So important to let people like Josie express their genuine pain and frustration about the attacks on Corbyn and Labour. The hypocrisy of the Guardian claiming to care about Climate Change and yet doing their best to smear someone who might have made a difference is sickening. It's terrifying to think The Guardian doesn't know the difference between an actual existential threat like climate change and a smear campaign they took part in.

I completely agree. People certainly showed their true colours.
The supposedly progressive writers in the Guardian said nothing about their employers attacks on the Corbyn project and not only failed to call out the antisemitism BS, but were complicit in it.

A really entertaining exchange, thanks both I enjoyed it. Like Josie I am still processing the grief. I am one of those ageing retirees who was filled with a new energy 2015-2019. I can vividly remember the look on Jon Snow's face when Corbyn was elected as leader: the sneer, the rictus of disgust and fear. With an actual socialist leading the Labour Party, suddenly in contrast Snow wasn't the progressive liberal hip-cat he saw himself to be - and he knew it and really didn't like the process of being shown to himself. I was subsequently amazed by the display of mental and philosophical gymnastics he had to perform in order to regain his illusory position.

I think the right wing of the LP also really don’t like being beaten and they don’t like being wrong (even though they are often both beaten and wrong). They particularly didn’t like being beaten by someone so gentle while they are venal bullies by nature.
All of their arguments about why they couldn’t support Corbyn’s leadership were shown to be completely baseless; they couldn’t take that either.

It could be very well worthwhile that Alexei talks to someone from the Jewish Community and see why they weren't more vocal about antisemitism in the labour party.
Jews have constantly been calling out the right for antisemitism and the reason why it was a hot topic is because they did not expect to feel it from the left.
The non apologies of "I'm sorry you feel that there is antisemitism but there isn't " from corbyn was fairly disappointing.
Also the fan base of younger generations did not understand that socialism would need them to contribute for everyone to have a better life. They merely thought that things could be improved for impoverished people and their lives would be exactly the same or better.

You can't be a socialist and want to stay in the EU. The EU is a neoliberal institution by design, it is not a bug.
The reason JC was pro-Brexit was because he was a socialist. The reason middle-class activists were so against Brexit was because they are not socialists at heart; they do not hate neoliberalism as such, but hate the kind of neoliberalism that isn't working for them.
The reason JC lost that election was because there was a pact of class interests between the right of the party and the activist base which led to the ridiculous Brexit position Labour took. It wasn't the media, it wasn't an overwhelming bias - had Labour backed Brexit whole-heartedly and put forth a strong vision of a socialist future, there is no doubt in my mind they'd have won.
No amount of media bias and right-wing hate could have come close to the damage the activist base did to Corbyn's chances of winning that election. This is what the membership of the party really need to process and have a long hard think about.

How Josie expresses her feelings about the campaign against Corbyn is pretty similar to how I feel about the very similar attacks against Scottish independence with the same lies and vitriol and media complicity in 2014 and beyond. It's particularly upsetting to see people who are grassroots Labour support being unable to see how similar these fights were/are and being led into passionate defense of the UK establishment when that exact same establishment opposes everything they stand for. The way Corbyn and the independence referendum were treated has led me to believe that you cannot pretend to be on the left and support the continuation of the UK. It will never ever allow itself to be reformed and Scotland, Wales, NI and the north of England all need to abandon westminster. I look forward to a productive and friendly scandinavian style relationship with all our formerly British neighbours.

The Labour Party is dead isn't it? Because of what happened to Jeremy Corbyn we saw what the LP really is institutionally. The big problem with Corbyn is he came across as humorless and couldn't explain his ideas without being patronizing or a right wingers cliche of a left winger and was too easy to paint as a kind of Citizen smith figure.
Johnson gets away without having any political views, which one would think would be necessary for a politician, just with a clown persona. Indeed like Corbyn he had the whole of the conservative media against him as well as the conservative party who is a rare moment of judgement thought he was a charlatan. Yet despite this he knew how to play the lovable fool that the conservative party voters like and knew how to undermine the party itself.
This lack of self-awareness and understanding how to present yourself is ironically exactly the same problem Starmer has who seem oblivious he comes across like the cliche of the arrogant career politician who thinks the public are an career irritation on the road to the power they owe him.
Yet I think Starmer is a great think for the Left of the Labour party as he will be a failure and anyone on the left who can survive his Stalinist purges will have the political skill to win an election.
