So many of baseball’s great moments have come with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. These don’t just include clutch walkoffs, but also clutch strikeouts and defensive plays. This one game scenario has hosted countless baseball clutch moments.
You’ve seen plenty of them before, from the Brett Phillips World Series walkoff to the Francisco Cabrera NLCS winner. Knowing the outcome kind of ruins the tension though, doesn’t it? That’s why I’ve selected two lengthy at-bats from forgotten regular season games - just so we can appreciate the drama of bottom of the 9th, 2 outs.
We’ll be looking at the 2011 Mariners and 2011 Blue Jays in Game 1. Can Luis Rodriguez walkoff vs Shaun Camp? Then we’ll switch over to the 2015 Blue Jays and 2015 Yankees in Game 2. Can Andrew Miller strikeout Troy Tulowitzki? I wouldn’t count Tulo out, that’s for sure.
For fans of these teams, there should be a lot to relive. Mariners fans will want to forget the bad Felix Hernandez start, but will they want to remember some potential Luis Rodriguez Mariners magic? The 2015 Toronto Blue Jays were as memorable as they come, but can they get a key win in this 2015 Blue Jays Yankees matchup? You’ll have to watch this episode of Baseball Bits, a Foolish Baseball production, to find out the result of these MLB games.

Foolish Baseball
You should do a video on the 2014 Al wild card A’s Royals
Pretty sure this video was just to torture us Jays fans
This video is really about Brendan Ryan
I really like this concept of revisiting high leverage situations throughout history that the average fan has likely forgotten or maybe never saw. I even think you could make it a reoccurring sort of mini series where you walk through 2 games on the first Friday of every month or something. But I want to suggest one change:
Building tension is a tricky thing. It needs to be a constant build, all in one direction. Now, it can build and plateau, build and plateau... it doesn't need to be all rise all the time... but it needs to never go backwards. When you build tension in story one and then jump to the other story, you're moving backwards in that feeling of anticipation. It's like turning one story from 0 to 3 and then jumping to another story that's back at 0. That type of back and forth story-telling is so difficult to do well that even a master of the craft like Shyamalan is only able to nail it about a third of the time.
You have a really fun idea here. You don't need to crank up the intrigue by bouncing between stories. I suggest you start a story, build the story, finish the story, and move to the next one. I think you'll find it far more effective. Good luck.
As a jays fan this felt like an attack on our bullpen tendencies
thats because it is LOL
As a Yankees fan this felt like a common Yankees W when we didn't deserve one ;)
I'm a jays fan unless they're playing the mariners, so I come out even on this one
😭
Same
“Not 1, not 2, not 4, but 3” is the greatest line ever and will most likely be unnoticed by most.
Hopefully it'll be appreciated by not 1, not 2, not 4, but 3 people.
Truly a great line
@@FoolishBaseball 😂😂😂🤣
“three shall be the number of the counting, and the number of the counting, shall be three”
1, 2, 5!
Common Foolish Baseball W
You're the first comment! Common W for you too.
@@FoolishBaseball Let’s go!
The worst foolish baseball video “would”still be a W, I say “Would still be a W” but foolish baseball has no bad video
@@FoolishBaseball I love you
@@Baseballify That'd be true if not for the Giolito video. Otherwise this is an excellent channel for people who don't give a shit about boreball
Most crushing “Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs” situation I can think of is when Jim Joyce robbed Armando Galarraga of a perfect game. On a personal achievement level it doesn’t get more heartbreaking than that.
I think that would've been top of the 9th. I know, very pedantic of me.
@@FoolishBaseball IIRC you are correct. Guess you’ll have to make a “Top of the 9th, 2 outs” video next!
@@FoolishBaseball hmmm shallow and pedantic
Forgive me for being annoying, but have you heard of our lord and savior Dave Stieb, who experienced losing a no hitter in that situation on back to back starts?
@@Lurchkönig Yeah, but out Lord and Savior Dave Stieb has been blessed and christened by the gods living in Dorktown. But I wouldn’t complain if Bailey gave it a shot.
Bailey: remembers Michael Saunders played for the Blue Jays, briefly
Also Bailey: forgets Justin Smoak played for the Blue Jays for years
I wouldn't dare disrespect the 2016 Michael Saunders All Star campaign
@@FoolishBaseball What about Smoak starting the ASG in 2017?
@@FoolishBaseball i was at the michael saunders 3 home run game vs the orioles… he’s undoubtedly the 🐐
@@bernier42I forgot about smoak all together so I mean 🤷🏿♀️
I often forget that Justin Smoak was my first favorite Mariner that I can remember
"I can do it too" backed up with the amazing narrative payoff at the end, this felt like a Jon Bois masterpiece for more reasons than just Google Maps 😁
JON BOIS MENTIONED!
This is the best Mariners content using Google Earth on RUclips, hands down.
Glad you said it.
It was Pretty Good
@@ndsufan6439 Heeey I see what you did there..
@@ndsufan6439Yeah, if a whole city didn’t think that this was good, they’d be a town of dorks
@Donald38 Oh don't worry. I heard the city threw a chart party because of that
I love how Ricky Henderson just randomly shows up on charts like "yep, he's number 1 and no one can contest that but let's talk about the rest of the normal humans below him"
Same with Bonds
As a Blue Jays fan, this video is a gold mine of "Hey, remember that guy?" And yes, I immediately knew you were going to talk about the Tulo AB.
P.S. It's pronounced "zep-chin-skee" -- the R is silent
knowing who mark rzepczynski even is should get me two free tickets a year to the skydome. that year he went the other way in the colby rasmus deal...that should be another two free tickets. what a dark era of jays baseball.
What a three headed monster out of that pen Casey Jansen Shawn camp and Octavio dotel. So many blue jays legends
When he was on the Indians his nickname was Scrabble lol

I’ve been binge watching baseball bits waiting for a new one. Quality is crazy
thank you much. the goal is to make stuff you can binge watch
@@FoolishBaseball I thought it was to make stuff I could binge watch?!??!?! Unsubbed.
Miller vs. Tulo at bat was one of the wildest and my favorite regular season at bats of all time
Tulo fouling off six two-strike sliders is insane
same. i remember it often
Watched this live and my heart was going crazy
As a Mariner fan, I somehow remembered this game😭.
Also love How the Mariners and Jays series starts tomorrow. So we'll timed

Fresh bits!! The world rejoices
real
Fresh bits. Just out of the oven. Get em while they're hot.
Gotta be honest, the writing and narration in this is absolutely amazing, captivated and giggling the whole way
What a great idea of a video. I've always been around baseball but never followed too heavily. This year I decided why not try and watch as many games as I can and I feel like this video found such a perfect demographic.
Thanks! Hopefully you won't be the only person to have that experience.
Same!
I always enjoy the story-driven Baseball Bits. Stats for stats sake are fun, but my favorites are where you show off the intensity and enjoyment of a baseball game. Music was amazing in the video too
For some reason my five year old is obsessed with this video, especially the mustache part 😂 thank you for keeping it g-rated (unlike some other baseball channels!!)
Please do more of these videos!! It's a great way to showcase important history in action during what seems like an otherwise normal game from the outset
I remember watching the 2011 Jays-Mariners game and going to bed when the score was 0-7. I woke up the next day, saw the final score and wondered how the hell they lost it. Well, now I know. Thanks!
It's so common as to be immortalized in the most famous piece of sports poetry I know of. "There is no joy in Mudville; mighty Casey has struck out."
This is very easily some of my favorite content in baseball. Thanks for all the hard work simply for my viewing pleasure, Bailey.
Days when a new Foolish Baseball video drops is always a good day
that's great to hear
@Foolish Baseball I am curious of what is your deal with the Blue Jays. I was excited that you showcased two Blue Jays game, but at the same time it was two losses 😂😢
I am curious why people leave this comment on every video lol
@@AliceYobby because foolish baseball is the best content on RUclips
Corey Patterson, Octavio Dotel, Shaun Camp, Marc Rzepczynski. Classic names from the 2011 Blue Jays
might've mispronounced that last one
@@FoolishBaseball the "r" is silent. ("zep-chin-ski") overall, a pretty good pronunciation job IMO considering that his nickname is "scrabble"
@@FoolishBaseball I was surprised you got that wrong, he was a crucial piece in the 2011 Cardinals run and his name has been seared into my brain after all the times I heard it in those playoffs.
gotta love a sweet m’s ending in front of a teeny weekday crowd. loved seeing ichiro part of the fun too. thanks for a swell video.
As a mariners fan, it was heart warming seeing that walk off that I had forgotten.
Thank you.
The best part of the mariners clip is the absolute joyful laughter of one of the announcers as the hit gets down
Always a great day with a new baseball bits!
glad to hear that
ONLY GOOD PART OF MY DAY
Little League, 9th inning, 2 outs, our team down by 1 and 2 guys on base, I get up, the count goes to 3-2, I hit a line drive drive to left field and tie the game. Honestly the best moment of my baseball life. Next guy came up and walked off with a single. Great times.
I don't know why, but the end really hit me today. I love baseball. Thanks for another great video
This is so sweet when we just had Cal Raleigh's full count bottom of the 9th 2 outs walk off to end the playoff drought in Seattle last year. I was there! Moments like that make fans for life.
This is the greatest Toronto Blue Jays video of all time
Well, until the very end at least.
Jays still own the Yankees to this day
Yo that graphic of how low that last pitch was is some beautiful, subtle storytelling. Like I’m watching a movie! Your videos are awesome.
I remember watching that Tulo ab with my grandpa in his office. We were so scared of Donaldson who was due up next, such a great at bat. I’ll never forget it.
one of if not THE best baseball video i've ever seen. felt like a movie
Making me watch the Jays lose twice is just cruel
my brother and i have a distinct memory of that yankees-blue jays game. the second you started talking about it i knew exactly what was coming. in fact i remember exactly where i was watching that whole at-bat tulo vs miller. it was a great game
A 9 minute AB with 5 mound visits is insane
Nail biting. It's not like it's the first inning and no one is on base. The game was on the line there. They didn't want to face a red hot Donaldson with no where to put him and they didn't want to groove one to Troy.
Some may disagree with me, but imo this is your finest video. Perfectly captures the joy of what watching baseball is like, the slow tension, the almost ABSURD levels of waiting to see the game explode, the heartbreak of instant disappointment and the exhileration of victory. Baseball is a game about payoffs and this video understands that. If I wanted to get someone to enjoy baseball, I would show them this video.
The dig at Jon Bois had me rolling
I was at the Jay's and Yankees game and what a game it was. It was a playoff atmosphere with a overcharged fan base and a Jay's team riding an 11 game win streak following the trade deadline leading into that game. David price pitching his 2nd start as a Jay.
You should make this a series. That was an excellent watch and I definitely felt the drama and tension!
Trout vs Ohtani in the WBC final felt like a Bottom 9th 2 Outs moment
But it was the top of the 9th
I was happy to see both games have the Jays being referenced, until the ending. Thanks for that.
As a diehard Rangers fan, *bottom of the 9th, two outs* is a special form of PTSD few can comprehend
As a Blue Jays fan, I remember the 2015 game. I don’t remember the 2011 game, but I bet it wouldn’t be hard for me to find someone who does. Great video. Best channel on RUclips.
It’s simple. Bailey posts, I watch
that's all I ask!
This has gotta be one of your best. Loved the writing in this one!
EDIT: I wanna talk to McCann too!
I feel like it’s the bottom of the ninth with two outs, the way I anticipated an amazing video.
edge of your seat stuff
omg hello mr. baseball, or should I call you Foolish? Anyways, great content as always. Terrific video!
This is the best baseball content out there. I love the stupid little jokes like the one at 2:33. Great stuff, Foolish Baseball!
Here before Retro Baseball
What Happened to Retro Baseball
I’m a Rays fan but I cheered for the 2015 Jays really hard after the Price trade. So much so that I watched the game you used in this video via a totally legal stream while I was on vacation. That team was so special I thought they would be the AL champs at the very least.
I was at the 2015 game in Toronto, without a doubt one of the greatest battles I’ve ever seen- yes I am a blue jays sicko
Get help!
Bailey, I think this was your opus. I was glued to my screen for two regular season games from 8 and 12 years ago that I could have looked up the result of. Well done
Wow a Kony 2012 reference? I’m so old…
I love when Foolish BB just says “heck with it, let’s just watch some baseball”
As a blue jays fan, this hurts
I am *such* a huge fan of when you decide on a specific baseball moment for the main topic, like your Game 7 video or the 2019 Yankees/Twins game recap you did. And hell it's actually even more impressive you were able to get 15 minutes just pretty much out of a mere two plate appearances lol
Any plans on making more videos like this in the future just focusing on individual games?
As a Jays fan, this is all but too familiar. Jays teams blowing late leads and failing to clutch it up when it matters. Hopefully they can break that trend this year.
looking good so far (not really we just blew another lead)
Not 1, not 2, not 4, but 3 made me cackle madly. Great video as always.
Would love to see a video on JP arencibia’s unbelievable MLB debut where he went 4-4 with 2 HR’s, including one on his first ever MLB pitch
I love baseball bits they rejuvenated my love for baseball
I love your content and I hope this comes across the right way, but I think this was kind of your first miss. I have thoroughly enjoyed every single baseball bits (even the goofy international players one) deeply, but I don’t think the idea for this one was conveyed especially well. I wanted to be invested in the outcome for each home team, but I just wasn’t. It might be an outcome thing, where I remember the 2015 Blue Jays and assume the 2011 Mariners missed the playoffs. But the most tension and excitement I felt was when I heard and saw that Toronto crowd on the edge of their seat. I think the stark differences of each situation, despite their similarity in box score, could have been the main point here, but it wasn’t really focused on as much here. Finally, some of the “tangents” you made in this one seemed loosely connected to the argument made in the video. Kershaw’s high breaking balls to illustrate mistakes vs punishment, Andrew Miller’s pitch repertoire, just didn’t add as much to the point of the video as I had hoped. I don’t mean to senselessly hate on every aspect of the video, because there are great segments to it, it’s just I think every other baseball bits communicates it’s central theme a little better than this one. I hope you keep making similar content and maybe learn from this video to improve as a creator. ❤
I don’t get the point to this video either. We just watched highlights of 2 games for 15 minutes without a real takeaway.
I think this was really politely worded constructive criticism tbh
6:05 one of the sickest examples of why baseball is awesome
0:34 I now know what a catcher's down smash looks like. Crisp.
10/10 video. Great way to make something that happened 12 years ago exciting
New Baseball Bits on a day when I am wearing my Super Baseball Bits shirt. How fitting.
awesome!
Foolish Baseball is one of the very few channels that I will drop whatever I'm doing for as soon as I see the notification. Another great video!
You will never see this, but I know how critical you are of your own videos. I have to say, this is the first Baseball Bits that I didnt speed up one bit. I have loved all of them before, but this might be my favorite. We wont see any 'gamesmanship' under Lord Manfred, but I think it is for the best of the game. Such a good video Bailey.
9:40 thank you mr Bois
I definitely remember that Yankees-Blue Jays game, because that ending was so intense! I didn’t know the outcome of the Mariners one, though. Great job at narrating us through that story, FB
I honestly forgot about the Miller vs Tulo at-bat. As a Yankee fan who saw his team collapse in the second half of the year, I was fully expecting Tulo to win it.
2015 was such a weird season. Especially with the Royals winning it all by playing dead-ball era baseball.
That Tulo - Miller at bat was something. I’ll never forget how long it took.
Would love to see a second entry in this, possibly covering just one game. maybe even expanded as a series?
Anyway, great work as always!
Foolish baybee that transition at 9:40 was.... pretty good
I actually remember this exact Tulo v Miller at bat. At the time, I said "This is what a playoff at bat looks like"
Need more frequent videos foolish, you’re gonna fall out of my algorithm with all the other baseball accounts being more consistent. GLAD TO HAVE YOU BACK GOAT.
your humor and style is awesome! I look forward to your vids man!!!
This is such a fun video--one of my favorites you've ever made Bailey
Bailey, always love your videos but have to say this one of my favorites ever. Great stuff!
Love you bud, thanks for constant bangers
Love this idea of running through great old moments. It could have been 2 separate videos. Keep it up Mr. Foolish!
Mr Foolish I’m staying up late when I have to be up at 6am for work to watch this. You’re worth it
Bailey as Charlie Brown:
"Rats."
Iconic.
Hey Foolish, you should do a video on the unluckiest pitchers in baseball like those who have given up the most unearned runs
The bottom of the ninth 2 outs moment I will always remember is game 7 of the 2014 World Series, that triple from Alex Gordon to be 90 feet from tying the game was insane and it hurt to see Perez pop up after
I was just thinking about how FB hadn't posted in a while. Nice to see a new video.
As a jays fan, this video made my day cuz I was reminded of some of the short great jays like Tulo and David price
As a rays fan, that Brett Phillips hit will forever be my favorite baseball moment. Pretty sure I lost my voice and ran about 50 laps around my house😂
Love the casual Jon Bois poke. It was Pretty Good.

This was a great video! Truly quality content!
Thanks Bailey! Great video as always!
Bailey I thought this was gonna be an editorial on the pitch clock in the 9th inning but surprisingly no agenda just good baseball vibes
I was at that game in Toronto... I never thought I'd have to see that many mound visits in one at bat again...
These videos are always great. And you commentate very well
