I have an electric fuel pump in line for priming while the mechanical one is what I normally use and you could loop it to polish the fuel in a pinch . Ultimately for me the only real fix for a dirty tank is to remove it and clean it by hand spotless . I will never again put fuel in a boat without running it through a funnel with a filter that also takes out water . . As to the fill, the gasket must be checked every time you open it and replace at any hint of a crack coming .
A flapping headsail leach in most of your shots, have you tried moving the h/s car forward. Better life span for your sail and more speed equals safer voyages. An emergency supply of fuel directly from one of your Jerry cans with clean fuel can also help..its not going to be flat and calm down that coastline.
Rough seas will always stir something up in your tank. If you know the fuel in the tank is this bad, quickly clogging filters, you can disconnect the line from the tank and run straight out of a fuel can to get to a marina. Just make sure you dont let it run empty or you'll air lock.
If it was easy, everyone would do it! Keep up the great work 👍. Although I think you might be having yourselves on if you think Chilli "accidently" damaged the autopilot, she didn't look impressed! My money is on Chilli committing sabotage as recompense for the rough trip 😁
In case you ever think yours is “just another RUclips channel…. “ I can rightly say that following your journeys has had an immeasurable benefit to my life the past two years. Your episodes always improve my state of being and motivate me to take the steps I’m able to in a direction similar to the one you’ve chosen. I’ll be forever grateful to you both for sharing your adventures in the way you do 🙏
@@robertgold2643 This is such a lovely comment Robert. Thank you so much. We’re just so glad to know that you get so much out of the videos and we really appreciate you letting us in on that 🥰 we look forward to continuing to share our journey with you 😊
Maybe you could have a emergency system for setting up to run off a Jerry can that could be quicker than diagnosing or changing filters idk just a thought 👍👍
You have no choice but to carry on. So, carry on you must. Luckily the problems were relatively "simple" to overcome for the short term. Thanks for the episode.
Great decision to pull into Carnaervon - that tank needed to be cleaned out, pronto! It's worth considering moving your primary filter to a more accessible spot - you can make your fuel lines as long as you like, so if it's osmewhere nice and easy to get to your life is going to be MUCH better. By the way, that knot in the stomach feeling you described, when you know you're going to get your arse kicked? That's the price (and value) of experience. But because of it, things are never so bad as you fear. So it's the very thing that keeps you out of hte worst of the trouble too. Loving watching this West coast leg, even though you might not have enjoyed it so much at the time. Thanks for taking one for the team 🙂
Your courage and resilience in navigating the challenges of the Indian Ocean with a broken sailboat are truly remarkable, demonstrating your determination and seamanship. Your ability to share this journey with honesty and bravery inspires admiration and respect. And I am Floating Village Life
Wow, what a rough 2 legs beating into it with all the fuel and mechanical issues ! Glad you have gotten to a marina where hopefully you can get that fuel cleaned up or at least get a few hundred new filters, lol ! As always I LOVE your content and pray occasionally for your safety and well being. Get some rest and I will be waiting patiently for the next episode - hopefully to find more favorable winds.... Much love from South Carolina !
You can always temporarily run the engine off of one of your fuel cans. I have done that before I also made the return into the fuel can. I'm sure many others have done this also.
That coast looks gnarly! Beating into it can suck the fun out of sailing, something we sign up for regularly here in the PNW😅 Love your vids guys, keep it up!
Sorry to hear about your engine/fuel woes!! You guys were getting g smashed in the last two episodes!! Western Australia has really done a number on you!!
We had a bout with the dreaded bug and were able to use a bicycle pump to blow back through the line into the affected. tank. A lot nice than licking diesel. Bugger of a thing to deal with though as you'll know by now. You have also confirmed our previous decision not to take on the WA coast. Not fun. Cheers!
Hectic dramas on the high seas, the joys of sailing Whales are so graceful, i got to see my first ones up close & personal a couple of weeks ago while they're traveling up the east coast atm Safe sailing 🙏 Cheers
Carnarvon is an amazing town that has everything. There's a great Repco store that will have everything that you need, Repco is just across the carpark from Woolworths
Your tale of woes, G, I'd rather be sailing down the west coast than doing what I'm doing..........and that's not sailing Nakama down the wc,lol😊. I'm so hoping that you can make the decision to show us the Abrolhos Islands. If you can't get the time........well that's how it works 😢 Fair winds U2 scallywags, look forward to your next post. We definitely won't miss the Abrolhos, so much interesting history and amazing scenery! It would be a shame to cruise straight past 😊 Cheers legend, see ya then!

Hahaha standard WA sea breeze. We race Perth to Exmouth which is great fun and coming back I get delivery crew to bring her back. Just get delivery crew and fly to a Perth 😀😀
Sorry for the fuel hassles- I was wondering why you didn’t rig the fuel line so you could just put it in a fuel jug with clean stuff- 6:57 bypass it the tank entirely ?
Fuel thing happened to me old man once. He had a spare 4m hose and gravity fed it from a 20L jerry on deck to his 120hp perkins. That was all fine until he got used to the idea then one day put the hose into the fresh water jerry one fateful day lmao
Good question! Names are such a funny thing, We do love our spicy food.....but yeah I think it just comes from a chilli 🌶️ and shes grown into it.
