Family reunites with missing dog Lucy after months

- Dana Calteaux said it is hard to capture in words what Lucy means to her and the family.
"We got her during COVID, and I lost my dad to COVID, and I stopped talking to everybody, and I only had that dog," Calteaux said.
The Calteauxs immediately hit the road to Charlotte to bring Lucy home, and said they are grateful for everyone who helped in her search over the last four months.
"We'll see you in about 12 hours, buddy!" Dana Calteaux said. "Oh, sweetie, you're going to get microchip, GPS. You don't even know what's gonna happen."
They were reunited with Lucy Wednesday morning. Needless to say, the tears of gratitude were flowing.

To lose your dog is hard enough but to have it happen on vacation and then have to return home without them is beyond awful. The grief is very real and your heart hurts.

Gosh, I instantly burst into tears when the family saw the 'Guests", with their dog Lucy. , and thanks to everyone who helped find Lucy. This story has brought happiness to thousands, maybe millions of people.

One stormy night in Cape Coral, Florida my husband and I had a small dog come up on our front porch. We heard her crying and brought her in right away. She was cold and wet. We wrapped her in a blanket and kept her nice and warm. She was so sweet. We knew some one was worried and missing her. She had her hair all matted so we bathed her the next morning. There was a phone number on her collar. We called and it was her veterinarian in New York. The family had been on vacation here 3 months ago. They had a 4 year old daughter who was devastated over the lost puppy. They were ecstatic. So were we!
I work for 811 in Charlotte I spread the message to everyone in our community the search never stopped. I’m so happy she’s home!!!

This needs to come with a tissue warning. Amazing work by the community and Tucker Search and Rescue.
A similar incident happened here in Dalton, GA. A family from Indiana lost their dog at a local motel and appealed to the local news outlets. She was spotted on multiple trail cams and reunited with her family about 2 months later. God is good!

I've worked w dogs over 20 yrs...Goldens have always been a friend to EVERY person, & EVERY animal.
Fireworks, storms, very scary for some dogs. Cold, hot weather, isn't good for them, either if they are outside. If this precious fur baby can break from a leash others can, too. I am so glad their precious fur baby was found. You could really tell they loved their dog!
Make sure fenced in areas are secure where they can't escape from that, too, or kept inside. I saw a neighbor's dog accidentally escape from their fenced in yard then get hit, let out a LOUD YELP and gone in seconds. I will never forget it 😢💖🐶

Glad to see Lucy is back, but don’t take your dogs to places where there are fireworks. The poor things are terrified.

I wouldn't sleep anymore knowing that my girl is lost. If I had to crawl 1000miles to get her back I would start right now. Beautiful that some people find their dog back and microchip your dog.

Fireworks are terrible for dogs. Those drone firework shows are so much better.
Sheeing their faces drop in disbelief was the best thing. Im such a baby and crying😅❤❤❤😂. To hear that they found other animals too is great. I love this stuff and always wanted to to help rescue lost dogs. This is awesome. ❤
A dog will love you just as you are, whether you're rich or poor, black or white, nice or not... it won't make any difference!
A dog will remain loyal to you whatever happens, whether you have enough to feed and look after it or whether you're destitute and homeless!
A dog will never abandon you, or it will get lost!
But are you prepared to give as much to your dog without expecting anything in return, to feed it, cherish it, look after it and not abandon it one day by tying it to a tree so that you can go on holiday, or because of your friend who doesn't like dogs, or simply because it has become too old?

What a beautiful story. We have two dogs and we would be devastated if something like this happened to our dog. My one is deathly afraid of fireworks and storms I could see something like this happening to him. Glad he’s back home and what a wonderful bunch of people who helped with finding him. Losing a dog is just the same as losing a child. the unsertainty is soul destroying. I lost my 2 boys some years ago after they bolted out the back gate. I was an emotional wreck for over a week. Jake was spotted BY CHANCE being walked on a lead by a complete stranger who thought he'd adopted a stray. so i had to prove he was in fact not a stray and thank god i kept his chip ID up to date.
Oliver was picked up by animal rescue and taken to shelter when i got the call he'd been found safe and well. That was the worst week of my life so i completely understand how emotional it was being reunited with a loved one.

I couldnt have gone home without my dog. I would be completely unreasonable with anyone or any reason to leave without finding my dog. It would be like leaving my child behind..im so happy the reunited..❤
I live in Charlotte, and I'm glad that Lucy was found. But this reporting is weak. You didn't mention whether Lucy is micro-chipped, and how important that is for returning lost pets to their families. You missed a tremendous reporting opportunity there. You also didn't question whether fireworks displays should be continued, as they frighten pretty much all pets, and result in hundreds of lost pets across the US, every year. I, myself, think that they should be discontinued. As a Charlottean, I'm proud that my community rescued Lucy----but I'm embarrassed by our weak local news reporting.

Mine is a little mixed black terrier, I couldn't imagine her being missing for 30 minutes much less months.
