My favorite thing ever is the fact that this starts with Dazai falling off a building. People who haven't seen the anime will probably think it's some deep symbolic shot, but no, he's really just attempting suicide again and Kunikida is probably yelling up at him from the ground.
Then we thought it was Fitzgerald by season 2. Then it was Fyodor by season 3. Then it was him and Sigma and Nikolai and Fukuchi by season 4. And just Fyodor and Fukuchi by season 5. Ultimately it’s all Fyodor 🤯

Technically speaking, Oda, Ango and Dazai's toast doesn't have to do anything with the title. Since atsushi is MC it refers to him (if you know atsushi's story you will get it) just cuz the 3 musketeers toasted "to stray dogs" doesn't mean that's the origin of the title

Something I noticed that I thought was pretty cool: The tower Dazai is jumping off of is the Headquarters of the Port Mafia. I know this because in the first season two opening, you can see them clearly outlined in red. A cluster of skyscrapers smack dab in the middle of the city, visible from anywhere in Yokohama. You can also see them in random shots where Mori has screen time. I don't feel like typing out a paragraph about the significance of him jumping off the port mafia building, so take this as you will.
Okay, not related but I just love Dazai and Atsushi's older brother-younger brother relationship, sometimes even like a father-son one. It's just- idk I always like the non-related father figure troupe.
easily one of my favorite parts of the anime. their dynamic is so good i love how atsu knowing dazai's past can look past that and see good in him while dazai slowly opens up and becomes a bit less closed off. SPOILERS vv also in the later seasons its so sweet that dazai replaces that stupid orphanage dude in atsu's head. i can't wait for them to hopefully reunite in the next season
I found out why Dazai always wants to kill himself and the reason is kinda sad. The creator of BSD made Dazai's character as a tribute to the author called Osamu Dazai. He committed suicide after trying many times. The bandages on the anime Dazai represent his failed attempts. His ability "No Longer Human" is one of the best selling books written by the author, Osamu Dazai.
Dude, hate to rain on your parade, but... every major character is named after a writer, and almost every ability is named after some major work of author in question. This isn't even some minor trivia that you can surprise people with, this is Bungou Stray Dogs 101 (hell, Bungou Stray Dogs literally means "literary stray dogs", in my country it got a subtitle "Bezpańscy Literaci" (stray writers/literats) ). Atsushi turns into a tiger, because the work his ability's name came from describes a man who got turned into one as a sort of karmic punishment for not being able to combat his imperfections. Ranpo is a detective because the real life Ranpo Edogawa wrote detective stories, he's also friends with Edgar Allan Poe because his work was inspired by Poe's stories and his pen name (his real name was Taro Hirao) was a pun on japanized version of Poe's name - Edogaw Aran Po. Some characters are named after fictional characters in those works - Junichirou Tanizaki in BSD has a sister named Naomi, because there is a character named Naomi in a novel real Tanizaki wrote, "Fool's Love". It also kinda explain this weird incest thing BSD Naomi and Tanizaki have going, because the relationship between the main character of Fool's Love and Naomi is all shades of fucked up (I actually recommend that book, if you're not easily grossed out, out of all the works by BSD Japanese authors, this one is one of my favourites) . Same goes for many other characters: Sasaki Nobuko (this one was a real person - the real Kunikida Doppo's wife, who eventually divorced him, breaking his heart) Elise (a character from real Mori Ougai's "Dancing Girl), Gin (named after a short story "Ogin" by real Akutagawa - some people in the fandom theorise that the cross on her choker is a little nod to Christian themes of some of Akutagawa's works. Not sure how much sense that makes, am not very familiar with Akutagawa in particular). Even Katai's futon, Yoshiko, is named after a character in some of Katai's stories - if I remember correctly, in that particular one the main character is in love with a girl named Yoshiko, but they are separated for whatever reason, sending him into depression and confinig him to bed. Or the reason Dazai, Oda and ango were made into friends - the reason for that is that, as writers, they are classified as belonging to the same literary trend, called The Buraiha, or The Decadent School. Some in the fandom even call BSD Dazai, Oda and Ango The Buraiha Trio. Or the irony of the fact that in BSD Akutagawa strives to get Dazai's attention, since irl Dazai aspired to a major literary prize named after Akutagawa (the Akutagawa Prize) and took it very badly when he didn't get it. Or how Dazai doesn't like dogs, because the real Dazai wrote a whole-ass short story that is focused solely on his distaste for them... I could go on and there are probably things I don't know. I recommend that you continue your research into the real life behind BSD characters, because it is really fascinating ^^ Maybe you could even try reading some of those works? People usually start with Dazai, who's alright, I think, if you can stomach him, cause boy is it depressing. I'd recommend Tanizaki, really liked his syle and if you'd like to check out Dazai, I'd start with Twilight, before doing the deep dive that is No Longer Human.

everyone talks about how dazais ability is perfect for chuuya because he is the only one that can stop chuuya when hes in crazy mode. but no one talks about how chuuyas ability is also perfect for dazai, and how gravity manipulation can easily save dazai when falling off a high building like the start of the opening
The thing I love the most about this show is that you could have a suuper serious moment where someone is in danger or smt and then a funny moment comes out of nowhere and destroys the tension. Like, daizai being kidnapped and this new character appears out of nowhere and says he's gonna fight him. And as he leaves, he does the stupidest thing ever and yells at dazai bc he didn't laugh and I'm like "Chuuya, everybody. The man of the hour".

Jenifer Ortega I agree, this anime needs more recognition and love. I happened to stumble across it while watching D gray man on Hulu, and I was not disappointed I assure ya. Great characters, nice animation, and a decent plot, all wrapped together with Dazai's weird bandage fashion statement. ~^^
Teh Jawker I honestly don't even know what Seinen is... So I kinda don't understand. I really didn't go into watching this anime with any expectations cuz I actually stumbled upon it while browsing. I know this anime isn't gonna be everyone's cup of tea, so I understand that. But if Im honest the second season is A LOT better than the first season in my opinion. I mean if ya really don't like it I understand. I just know I really enjoyed it. ^^

This anime literally has everything! Great action, great storyline, amazing characters that each is very interesting and likeable, great comedy (without the overusage of fan service) hell how it is so underrated I have no clue
at the same time, i feel like it should be kept that way. it's already popular in Japan, but if it gets popular internationally, we'll have the mha fandom🥲
There were so many complaints about this show, but I honestly don't care. It doesn't mean I don't notice the mistakes, It just doesn't bother me. I LOVE Bungou. I enjoy watching anime. I won't critique out loud.

I found out why Dazai always wants to kill himself and the reason is kinda sad.
The creator of BSD made Dazai's character as a tribute to the author called Osamu Dazai. He committed suicide after trying many times. The bandages on the anime Dazai represent his failed attempts. His ability "No Longer Human" is one of the best selling books written by the author, Osamu Dazai.
Dude, hate to rain on your parade, but... every major character is named after a writer, and almost every ability is named after some major work of author in question. This isn't even some minor trivia that you can surprise people with, this is Bungou Stray Dogs 101 (hell, Bungou Stray Dogs literally means "literary stray dogs", in my country it got a subtitle "Bezpańscy Literaci" (stray writers/literats) ). Atsushi turns into a tiger, because the work his ability's name came from describes a man who got turned into one as a sort of karmic punishment for not being able to combat his imperfections. Ranpo is a detective because the real life Ranpo Edogawa wrote detective stories, he's also friends with Edgar Allan Poe because his work was inspired by Poe's stories and his pen name (his real name was Taro Hirao) was a pun on japanized version of Poe's name - Edogaw Aran Po. Some characters are named after fictional characters in those works - Junichirou Tanizaki in BSD has a sister named Naomi, because there is a character named Naomi in a novel real Tanizaki wrote, "Fool's Love". It also kinda explain this weird incest thing BSD Naomi and Tanizaki have going, because the relationship between the main character of Fool's Love and Naomi is all shades of fucked up (I actually recommend that book, if you're not easily grossed out, out of all the works by BSD Japanese authors, this one is one of my favourites) . Same goes for many other characters: Sasaki Nobuko (this one was a real person - the real Kunikida Doppo's wife, who eventually divorced him, breaking his heart) Elise (a character from real Mori Ougai's "Dancing Girl), Gin (named after a short story "Ogin" by real Akutagawa - some people in the fandom theorise that the cross on her choker is a little nod to Christian themes of some of Akutagawa's works. Not sure how much sense that makes, am not very familiar with Akutagawa in particular). Even Katai's futon, Yoshiko, is named after a character in some of Katai's stories - if I remember correctly, in that particular one the main character is in love with a girl named Yoshiko, but they are separated for whatever reason, sending him into depression and confinig him to bed.
Or the reason Dazai, Oda and ango were made into friends - the reason for that is that, as writers, they are classified as belonging to the same literary trend, called The Buraiha, or The Decadent School. Some in the fandom even call BSD Dazai, Oda and Ango The Buraiha Trio.
Or the irony of the fact that in BSD Akutagawa strives to get Dazai's attention, since irl Dazai aspired to a major literary prize named after Akutagawa (the Akutagawa Prize) and took it very badly when he didn't get it.
Or how Dazai doesn't like dogs, because the real Dazai wrote a whole-ass short story that is focused solely on his distaste for them...
I could go on and there are probably things I don't know. I recommend that you continue your research into the real life behind BSD characters, because it is really fascinating ^^ Maybe you could even try reading some of those works? People usually start with Dazai, who's alright, I think, if you can stomach him, cause boy is it depressing. I'd recommend Tanizaki, really liked his syle and if you'd like to check out Dazai, I'd start with Twilight, before doing the deep dive that is No Longer Human.

The thing I love the most about this show is that you could have a suuper serious moment where someone is in danger or smt and then a funny moment comes out of nowhere and destroys the tension.
Like, daizai being kidnapped and this new character appears out of nowhere and says he's gonna fight him. And as he leaves, he does the stupidest thing ever and yells at dazai bc he didn't laugh and I'm like "Chuuya, everybody. The man of the hour".

Jenifer Ortega I agree, this anime needs more recognition and love. I happened to stumble across it while watching D gray man on Hulu, and I was not disappointed I assure ya. Great characters, nice animation, and a decent plot, all wrapped together with Dazai's weird bandage fashion statement. ~^^
1st season started strong and sunked. 2nd season picked up a LOT.
Teh Jawker I honestly don't even know what Seinen is... So I kinda don't understand. I really didn't go into watching this anime with any expectations cuz I actually stumbled upon it while browsing. I know this anime isn't gonna be everyone's cup of tea, so I understand that. But if Im honest the second season is A LOT better than the first season in my opinion. I mean if ya really don't like it I understand. I just know I really enjoyed it. ^^
