The Venetian Gondola Song Op. 30 is astonishing ! Such simple but beautiful harmonies. Simple left hand accompaniment but full of emotions and passion. Such an amazing work !
Mendelssohn had a gift for beguiling beauty, and these pieces are a testament to that. I have to say some melt into one another indistinguishably, but others stand out as hauntingly unique. The 3rd Venetian Boat Song is a striking example, one of the most somber and evocative things he ever wrote.
hello? My name is Jeongmin Lee and I live in Korea. I like music. Among them, my favorite music is Mendelssohn's Something. It literally means that it is a song without lyrics. Although there are no lyrics, I really like that Mendelssohn's unique beautiful sensibility is conveyed. In my case, I also like pure, warm music. This is also true. thank you
WOW, this really shows off the greatness of Mendelssohn and his piano music in general, which are highly underrated. His piano music really does deserve more respect and recognition. These songs without words are simply on par with--but the less technically difficult versions of--those Schubert-Liszt Lieder, which are nowadays almost de rigueur among the pianists. Well then, so should these Mendelssohn.
he's not underrated at all imo, he's exactly where he should be in terms of recognition. These pieces are still played oftentimes and rightly so. Furthermore his symphonies, his violin concerto, his ouvertures, his octet etc. are very well known...
I have listened to classical piano for years now and cannot believe that Mendelssohn has escaped my ears until now. Such beautiful melodies and amazing compositions. Mesmerizing.
It’s so beautiful how Mendelssohn can make a masterpiece at the individual piece level and at the entire opus level. Each piece is unique but also intimately a part of the larger whole.
