Enslaved persons burial ground in the Bronx could see landmark status

Local educators say it's a victory for them, as they've worked for more than a decade to re-write the wrongs of the past. CBS New York's Shosh Bedrosian has the story from Hunts Point.

To give you an idea of how long this park and burial ground has been a subject of attempts to memorialize it, I have a dictionary given to me for writing a school paper article on its first restoration, when I was a 5th grade student at PS 48. That was in 1963. At that time, I do not remember any mention of the unmarked graves of the enslaved, only those of the founding white families. I think I would have been traumatized by that knowledge. I'm glad the horrid truths of our history are being revealed and those departed souls, given the respect so long denied.
