I like Ken Maynard westerns. They are simple and vibrant. He always adds music, I like his singing and playing. The racing around on horses, whether good for horses or not, gave the stories focus. The outdoor scenes made it all seem natural. I even liked the way Ken spoke his dialogue with the other players. He should be better remembered, and not for all the bad gossip. He spent decades working on making good but simple westerns.
Charles Mitchell you're right Charles. Tarzan was probably the most well trained and doted on horse in the movies. I used to train team roping and Cutting Horses. I trained a few tricks to a couple of horses. But it wasn't as easy as letting cattle train them to rope or cut.
At 29:01... Ken teaches his horse a couple of tricks. Of course Roy Rogers always has Trigger billed as 'the smartest horse in the movies'. But maybe Roy hasn't seen Ken Maynard's horse. Sadly both of those horses are dead now. But trigger still is the smartest horse, at least on Roy Rogers. Roy had trigger stuffed by a taxidermist to prove it. Unfortunately Trigger can only do one trick now but he does it well... 'STAY!' 🐴
Well, the legitimate Tarzan died some time in 1939, from then on, in the Grand National films, the Colony films and The Trail Blazers, Ken utilized another horse, Tarzan II. You can tell which is the real Tarzan by a black mark on the rear of the animal.

Funny in some sceans Tarzan looks like a white horse in others Tarzan looks like a palomino which is it.
