  • Romania is located in the southeast of Europe. With an area of 238,000 km2, it is the ninth largest country in the European Union and is home to a population of around 19 million people. Its capital, Bucharest, is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, the sixth most populated in the EU. Other main cities are Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Iași and Constanta. These cities are economic, cultural and educational centers of the country.
    The official language of Romania is Romanian, a Romance language derived from Latin. The country is also home to a significant Hungarian minority, as well as communities of other nationalities such as Moldova, German and Ukrainian. The currency is the Romanian leu and the flag of Romania is a vertical tricolor of blue, yellow and red, colors that represent the sky, the sun and the earth, respectively.
    Religion plays an important role in the lives of many Romanians. Orthodox Christianity is the majority religion, with around 86% of the population identifying as Orthodox. Other major religions include Roman Catholicism (5%), Protestantism (3%), and Judaism (0.2%).
    Romania's economy is one of the strongest in Eastern Europe. The country is a major producer of agriculture, textile and automobile industries. Tourism is also an important sector of the Romanian economy.

    The war in Ukraine has opened a deep wound in the Romanian psyche, with the specter of escalation and economic instability lurking on the border. Corruption, like a persistent plague, corrodes trust in institutions and hinders the country's progress.
    Romania's relations with other countries are complex and varied, with nuances ranging from friendship and cooperation to tension and mistrust. Romania considers the other member countries of the European Union as important partners in areas such as the economy, the security and cultural cooperation. Romania also has a special relationship with the Republic of Moldova, based on common history, culture and language. Romania also has friendly relations with other countries such as Israel, Turkey, Japan and Australia.
    As for the relationship with Russia, it is tense due to the conflict in the neighboring country of Ukraine, while the relationship with Hungary is tense due to the situation of the Hungarian minority in Romania.
