Now here’s something you don’t see every day. Using what looks like and old sealed up coal chute to remove the fuel that replaced it for home heating. People wonder why FDs have HazMat units. Here’s one damn good reason. Great video Skyler
I was going to say right after he finished cutting the whole in the grate, play "break on through to the other side. Hurst tool would have spread those bars not sure if that would be safe though. Vac truck on scene upon arrival! Wishing all members are well!
It's a little offensive that firefighters need to sledge concrete and disassemble e-bikes with steel cutters. The state should invest in specialized toolsets for all job types.
Special ops companies do have specialized tools. Most of the time Ebikes are cut with steel cutters is because they are destroyed and totaled anyhow. So they are not taking the time to disasemble something that can possible reignite, let alone the fact it is already damaged and may not be able to be systematically taken apart. When this stuff is going on the scene is not stable. It is a dynamic envrionemnt and has hazards. So stitting down like an HVAC tech or Mechanic is not going to happen in most cases. About the only time I seen something controlled and systematicalle done was for a person with their hand caught in a machine. Last but not least. The state does not fund anythign. It is up to the local jurisdiction to fund their own units.
Hey Skyler , question: This seems like a mess to be cleaned up by the oil company or the building management. Heating oil has a very high flash point , doesn’t seem dangerous. Why does FD get involved in the cleanup?
Probably because they were called. If I had a dime every time the fire department was called and fixed something that was not their problem I would have a good life savings right now.
The process of decontamination of equipment and clothing might be an idea for Fleet Friday, if they would let you see it.
Can’t do any videos inside firehouses

I think only the SOC companies like squads and rescue have extra tools for those type of jobs

If there is a specialized tool for something FDNY probably has a couple. The rest of us make due with what we can get
Congratulations guys!
Thx

People live inside the building it would be different if it was a commercial building.
