He can apparently visualize equations and numbers. Don't feel stupid if you can't do that because...nobody else on the planet has ever claimed to be able to do this before. In another video he describes what he means by this and he says when he thinks about numbers he sees them in his head. Not like the way you see 7 as an rotated down L, he sees something else completely. I don't know if that's what he was doing when he was making that diagram on the piece of paper but that's how it is for him.

Not quite true. He took the physical setup: An infinitely long cylindrical capacitor, and used some conformal (angle preserving) mapping to simplify the problem. This is standard practice when dealing with tough electrostatics problems.

People don't like math , because of the way it's taught. There is generally a lack of intuitive examples in describing what's happening in an equation. Math be taught with creative empirical models/analogies, but instead there is a reliance on extremely verbose and convoluted abstractions; perhaps for the sake of being abstract (ie; "I'm the opposite, of the opposite of being tall") A type of "art-pour-la art", as John Von Neumann would call it.

Every -intelligent- person, as well as how they are raised, is different. Einstein might have not wanted to speak until he came to a certain level of consciousness, but it doesn't mean that children who start speaking at average ages, or very early, are not intelligent. It really depends on 'you'. There are many very intelligent people who do nothing for the sake of science or humanity, as Jacob Barnett mentioned at his TEDx talk. In conclusion, smartness is worthless without work.

He did math/physics on his own (as she said), but she allowed and gave opportunity to him to do the things he wanted (like going to the planetarium). A lot of parents don't do this. This is important because parents play a huge role in child's life. It's that she raised him in a way that ALLOWED him to do this - that's what's important.

Lol isn't it common sense that he was born a genius and naturally has the mental capability for the problems that are given. I would be embarrassed if I was his mother and would just stop giving my opinion on why/how he became an autistic genius. This looks definitely like fraud. The kid is more likely just a simply smart kid that because of some condition had too much attention from the parents and probably hired lots of instructors at home. Nothing wrong with that if he had communication problems but the parents are selling something here, with overexaggerations catchy sentimentalism and commercial hype and anyone else in this bysiness probably follows the money. Shame on academics if they did. The only way I will be convinced this was not just a show either for money or to get the kid some future is if he really makes some discovery. The whole thing from the beginning was that he was about to revolutionize the world. This is called scam tactics. Even if the kid becomes an average or decent physicist like a slew of people esp after the hype, this does not negate the mother's scam. I don't blame the kid because he was little.

I have been searching forever to find information on Jacob Barnett's physics CONCEPTS but it seems as if no one is interested. There a a lot of math behind a gasoline engine powered automobile but no math is required to explain the concept, A tank of flammable liquid is mounted on a 4 wheeled cart, the liquid and air are pumped into a contained space where sparks from a battery cause Explosions which move pistons which in turn rotate some of the wheels of the cart, the direction the front wheels face can be set by a person riding on the cart with a hand turned wheel, this controls the direction the cart moves in, a foot pedal feeds more or less fuel for more or less explosions to make the cart go faster or less fast, another foot pedal stops the wheels from moving when pushed down.
No math at all yet I've explained the automobile as a CONCEPT. The basics of physics theories can be explained as concepts without math, math is required to work out the details but the basic concept requires no math. I want to know what Jacob Barnett's basic theoretical concepts are yet I find not one presentation where anyone seems even the slightest bit curious to know what his conceptual ideas actually are.
The basic concept of general relativity is that gravity does not pull on objects and bend their trajectories like Newton thought, but that it "pulls" on space itself and warps space so that a strait trajectory follows bent space. Jocob says he has a different concept of general relativity, I'd sure like to hear about his concept regardless of all the mathematical details but not one person even seems interested!
I don't care if your 3 years old or or 300 years old if your ideas are interesting I want to know what they are, my impression is most of the people around Jacob feel exceedingly and almost hysterically threatened that a young person might have to be treated with the same status as an older person, they seem to feel incredibly awkward about status issues which strikes me as terminally lame,. If a dog could speak I'd listen to what it had to say, if an advanced alien from another world tried to communicate with me I'd try to understand, I don't care about status issues, upsets in who's supposed to be who in the hierarchy are not at all interesting , content please, forget the sensationalism which after all is only based on prejudice
In the past similar shock was exhibited if a woman showed scientific interest, or if it was a person of the wrong national origin or race, this focus on the issue of age to the exclusion of all else is counter productive, he's young, he has Asperger syndrome, he's a physicist with original ideas, this last thing is whats the most important.

well as a genius im so happy to have the internet! it educated me so damn much. my parents are both normal which often makes it hard for them to know how they should treat me. im 19 years old now and let me tell you: No genius wants parents i had lol.

@@ZyneXx I understand from an intellectual perspective he would consider all girls IDIOTS. I have the same problem. Currently, I am in college with Physics as my 1st major, B.S., and Classical Greek and Latin as a double major, B.A., right now. I have not ever had a girlfriend or love life because I study theology, philosophy, mathematics, history, science, astronomy, sociology, & Hebrew, Greek, Latin, German, and memorize pi to over 1,200 decimals. I'd imagine Jabob is the same way. He doesn't have a love life because he's too smart.

Great minds come to this world, they are few that shine really bright, and they are here to let us pick behind the vail of incomprehensible and the unknown. Let us clear the way for them to create. No need to belittle them only because you are incapable to understand, you might be good at something else - better concentrate on yourself and your own self improvement - so you can leave something behind. Peace and Love to you all.

gamma in the mathematical term is just that.. a term,,, you can use is like X. so to explain any equation without definition makes no sense. gamma in engineering usually means a exponent of a stoichiometric mixture for example in gasoline combustion...not saying he isnt a genious, but it isnt backed here.

Kid seems nice but I really doubt he can be a teacher. Being a genius and being a teacher are too different things. He sees everything in math as easy and can't comprehend how difficult it is for others which will make communication between teacher and students difficult lol I have had plenty of those teachers.

No shit I can't follow what he's talking about. You must have trouble listening... He clearly said he wants to make math more simple for those who are "scared" of it... I'm pretty sure that means people that aren't interested in math and are no where near that level of math because it sea like another language. So he isn't looking to teach like minded people. He may not know how to dumb things down to the average person. Plus being smart doesn't make u a good teacher. It takes a ton of patience and understanding how others take in knowledge as well. I'm glad he wants to help others though.

[Then the lecturer asked a question of the audience: “Our moon is round. Why do you think the moons around Mars are elliptical, shaped like potatoes?”
Nobody in the crowd answered, probably because no one had the slightest idea. I certainly didn’t. Then Jake’s hand shot up. “Excuse me, but could you please tell me the size of these moons?” This was more conversation than I’d seen from Jake in his entire life, but then again, I’d never tried to talk to him about Mars’s moons. The lecturer, visibly surprised, answered him. To the astonishment of everyone, including me, Jake responded, “Then the moons around Mars are small, so they have a small mass. The gravitational effects of the moons are not large enough to pull them into complete spheres.”]
This is the conversation jacob had with a astronomy professor during his presentation when he was three years old. This is an extract from Jacob's mother Kristine's book. Oh Its hard to believe. It would be great if anybody in here knows that professors name. Does anybody in here knows if that professor has verified this story. Jacob having such eloquent conversation on astronomy with a professor at the age of three seems really hard to comprehend.

Here's a question: where did the first mammal come from? What it born? From what? A fish? A reptile? Or what? In order to BE a mammal, it would have to be born, wouldn't it? So, you have to basically say that an organism that lays eggs somehow had a live birth. Or youre going to have to contend that the first mammal was actually hatched. So....what do we know, actually? I think not too much, and that religion is a way of filling in this gap.
    But i could be wrong.
