My happiest memories of my childhood. Born in 1977 lived in Manor Park until 1983 then Goodmayes to 1985. Loved every minute of those times. I still visit from time to time even though not thr same. But will always cherish my roots from where I grew up and never forget where I lived
What is happening to our country will go down in history as the biggest crime ever committed against us. Politicians have sold us down the drain for nothing but greed. Absolutely tragic.
Born in Forest Gate in 1960 and lived in Stratford first half of my life, live in north derbyshire for nearly 40 yrs now, different world 2 how newham is nowdays
Thanks for sharing, and sorry for your PTSD. I remember many of those shops, and could smell the sawdust and meat in Dewhurst and the greasy spoon of Wimpey! Also the sour beer smell outside of pubs I was too young to go in. Those viewing through rose tinted glasses obviously forget the poverty, poor quality housing, lack of central heating, Government neglect and underfunded schools. Austerity is bringing a lot of that back if you are feeling nostalgic!
My life there, my family, my history. Sadly I still dona bit of work there. Not for much longer. It now represents a third world Country. We have to go into the social housing there.....!!!!!!!!!! If I told the stories of what we see, they would never allow me write it ! RIP London...! ....UK ....!
I'm from Essex, but all my family are from Manor Park. There all West Ham supporters as am I. Took my mum back there a few years back, (my parents lived in Whitta Road by the Station nr the co op Cemetery in a railway House) I don't judge people by skin colour, but we were dismayed at the complete displacement of true east end folk. Very sad. COYI.⚒
Does anyone remember the name of the toy shop on High Street South that had all the matchbox cars in the front window. My Dad used to take me there every Friday when he got paid and buy one for me...good memories.
U do a rally good job on RUclips keep up the great job on here am a big supporter of u do a rally good job on her I hop up got some more rally good videos on RUclips too wch on here
Every time you watch these type of videos,it proves you are not looking at the past through rose tinted glasses. The proof is there for all to see, regardless of how we are gaslighted to believe everything is better now.We all know there were many problems in the past, but at least the working classes could afford to live there,ad look at how much cleaner everywhere was,no litter,no fly tipping, and no fucking hideous tagged "street art"in any of these photo's.Oh for a time machine.
Some of these negative comments make me sad. Nowhere stays the same, people move on to different places and ways of life. I'm glad the I was born and grew up in East Ham, but I am also glad that I have moved around the country over the years and am now spending the end my time in the west country. I would not be the person I am now without the diversity that I have enjoyed throughout my life.
There was immigration then, from the 50s. Difference is, then it was from Commonwealth countries and immigrants were proud to become British. What's happened in the last 15+ years is nothing to do with the kids we grew up with at school in the 60 and 70s.
I'm 60, my sister is 71. Her infant/junior school was 48% coloured and Asian kids. There's a black and white (excuse the pun) documentary about it on here somewhere, Godwin rd school, forest gate.
Makes me sick to see how beautiful it was and how it is now.

@@Leonwhu73I moved to the north east. I really only get back for a bit of pie and mash occasionally.

Brought back so many memories, lovely video thank you. I was in born East Ham and grew up there 1957 to 1986ish
when east ham was a brilliant place to live utter toilet now
How sad it is that we have now lost all of them days. That supermarket took the words right out of my mouth……SAFEWAY.
Some lovely memories conjured by this, thank you.
I'm not from the east end, but a reminiscent journey through a typical town of the era. As you say, so much better then. Thank you.

Was that east ham indoor market?
Shopping Hall
Yes. And it's still there! The Sainsbury's is now a Tesco. The C& A is a Lidl. BHS became Primark.

Great comment mate.
Good for you,but maybe your opinion is formed by having the opportunity to get away ,and not being trapped in an area you see decaying by the day.
Life before immigration.
