That thing is enough to wake the long dead from their graves! LOL - what a beast and it's only the two cylinder model - there's a four cylinder on the Tube that is a real monster to watch.
Keep in mind, it'll probably push out some air even when not firing, unless there is an issue with one of the valves. This is a "valveless" engine, in that there are NO cams - it's all reed/poppet-like valves!
rdmanone It looks like it but, it was blowing smoke out of both at times. Wish I could have found someone to ask some questions but, 5 YO nephew didn't want to be there long enough to ask.
They are designed to run on one cylinder to hold the rpm's when throttled up or under load, they both will fire. Even the three and four cylinders will fire one cylinder with no load. I use to go with my granddad when he worked on these, when I was a kid back in the 60's & 70's.

Boring. There is vid on here with a big FB model 36 I think where the operator puts it through many rpm's including a near stall and throttle up...full of hit and miss action, smoke, and running on one cylinder when cruising steady. A MUCH better vid.
NOSLEEPATALL Just a comment. I'd post that other vid if I had it. Edit: just type in "1936 fairbanks morse model 32D" and see what these engines are really like!
It is not hit and miss. It have normal inertial regulator. One cylinder is dead. This white smoke is the fuel vapor, that is not ignited and blows away from exhaust.
it needs a load to show how they sound when really working. A big water pump or something ,even it just ran a fountain in the fair grounds .
Mercmad I agree. I bet it would really sound good with a heavy pull against it.

I could hear both cylinders tiring at the beginning, until it got up to speed.

Too bad it's only running on One cylinder.

Very nice engine. I would love to have something that big in my back yard. I'd crank that sucker up every time I had a party.

Tinker Jim that is not true. I have restored a few of these and all cylinders are supposed to fire load or no load.
Here’s a shorter video of it running correctly on both cylinders as it should at all times.

I've seen a few clips of this engine and one cylinder seems to do all the work. Has it got some form of on demand governor?
I do believe so but, anyone with more knowledge can chime in and inform us?
@@NOSLEEPATALL Yes more info please! Would love to see a rebuild restoration video of one of these.
@@newtronix the engine has a dead cylinder in this video, that’s not how these governors work.
@@Jay-fb2lv Ah, I see. Thanks for the info. It did seem odd!
I noticed at start up one cylinder was exhausting unspent fuel....was running only one cylinder.
theyre long skirt pistons
i think the injector is bad i that misfiring cylinder. thats not smoke thats vapor
Its like 300 heavy horse, shake the very ground
I am wondering, what kind of works that they have been used for?
I wish I would have asked one of the old guys operating it what its history was?
@@NOSLEEPATALL that would be really fascinating to know about the history

only seems to be running on one cylinder
Running with no load

That camera needs to find a new owner that has working feet.
Says someone that needs even a single video...
Looks like it’s got a burned valve or something! That white smoke is unburned fuel vapor!
с одним цилиндром что то не то
Льёт
Jacktown ? I have a video of it in my channel too
Yeah watching your vid and it seems like it may have been earlier or something that they started it?
its running on cylinder
You can see smoke coming out of the closer cylinder around 8:20 or so

Работает на одном цилиндре.
Hard to get a good translation but, I think it only runs on 1 cylinder because there is no load on the engine.
