    Isilon = servers.
    I know because we use them at our hospital in NSW.
    We use them for storage.
    We already moving towards a new solution for bigger storage, as we have hundreds and hundreds of gb of data that needs to be accessed every day 24x7.

    Ben those Isolon machines have these little chips or Sata memory like 2GB small one that Whys terminals use, If you see one of those plugged into the isolon motherboard save them, I sold 10 of those for $800.00 they are some type of special boot sata drive that is needed or the machines wont function properly, They are like gold nuggets if you find any. • @StuffJason437

    Nowadays, those hard drives are completely obsolete in data centres, as everyone moved over to Solid State nonvolatile memory express, that takes advantage of the PCI slot card, instead of the SATA or Scsi. Because, hard drives are so cheap even enterprise 1s many homelabs will have 'em and plenty of 'em but not data centre's.
    Those HP Proliant DL380p g7 2U actually sell pretty well online surprisingly in 2023, even those HP power supplies are cross-compatible with newer generations. If you find any blanks check as many sell decently well.
    You may see a server with 1TB of storage and think "Oh hey, that's not much today", but your forgetting that's 1TB of redundant storage that's capable of surviving drive failure's and continue onwards on the remaining drives due to it being a raid array. Servers are designed with redundancy and reliability in mind so storage capacity isn't important.

    Have you considered listing hard drives like those on local marketplaces after securely erasing them? Surely you can get at least a bit more than scrap value for them that way, assuming they don't contain anything sensitive.

    • @r0bo11
      @r0bo11 Год назад +2

      most likely costs more in electricity to parse and secure erase a 1TB drive than it's own scrap value. Takes anywhere between 2-8 hours for a DBAN DoD erase with multiple parses. Don't think Ben's got the time or electricity costs covered to do that. Victoria is one of the worst electricity suppliers in Australia when it comes to costs.

    • @billywithak341
      @billywithak341 Год назад

      Exactly what I was thinking, it’s super wasteful too because you’re scrapping something that often still has plenty of life

    • @billywithak341
      @billywithak341 Год назад

      Also just in general very often he scraps stuff that has significantly more value, not only fiscally but in application too. Those “smart cards” I’m pretty sure we’re ssds and those still have plenty of use and he just throws them in a pile where he probably gets a dollar for them (not sure scrap prices)

    • @jamescollins6085
      @jamescollins6085 Год назад

      @@r0bo11 Ah yeah, I didn't consider the electricity costs to properly erase the drive. Those onlder ones use quite a bit of power as well I believe.

    • @jamescollins6085
      @jamescollins6085 Год назад

      @@billywithak341 I believe those are SATA DOMs, and they do indeed have some value. It's all the extra work that comes with selling things that he doesn't have the time for I think.

    Coloca em uma embalagem com tampa e depois leva para ser reciclada corretamente.
