Great video! Genetics can be difficult to talk about especially if there is no background to work from.
Tonkinese also works with albino and marten! This would be written as c^tc and c^tc^m, respectively. Tonkinese martens tend to be very saturated in color (morso than albino or himi based martens), it's quite lovely. To be clear, tonk does not put phaeomelanin back in, but it does seem to darken the martens considerably. I will try and find some good examples and send you pictures!

Devil/Marten kan be combined with the burmese gene and those babies are absolutely stunning.
Devil requires only itself, but in Denmark it most often have Himalaya and/or PEW in it, these does however not affect the rat visually
A black based Marten will at birth be very dark, where an agouti based will be a lot more silvery.
There is also a Russian variety that is even lighter than that but can be confused with the agouti based :)
It is tied to the C-loci as you said, meaning that if one parent is it(or caries) the other parent just has to carry any c-loci gene in order to have babies that are Devil :) i dont know if this also includes Tonk because we dont have those here currently

It is my preference (probably due to how showing works here in the UK) to keep those genes separated. Marten is lovely but I do prefer the agouti version (we call it silver agouti).

Thank you so much! LOVE learning about Rat genetics! Could you do a video on your understanding of rat genetics? :)

@@rozene9142 I have a playlist where all my videos are. I recommend watching those but to put it all into one video would be too much I think

I have a question. I’ve only owned rats for 3 years now but my oldest girl just went blind and there’s not a lot of information on the internet on how to help her.
Do you know what I can do for her? She just recovered from a lung infection and she is an older girly so she’s already weak and slow but now she went blind and I don’t know what I can do for her

I replied to this before, but my comment has disappeared randomly. Annoying. Anyway, I'll try to say what I said last night.
Rats can and do adapt to things like losing their vision pretty well. They also don't rely solely on thag to get around. They use their sense of smell and their whiskers so much more because their vision is quite poor. Keep the cage as similar as you can whilst she gets used to using those more. I will also say that from what you've said, it does seem like her quality of life may start to decline to the point euthanasia pretty soon. X

@@FaithfulRattos I was afraid of this when I got her because she’s a rescue. Her previous owner did her away for allegedly biting her son and she also told me she bought her from a pet store which I know is a red flag.
This morning I found her barely moving in the cage and she wouldn’t eat anything. I fed her some porridge and water with a syringe (idk if it’s the right translation but I got it to feed my other rat her medication after her surgery)
Now she’s laying on a warm bottle, I hope that with warmth and rest she will feel better and it seems to work because as I’m writing this she got up and crawled into my hand some more and that’s the most I’ve seen her move in a few hours
