  • The Alpha Antenna Company sent me a new hub for their alpha antenna 2-40 hextenna deluxe. This new hub is stronger, heavier, and has bolts holding it together. Watch to learn more about its performance and strength, when I'll put it to the test.

Dave, Since you did a review on the chameleon loop, why not doing a review on the Alpha Loop. It can take 100w ssb 40-10. Plus it has an 80m add-on loop. I know you did one about 6 years ago but there have been changes. Just a thought. Thanks for all. Bob WB6TIS

Nice antenna. But note it's currently $599. (3-2024) Thanks for a great review! K7KS

Holy crap. You should have used a 2foot pipe wrench on that loose connection! Sheesh!

But it’s still 3D printed, isn’t it? Probably not going to endure the sun and heat.

      Depends on the material used.

True to some extent. Do you think the hub is printed with high-end UV resistant resin. Or that is has been sprayed with a plastics-compatible UV sealer?
Most likely just a common black 3D resin like PLA.
That’s fine for intermittent use as a portable antenna, but certainly isn’t going to hold up outdoors, exposed to heat, freezing, and UV sunlight.
The only reasonable solution is a molded or cast resin rated for continuous outdoor exposure, temps, and wind stress. And the tooling cost for an injection mold is very expensive the last I knew 20 years ago. But who knows, maybe the Chinese do dirt cheap tool and die work now.

@@R50_J0 Ask the vendor. Best way to know.

It is ASA - "ASA is a tough and resilient material suitable for outdoor use and for making technical parts that is, thanks to its UV and temperature resistance (up to 93 °C - 203 °F)." Reference per all reputable sources.

@@alphaantenna That’s good stuff. Typically what plastic grilles on automobiles are injection molded from.
