We Black Americans have been cheated out of our own languages from the Mother Continent. We must learn so that we can begin to take back our culture.
I like the Twi which is so cool to learn one of our ancestry African language. I was born in Canada, my parents from Jamaica but I remember reading a Jamaican history book that about 80% of Black Jamaicans come from Ghana mostly the Fanti & Ashanti and I had opportunity to visit Ghana two times but I admitted that I not fluent in the Twi language.

Most of the slaves in Suriname and Guyana come from there and Brazil also. Slaves from Congo went to Brazil as well. You may not look African but I GUARANTEE you that you are descended. You know the history. We 'Latinos' all are mixed with Amerindian, African, and Portuguese/Spanish heritage.
If that's her on the picture she can not be dont say silly things. in south america it exist a big part of mixed people like it exist also pure amerindians, pure white people, and pure black people. Me and you we are black but if she have no one black ancestors she cant be from ghana. And in suriname enslaved african was principaly from different tribes of Ghana (ewe,fante,brong,asante,ahafo, etc), different tribes of Dahomey (ewe, fon), different tribes of Nigeria (igbo,ife...) and a little bit of Kongo and angola. in brasil the major part of enslaved africans was from angola, kongo,dahomey(fon), nigeria (yoruba), with a little bit of ghana too.

I'm a Diasporian African and I've been trying to stick to an African language to study and learn. I believe that Africans in Diaspora should learn an African language, with that being said I decided to learn Twi! I found this video helpful in reviewing basic phrases! Lol I took a DNA test and was connected to my family from Ghana that were here in the states through AncestryDNA he also took the test we had a very high family DNA probability and matched the same 2 great grandparents. My great grandmother lives here with me in NY and has dementia so I took the test because she can't confirm anything. Anyway we are connected on the maternal side and have been talking frequently like long lost cousins we are. Anyway don't knock the test or mixture it's hard to take the leap and learn something new that is essentially who you are. You're page is great and I am a new subbie!
Give your great grandmother two tablespoons of organic coconut oil in the morning and at night and also fish oil for omega 3. This will bring here back to health and her mind. Also rub some rosemary oil on her scalp. I wish you well. Shalom family.

I am a first generation American born from a West Indian family (Guyana). I've heard people say "Black Americans don't know their ancestry/history" and "They don't have culture." As an American, I say we do and it's black culture in the U.S, the one that is 'trendy' and a lot of people of all nations want to emulate. Unfortunately, we had to create this culture because our history has been erased. But, I have also acknowledged and embraced my parent's culture as well. I asked my grandfather where our ancestors are from and he too said, "...from the Ashanti tribe in Ghana." Since then, I wanted to understand the language in every way. Thank you for taking the time to teach the language!
I want to learn two..it sounds beautiful to my my ears. Plus I'm African American and yes I understand some African ppl don't see us as African. That's alright though. It is difficult for us because we're so mixed up with several tribes. I want to do the DNA test and whatever my results are....which ever percentage is higher I'll say that's what I am. Why make it so confusing? Lol.

I guess it's just difficult on your part to find out exactly where you are from, but I do realise these DNA tests help to at least give you an idea of which part of Africa you are from.

I am a first generation American born from a West Indian family (Guyana). I've heard people say "Black Americans don't know their ancestry/history" and "They don't have culture." As an American, I say we do and it's black culture in the U.S, the one that is 'trendy' and a lot of people of all nations want to emulate. Unfortunately, we had to create this culture because our history has been erased. But, I have also acknowledged and embraced my parent's culture as well. I asked my grandfather where our ancestors are from and he too said, "...from the Ashanti tribe in Ghana." Since then, I wanted to understand the language in every way. Thank you for taking the time to teach the language!

Plus I'm African American and yes I understand some African ppl don't see us as African. That's alright though. It is difficult for us because we're so mixed up with several tribes. I want to do the DNA test and whatever my results are....which ever percentage is higher I'll say that's what I am. Why make it so confusing? Lol.

Hey sis! Thanks Ooo. I hope these lessons help you to learn 😊😊😍..... I personally still regard African Americans are Africans. I guess it's just difficult on your part to find out exactly where you are from, but I do realise these DNA tests help to at least give you an idea of which part of Africa you are from.
African Ancestry is a great option. Try are Black-owned and operated and they don't sell your DNA like other companies.

T B Sister we are Africans. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you’re not African. All so-called African Americans are Africans. Being kidnapped and brought to America didn’t change who we fundamentally are. If they kidnapped Chinese or Asians and brought them to America they would still be Chinese or Asian. That’s just the truth.

I’m Jamaican my great grandmother is a maroon warrior unfortunately I never got to meet her I feel like I lost a great deal of history. I learned maroons are descendants of the Ashanti tribe I want to learn can you do the alphabet ?
