    ***Correction*** when I said the z6 III would focus similarly to the "Zfc"...what I really meant...is it will focus similarly to the full frame ZF. Too many names, I confused myself with Sony a7C II and CR as those are both full frame.

      The Unforgivable Faux Pas of Jared Polin: The Z6 III Fiasco
      In the grand, illustrious history of photographic commentary, a dark cloud has recently overshadowed the community, casting a pall over the otherwise unblemished landscape. This cloud, dear readers, is none other than the scandalous, egregious, and utterly inexcusable error made by the famed Jared Polin of FroKnowsPhoto. This is a tale of confusion, cameras, and calamity.
      It all began on a day much like any other, with the sun shining and birds chirping, blissfully unaware of the catastrophe about to unfold. Jared Polin, a name synonymous with photographic wisdom and the sagely guidance of a modern-day Oracle of Delphi, committed an error so monumental, it shook the foundations of the photography world. During a discussion about the rumored Z6 III, Polin, in a moment of human frailty that we can only presume was caused by an alignment of the planets or perhaps a mischievous sprite in his camera bag, misspoke.
      He claimed, and I shudder to even write this, that the Z6 III would focus similarly to the "Zfc," when, in fact, he meant to say the full-frame ZF. The horror! The betrayal! The absolute chaos unleashed by this slip of the tongue! It’s as if Ansel Adams had confessed he preferred to shoot with a disposable camera, or if Henri Cartier-Bresson had admitted he didn't really understand what the "decisive moment" was.
      The community reeled. How could Polin, our North Star in the camera gear galaxy, the beacon of truth in a sea of megapixels and dynamic ranges, err so grievously? This was no mere slip; this was a slip on a banana peel, down a flight of stairs, into a pie factory. It was akin to mixing up Monet with Manet, Bach with Beethoven, or - dare I say - Nikon with Canon.
      But in a twist worthy of a Greek tragedy, Polin attempted to correct himself in the comments. Oh, the naivety! As if a mere correction could mend the fabric of reality torn asunder by such a blunder. The audacity to think that a few keystrokes could undo the unraveling of the very threads of photographic knowledge! It was as if he tried to patch a gaping hole in the Sistine Chapel's ceiling with a piece of duct tape. The deed was done, the words were spoken, and the echoes of this calamitous error would reverberate through the annals of camera history forever.

    The Z7 line has a big following among people who want medium format stills quality in a smaller and cheaper package than the Z8, especially landscape shooters who have to carry their gear long distances. The “slow” 10 fps would’ve been considered cutting edge performance only a few years ago, so you’re not even giving up that much in terms of real world use. Given most of us are not shooting the Olympics, I don’t really understand the fetish for ever more speed.

      The issue with the Z cameras below the Z8 does not lie with the frames per seconds they can shoot but how you can shoot. If you want them to shoot at full speed the EVF will show every single frame shot thus blocking the actual view on the subject with a slide show at the max shooting speed. This effectively makes them useless for shooting action.

    As a sport shooter with canon I am one of the holdouts that didnt buy the rf70-200 after moving to the R system with my setups. Only 1 of my fellow canon shooters in my industry has and she isnot exactly fond of it either. I will run my MKIII adapted til they release a internal focusing version. Extending lenses are hard to use in my specific industry as gear gets bumped all the time. I dont want to have to worry about a very expensive lens breaking because it got bumped. Also the vacuum thats created as you extend the lens is also a worry as those gaskets will need to be replaced constantly and as they break down more dust and moisture will get into the lens. With that said I am very happy Canon is finally listening to us as we are more than ready to purchase the all internal focusing version. Hoping they follow sony in making it lighter as well.

    Don't want any more 25 megapixel cameras. If I'm going to have a big expensive full frame sensor, I want at least 32 megapixels so I can zoom in to the most beautiful details and used it images extra large for my layouts.
    My old 5D3 had 22 megapixel. Nearly a decade later two more megapixel is not helping anything and it makes the camera feel like you just haven't gone far enough past AF.

    • @AndiGomez-yu2dx
      @AndiGomez-yu2dx Год назад

      then maybe you should consider buying a medium format. 25 megapixels are more than enough for the majority of people.

    • @simonmaduxx6777
      @simonmaduxx6777 Год назад

      @@AndiGomez-yu2dx here's why your answer doesn't make sense.
      One, my m62 has 32 megapixels. That's a crop camera.
      Two, you said it yourself. Most people. Most people doesn't mean anything. Your needs are what your needs are, anyone who says most people certainly don't have a clue what most people need. It's an easy way to just generalize information you don't know but you feel should be true..but it worthless, It's not data, that's just a lazy feeling or opinion.
      Three, which should be obvious, there are plenty of full-frame cameras that have more than 24 megapixels. At this point 24 megapixels is the bottom barrel for what full frame should be offering. Yes a camera and a sensor is more than that megapixels especially when you start thinking about Fuji sensors etc. But as far as Nikon and Canon goes anyway this is what they're selling as the generic entry point for full frame cameras.
      Lastly, just having the extra breathing room for those of us who use pixels directly for spreads layouts and designs, having that +900 megapixels worth of horizontal space is a big deal. Don't know what I'm talking about, 24 megapixel sensor is 6,000 pixels wide. A 32 is about 6900 pixels wide. It may not mean anything to you, but again when you're putting large images into large graphic design spreads, the actual pixel length matters.
      So again no offense but I see this most people comment all the time and it's always nonsense. Most people will use it because it's the least common denominator MP size for what vendors are selling. If vendors were selling 32 MP as the least common denominator, then 32 would be your answer.

    I think the Z7 line is not yet done - I could see them doing a Z7 III with a 60MP sensor but maybe the Expeed 6 design (so really just a resolution bump basically but no real speed increase, as that's what the Z8 is for -- both speed a resolution; wouldn't make sense to make higher-res camera that's just as fast as the Z8). So my guess is we will at least see a Z7 III but it will be priced at $3000-$3300 but only incraese the resolution to 60MP and perhaps have a crop for 8k video (or just be limited to something like 8k30). But the rumored specs for the Z6 III are about what I expected -- basically similar to the Zf, but perhaps a newer sensor but still around 24MP and improved AF, but otherwise retaining most of the other stuff the Z6 II has (CFE+SD card slots, overall shape/size, etc).
    I do have to agree on the Zf/Zfc ergonomics. I just picked up a second hand Z6 II for cheap (well $1100 in "good" condition) and would have spend the extra $900 on a Zf if the ergonomics was better, but even with the grip, it's not. (I should mention I have the Z8 so I don't really miss much by NOT getting a Z6 III --when it arrives-- or Zf). I mainly just wanted a low-light camera and really, $1100 for a used Z6 II wasn't bad. But I won't be buying a Zf, Z6 III or Z7 III myself as i don't need those having the Z8 and now a Z6 II (and a Z7 II). In fact, just took the Z6 II on a weeklong trip to FL for travel and works great. No missed shots (I wasn't shooting anything that required super fast AF but was able to work quickly and get a sharp shot each time - no missed focus, etc). So for the money, the Z6 II is still good, and the Z6 III should be better (but probably only a smidge better than the Zf in reality probably).

    I doubt we're done with the Z7 ii, it fits a great middle ground in Nikon's lineup as a Higher mp camera in a medium form body, I imagine that releasing a version iii just doesn't make much sense right now. Z6iii on the other hand, at 24mp, if the I/O is done well, has unlimited record limit and RAW video output, could be a cheaper, slower alternative to the R3. Though would be directly competing with the A7iv.

I had considered R6 II over my A7IV, but then Canon's glass (although very good) is inexplicably expensive for me. I certainly can do well with heterogeneous lenses. I have lenses from 17mm-150mm all f/2.8 or wider and it cost (only) $4,800 here in Canada, and it includes a 85mm prime. I can see the price of 28-70 & 70-150 going well over $11,000 here. The current Z6ii is Nikon's best selling full frame pro camera based on cost and 24mp is good enough for most shooters. The Z6iii will likely have the Expeed 7 which is said to be considering faster than the dual processors in z6ii current camera. Fully articulating screen will make this new camera popular for vloggers and content creators and some pro videographers. The AF of the VF is much more reliable than the current Z6ii for tracking subjects. Slightly bigger camera with better ergonomics. All this will make this camera the most popular pro camera from Nikon based on most pros needs, a good hybrid photo video camera, and less expensive than Z8, unless the pro wants 45mp then they'll get a Z8 (which there are less pros who need it).

      With a decent processor and programming - the stacked sensor's ability to read out faster has a knock-on effect. Data passes from the sensor to the focussing system quicker (and more frequently), so it can make AF decisions quicker.

Same with the Z7 family, it will miss some want, but not need right now performance specification, that will have pro buyers surfing up to the Z8/9 family for those "just in case" shooting scenarios.

    Knowing Nikon, they are certainly going to bungle the Z6 III. My guess is that the rumor about the 24mp sensor is true, maybe it's even a stacked sensor. Problem is, the Z6 III will compete directly against the Sony A7 IV, and for most people, 33mp vs 24mp is a much stronger selling point than 24mp stacked vs 24mp non-stacked.
    This is especially true if there's actually going to be a Z5 II, which is a bigger and bigger if imho. Z5 II would also require massively improved AF and a BSI sensor, or nobody would buy it. But if the Z5 II has adequate AF (i.e. much better than Z6 II, Z7 II), then the Z6 III would need more than a stacked sensor to set it apart, or Nikon couldn't justify its price tag of ~$2.500 next to the Z5 II.
    So my prediction is that Nikon will cancel the Z5 line, as well as the Z7 line. Or maybe, just maybe, Nikon is smart enough to give the Z6 III a 33mp (non-stacked) sensor. I doubt it though.

    • @froknowsphoto

      TBH I never owned one, and since I migrated to RF glass I have never thought about it (yet). As you mentioned, I probably would not be happy with a converter on a 70-200. Unfortunately, the other RF lens options are (way) too expensive right now. Personally, I would like to see a prime lens with a lower 4 digit price tag, like a 400 f4 or f5.6. I mostly carry the 70-200 f2.8 because the 100-500 is too slow in many cases (even outside in the shadows).

      I did a test shot with it on the ZFc and was still impressed how good it was. I didn't do it back to back with Tamron as ran out of light. I've used it on D7100 so I already know what it looks like on crop sensor and it's definitely not as good.
      The stabilization on the 70-200 @ 400mm was also orders of magnitude better than on the Tamron. Nikon's really doing some awesome work in the stabilization department.

      Nikon doesn't have an F/2 transtandard zoom, and Sony and Canon flagships have slightly better AF (but the difference there is imperceptible for most shooters).
      Personnally i shoot Nikon mainly because it is super cheap on the used market, and because i love their Z lens lineup (Especially the 1.8 S primes and the telephoto options). The Z mount also has the shortest flange distance and the widest mount of the market, so you can technically adapt absolutely any lens ever produced. Efficient E to Z AF adapters are already out there, and i expect we'll see RF to Z AF adapters sometime in the future.
      Switching for canon or sony would actually be a downgrade for you because canon's 85 1.2 is 600€ more expensive than nikon, and an R5 costs about the same as a Z8, while not being as good. And Sony would be cheaper than nikon, but they don't really have an equivalent to the Z8 (the A7RV costs the same, but is slower and higher res, with worse video, base iso and burst specs than the Z8), and their top of the line 85mm, while much cheaper than nikon's, is an F/1.4 and not 1.2, and probably not as good. But if you need 61MP (which most portrait shooters don't), it is probably a good choice.

For example AF calculations done at 120 times per second rather than being done at much slower rates of 20 or perhaps 30 times a second. And to further compound that to avoid rolling shutter distortion on non-stacked sensors you would need to use mechanical shutter - and while shutter is closed there is no light on the sensor, so this further affects the AF performance on non-stacked sensors. Of course you have the same problem using mechanical on a stacked sensor - but usually you would only do that for other reasons e.g. artificial lighting, flash etc.
