Thank you, Lirón! My watercolor class in Santa Barbara, California, is going to meet at the harbor. Your demonstration has inspired me and I look forward to painting the ships anchored there.
I believe that white shape at the back of the foreground ship is actually another ship behind and at 90 degrees to the foreground ship. In any event, still looks great and good use of negative shapes.
Thank you Chris! Someone else also pointed this out 😁🙏🏼 Could very well be - I often go with the initial impression a scene gives me, and don’t double check (:
I managed it without giving up!! Not bad. I learned that as your values look darker just laid down, I get heavy handed and then remember it lightens a lot. So I lost a bit of luminosity in the ship's side. The lesson is, you can always go back and add a layer. I kept the highlights though ! It's all about layers and colour intensity. So much to think about. Thanks.
Thank you Liron , for an excellent demonstration . Your videos are a great help to me .I know very little about boats but want to paint them so the way you simplified the detail of your boat made me realise that maybe I could try that myself .
Lovely little painting. You're loose and light in your touch but I should learn that you're also careful! Losing sight of the pencil marks has been a problem for me. I should try this and not be a coward after the last disaster. Thank you. The middle blue bit is the funnel, by the way.
Haha - thank you for the kind words and for letting me know about the funnel 😁🙏🏼🙏🏼 And by the way - if you can’t see the pencil lines - it’s ok to make them darker (:
When you were creating the ship at first I thought oh no it's too dark. Then you created your magic! It's a lovely picture!
Haha that’s how it works 😉 Thank you 😊🙏🏼
I’m really interested in learning more about negative painting. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for watching! I’m trying to think of new and better ways of teaching this topic, more to come 😊🙏🏼

The shape at the back is actually another ship perpendicular to the lager one.
As a beginner painter, for me, white space is intimidating.
Awesome lesson sir g
nice work as always - and THANK YOU! - but I think the taller shape on the right was actually a 2nd ship facing the camera ;)
Haha could very well be, I sometimes go with the initial impression I get, and never look back 😉🎨
Are you using painter's masking tape?
I’m using a generic paper tape (the type you can easily tear with your hands) (: Got a vid on it
The “thing” at the back of the boat is another ship coming towards us. If you enlarge the picture you will see.
