@@Departures1you can just about clock the old police station (6:07) - still in service at the time, which was a few doors down from the veterinarian surgery (6:06).
@@Departures1 we moved out around the same time. Most people started to move out of Newham circa 1990, and visits back were more for shopping purposes and cruising by to reminisce on the past. It started to get quite dangerous around the 1990s, although the 80s were no walk in the park during the height of racially motivated clashes and attacks.
All different now. My Uncle lives off Green Street/Katherine Road & my auntie use to live just off Bethnal Green Road near the then blue railway bridge.
It’s not that different. Just the shops are. But even then, the Iceland and Sainsbury’s in ilford remain untouched. seven kings and Ilford look 80% the same. Manor Park too. Stop spouting the same sh*t comments that plague this type of video (I have a feeling you weren’t even alive in 1990) also no one cares about your auntie

Forest Gate Police Station and McDonalds (a few hundred yards away) were still being built.
Thanks for catching that

@@MadGearGang it had its problems growing up but we have good memories and still go back. Post Olympics seems to be better
Man thanks for the video. You brought back some deep memeories brother of a time when life was good and simple.
I forgot I had these videos for about 30 years so they brought back memories for me too
Please upload the original longer version without speedup. Its interesting to see how these areas have changed
if you go in settings on bottom right you can slow down the playback speed
@@Departures1 its not the same experience the video frames distorts when played slow setting

Yes good nostalgia and historical record, thanks for watching

A shame you speeded it up. But thanks anyway.
Go in the playback settings bottom right and you can slow the speed. Original was 45 mins so people probably didnt want to sit thru all of that.
IL town
Yes Ilford
Why has this video been edited? It was better viewing experience beforehand
VHS tapes were too long. Was not sure how much interest there would be in these videos.
