The Purple rain solo on the record is actually a live recording he judged was good enough for the album version: his first take or draft was usually the one he would go with cause he was just that good. Its not raining heavily (yet!) in this clip but later on its pouring. When the organisers told him about upcoming rain during the performance he asked if there was any way to get it to rain more, for performance drama. Hes a legend and the Chuck Norris of music, unbeatable.
There's nothing that Prince did that Jimi Hendrix didn't do before or could not have done better. Prince was a very gifted practitioner of the guitar in the way that Hendrix played it. He was not an originator

Only took me 30+ times watching this to realize: The McClean Twins are actually mic'd and singing back-up vocals on the chorus - while dancing their tails off - in heels - during a rain shower. No wonder Prince had them as his main dancers for over a decade and traveled around the world with them on tour, but also showing up with them at clubs and parties! Love the pictures of them walking the red carpet with him - a sister on each arm!

Prince was at rehearsal at GH as well. Both Tom Petty and Dhani Harrison talked about how the rehearsal solo by Prince was even better. I cannot remember if it was recorded however. A rumour is that the soundboard captured it though. you're repeating things you've heard and not researched. no big deal really. jsut have to set this straight.

One only needs to look at the impact their music made on the generation of people who continue to play their music decades after the fact. When your music stands the test of time, you've accomplished something significant.

Heard they had trouble booking the next years act after this. Nobody wanted to follow God! Dave Grohl would go on to say he never wanted to play 'Best Of You' again, Prince's version was so much better.
I always knew prince was a very,very good guitarist..it was only after he got a little age on him and toned down the spilits, JUMPING off speakers that we really got to see just how great he was Billy ZZ tops guitarist said he always knew prince could play a guitar he seen him hold one and play some on stage but it wasn't until my guitar gently weeps that he realized how great he was ,and GREAT HE WAS BILLY SAID he ask prince to show him the beginning of when doves cry he said him and some more guitarist had tried to play it but could not ....lol he said prince showed him but he still never could get it ,Billy said it is one of the most complex arrangement he had heard
