    Mendelssohn himself can play this piece at the tempo he intended and still get critized here.

    Okay but to everyone saying that this is being played too quickly, it quite clearly says "Allegretto" in the description. It's intentionally being played this quickly.

      Tamar Mack I know, on whatever copy you're playing, but I have the sheet music in my keith snell level 7 book and it says adante sostenuto there

    • @palmtree1958
      @palmtree1958 8 лет назад +5

      Joann Cat No, no i mean in the description of the video. The guy playing this is playing it at the speed it's labelled as him playing.
      That's all I was saying- that people shouldn't be surprised, because the description tells them what tempo he intends to play the piece at.
      I'm not sure what tempo my sheet music says, and I don't have it anywhere near me to check, but either way, that was the point I was trying to make.

    For me, the music is moving and utterly persuasive at this tempo. I've heard it played more slowly and with a great deal more rubato but this performance seems just right in every way. Many thanks...I've loved this piece since childhood.

      This correct tempo portrays the tranquil and reflective mood one feels when gliding in a gondola. It's not meant to portray the actual speed of the gondola in water.

    Помнишь, порою ночною наша гондола плыла....
    Мы любовались луною, всплескам внимая весла.
    Искрились волны лагуны, где-то в дали голубой
    Плакали нежные струны. пел гондольер молодой.....
    Пел он про небо и море, про голубую волну,
    Пел про блаженство и горе, пел про любовь и весну.....

      Elsa Frozen just to show you where you made a BIG mistake is that when it comes to classical music you have to stick with the composer's requirements in order to retain the mood of the piece. If the piece was created to be slow, then it should be played in the same speed. Also, it is nice to add some details of your preference in the piece, but not too many. The piece was supposed to give out feelings of melancholy and drama when played. That's what I believe and I hope I didn't disturb you.

    À mon sens, c'est de cette façon dont cet Op doit être joué, soit de façon simple, direct, sans trop chercher à marquer l'émotion outre mesure. Car ce qui se dégage d'elle est instantané, limpide, chaque note est touchante. C'est pourquoi il n'y a pas besoin d'en rajouter.
    Elle est peu à l'image des plus belles compositions de Satie, une de ces compositions qu'il est difficile de jouer autrement que simplement, au risque que ça n'apparaisse un peu trop surjouée.

    Music is so personal, so up for interpretation...the lush feeling is lost at this speed to me, but it's certainly not "wrong". Maybe this is just how the pianist feels it. At this tempo I fear he might be a little mad, but his playing was enjoyable. Oh well.
