Beautiful commentary on an amazing show. Just watched the finale today and it blew me away. Those last few minutes will be with me for a long time, possiblity forever. Profound.
It's funny, your comments on season 4, as I think season 1 is just as "bad" even though there is no bad seasons. Same time the comedy in season 1 feels forced to me at times with the humour, but in the scene when Nate confesses about Lisa in season 4 was so spot on with the shows overall tonality. Just goes to show the amount of shades of grey there are.
This is what I’m trying figure out. I just binged watched it for the first time and it wasn’t good IMO. The writing felt forced at times the characters are all terrible. It doesn’t hold up socially or politically. At times it seems like maybe one of the characters realizes the relationships are toxic and unhealthy but then nope. Get therapy set boundaries and change. Ohh and don’t get be started on the terrible cut to white editing. 6:33 THIS WAS A COMEDY??? Never did I once laugh. No one grows or change they all should be in jail.

I think maybe because I didn’t watch it when it aired and I’m an adult with adult children I’m not the target demographic that it seems to have spoken to most. I can see how it could have been good 20 years ago. I would LOVE to see a remake of the show because I think it has a great premise and set up. It could be more like a live action BoJack Horseman type of editing/pacing so the jokes land better to a modern audience. I don’t know I’m not usually for advocating to remakes but I feel like this show would be a great candidate.
