covered so many types of materials for so many types of rock painting! And thank you for for providing so many links to all the different products in your show more section! Thank you💝
WOW!! This is the BEST tutorial on the internet (and Ive watched many hours of tutorials). You covered all the basics and more. Thank You for sharing!!
This was very very informative. I'm just starting out and I can't thank you enuf for all of your help. I hesitate to get on RUclips cause I don't know much about it. Cost etc. I will research and hope I can hook up with you later. EXCELLENT!!!
I love those 2 sizes of hearts using the gypsum. Do you have a tutorial on making them or can you write and explain how to do it? Thank you for this video. (May 2023)
Gorgeous work. Thank you for all the tips and help. I use the exact same varnish as your favourite but was wondering if you know if it's durable enough for hiding rocks outside? Tia x
Thank you very much, I’m glad you found it helpful... yes it is definitely durable for outside, I have a rock outside, not in too much sun for three years now and it didn’t even fade 💕
Wonderful tutorial! Thank you for your time. I was wondering if you spackle n gesso the front and back and what was the clear sealant you used, duraclear? Also, where did you get your turntable? TIA
Thank you, I’m glad liked it. I got my turntable from Dollarama in Ontario, Canada. I only sparkle and gesso the front of rough rocks only. If it’s a smooth rock I paint on it without any prepping at all. If I want the colours to pop, I could use gesso only. I did use Duraclear gloss varnish, it’s my favourite if I’m glossing the whole rock.
That's good to know bc I would been prepping for hours, 😂🤣one last question, I think, do you mind if if I ask where you got the gesso and the decoart duracoat varnish, besides Amazon bc their arrivals are in late May. Here in NC, all the paint shelves are empty... you'd think it was toilet paper or hand sanitizer., lol. Again your help is really valued to me and I get lost in your videos. New subscriber here so if you have other media, please let me know. Thank you!
Thank you for following, I do have a Facebook page that I put videos on as well... thankfully I’m a paint hoarder so I haven’t had to go buy any supplies yet. I buy my paints and gesso from Michaels. I also buy paints from the Dollar store. I haven’t really bought any paint from Amazon, they’re on the expensive side here in Canada... be safe and I hope you can find paint to buy 💕
So complete! I want to start painting rocks in January (2021) and am getting stuff lined up. If I don't want the finished rock to be shiny, what would another sealant option be? Are the shiny ones best for paint color longevity?
I love anything that shines lol ... glossy is my favourite but you can definitely use a matt or a satin varnish, that way your rock will not be glossy. Duraclear has Matt and satin varnish as well
I'm a first timer. I would like to know the complete set of tools needed for water coloring on rocks. the basic requirements for both matte and glossy finish (all tools and paint). Thank you for the amazing video.
I’m sorry I don’t know the answer to that, I have allergies and I don’t use spray. You can try it on a small rock and see what happens. I seal my rocks first then I apply the decals. The vinyl used in my decals is glossy and it’s made of the same material as car decals and can survive outdoor for a very long time without being sealed. I know you can resin on top of it because I tried that once, but I haven’t tried anything else to seal it. If you do try it, I’d like to know please. Thank you for watching 💕
Hi, I bought every colour of paint the dollar store had, I also bought brushes, and parchment paper from there too. I like the dollar store paints, you never know which colour you will need on the next project!
Where can I buy the small circular templates from please ? Also do you have to use floetrol or is there a cheaper alternative? Thanks for sharing your lovely art xx
Thank you for your kind words... Floetrol is cheap in Canada so I didn’t try to find an alternative - sorry. I made my templates on my Cricut machine, but I did see many types on Amazon 💕
Decoart gloss brush on ... I have a rock outside for 3 years now, snow, rain, heat, and still looking good... do 3 layers, leave them to dry well in between and seal the back too. Hope that helps :)
@@RocktasticArts thank you. i have been doing rocks for the kids and they like to put them outside, but get upset when they spoil. thank you very much.
Hi is gesso better to prime rocks than white acrylic paint? I’ve never used gesso before. Also, what paint do you use to refill your posca pens, or do you just re-buy them?
Gesso is more chalky, so it’s a good base for other paints to stick to, you can also use white chalk paint... I’ve never filled my Posca’s, I have several brands of paints that were given to me to review... I know it doesn’t look like it in videos, but a brush paint person mostly, I use markers on video only, because that’s what people like more... thanks for watching
Great tutorial. Any idea where to buy santorini rocks in the UK? I have looked everywhere but can only find US suppliers which, with shipping + taxes make them prohibitively too expensive. Many thanks. X
Sorry I don’t know anywhere other than the States that sells Santorinis. I bought five rocks when I visited the States and made a mold of them, then I duplicated them so that anytime I want the shape of a Santorini rock I make one. Shipping to Canada is ridiculous too.
I have been watching some of your videos and I especially love the dotted sunset with the crucifix rock, it is very beautiful. I was wondering how you got your rocks so shiny. I tried using art resin which looks amazing, but I can't figure out how to use it so the bottom of the rock looks good too. I keep ending up with small shiny spots on the bottom even though I used a shiny silicone mat to let them dry on. I also tried doing the front first then doing the bottoms at a later time and even with the bare minimum art resin put on with a gloved finger, I still ended up with small drips/nubs along the sides and even shiny spots on the front -so frustrating! Let me know if you have found any better ways to use the art resin. I may have to try several coats of the gloss varnish and be done with it!
Thank you... I recently started using TriArt liquid glass, and it works so well, you can see it in my latest mandala video, it’s very similar to resin but it works a lot better IMO... no smell, cheaper, dries in minutes, doesn’t have the same problems as resin when you’re applying it to the rock... hope that helps
@@RocktasticArts Thank you! I did watch that video again. I missed it the first time, I thought you were using Dura clear, but I slowed the video down and saw the bottle said TriArt liquid glass. I will have to check that out!
I designed these words myself and I cut them on my cricut machine. I cut them out of shiny permanent vinyl, the back is already sticky. It is the same type of material car decals are made of. I made them available in my Etsy store because many people were asking. If you want some you can buy them in my store, search for Rocktastic Arts in Etsy. Sorry it won’t let me share the link in a comment

can i use clear nail paint as a sealant?
I have heard that some people use it, but I wouldn’t use it... nail polish is not permanent... I would use something more permanent

I’m so glad you liked it ... I like my rocks very glossy, so I usually put 2 coats on the back, and four coats on the front.
