To move the text, make sure that your mouse cursor is directly over the actual pixels of the text before pressing your mouse button. If you click on the white space in the middle of the letter O for example, then you will probably be moving what is behind the text. To make your setup look like mine, go to the “Windows” menu and select “Single-Window Mode.” Then go to the “Windows” menu and select “Dockable Dialogs” and then select Layers, Channels, Paths, and Undo History.

Best tutorial. You want to teach people. Most gimp tutorials go so fast because the teacher wants to have 'a show and tell'. "Look how clever I am". They are not really trying to teach

I watch a LOT of Gimp and Blender tutorials. I've seen a few other good ones, but yours are some of the best and they are consistently good. You are fast enough to not bore me, but slow enough I can keep up, and very thorough. Thank you for the great tutorials!

Really enjoyed this tutorial. Pace was just right: Didn't need to keep pausing and replaying. Great effect that looks much more complex than it is. 11 minutes well spent. Thanks.

..I have just upgraded my GIMP2 to 2.8, and like the new selections on the 'tips' of pencil, brushes....still working with 'layers', and appreciate this very much..this is what I call, "relaxation" in PC art.....endless :]

  • @tutor4u
    @tutor4u  12 лет назад

If you're using GIMP version 2.8 then go to the "Windows" menu and select "Single-Window Mode." The single window mode is not available in earlier versions of GIMP.

Great tutorial, thanks. I'm just scratching the surface with Gimp. Used its basic functions on and off for a few years - but this is taking me into a new dimension!

  • @tutor4u

Thanks for the suggestion. Suggestions are always welcome. The effect that I was trying to achieve was for the supernova to be behind the text and then have the rays of light shine thru the center of the M to the front. Therefore, my intent was for the rays to be visible in front of the M, after passing thru the center.

This is just another awesome tutorial. Note: There is a very quick option to remove guidelines by going up to menu>image>guides>remove all guides. Anyway..can you pretty please make some more videos on realistic 3d metal looking text in blender? You're the BEST.

In GIMP version 2.8, to save your project go to the "File" menu and select "Save As." To save just your final picture, go to the "File" menu and select "Export."

Really enjoyed watching your tutorial videos! Your speaking/training skills are very good. Even with ADHD was able to stay focused and learn something. So many other tutorials jump around and don't flow well, yours don't! I like how you demonstrate the beginning to the end as this results in a very well rounded tutorial. Your kind of like a digital Bob Ross :)

He has it in single window mode, which was added in version 2.8 I think. Click on the Window tab at the top of your screen and select "Single Window Mode". Also, Gimp can be customized in many ways. Watch or read some tutorials about how to customize the look of your Gimp.

0:44 No need to activate the bucket tool - just *drag* the black color with your mouse onto the canvas. Works perfect.

Excellent tutorial, thank you. A quick question - is there a quick procedure for altering the text (i.e. the GIMP title), after you have finished it? The layers are merged so I didn't want to have to undo all actions to achieve this.

Once again an excellent tutorial.Just curious! what would you do to have the background test have some depth, as to not look as thin? Anyway your videos are the best. thank You for your time and effort. I have learned more about the interface watching you than anyone, Especially the text. 2.8 had me a bit confused until you explained in detail.

Hey another great tutorial :-) Relatively easy to follow and great result. The only problem I had was with the shift key when trying to draw a straight line. I click the mouse, hold the shift key and tried to draw a straight all at the same time line but it didn't work. What I should have done was click the mouse once, release, hold the shift key and THEN drag a straight line.
Question: is it possible to use different colour other than black for the text?

Do you take requests? If so, I was wondering if this effect can be done with an image instead of text. For instance, the 'Jedi Order' symbol. Here's the tricky part, though. The image would have to be .png format. There is an outer circle and a design in the center of that. The color between the two objects would need to be transparent so the lighting effect could shine through. If you could make a tutorial on how to do this, It would be most appreciated. I'm looking to make a banner for my page

Is there a beginners video for the new user who has never used anything like GIMP,Photoshop,or inkscape? I'm as green as they come and just wrote down your instructions in this video, ( my outdated printer is not supported anymore by manufactures with ink). And I filled 4 pages.
