My aunt and uncle have lived at Tell City for decades, and will for the rest of their lives: it’s home! We tried to talk them into moving north, where the majority of our family live, so we could be there if they needed us, but I understand.

I had to invent a narrator voice, thought I was mimicking the Dateline NBC guy. But now that you mention it, I might actually be mimicking Marty! 😀 Some people love the narrator voice, some absolutely hate it, many others tolerate it because they like seeing places I go! 😀
For anyone traveling through Tell City. A stop at the Pour Haus for lunch or dinner is in the former Foundry and Machine shop built in 1876. Beautiful building and very good food as well.
Good story. I don't remember the Willam Tell story being in Indiana. Surely i learned that in school! Asked my mom an dad which cave they took me to an my mom said Marengo an my dad wasn't sure but it started with a m. If thats what it was i don't remember it being so beautiful. Wonder if they have more lights since 1962.
Likely Marengo. They’ve likely updated lights and such over the years, as they compete with other showcaves for tourists. But, still one of the best caves I’ve ever toured. 🙂

That was a fun video to do, and so many nice people helped me with research. I’m working on another local story, along the same lines, but it is a monster to pull together! Hopefully I’ll have a few subscribers left by the time I can publish it! 😀
Very nice video, Roger, but Helvetia, the Latin name for Switzerland, is pronounced Hell-vee-shuh or Hell-vish-uh. There is a little village down in West Virginia named Helvetia, that was founded and settled by Swiss immigrants. Hell-vish-uh is how the townsfolk pronounce the name of their town☺
You got me! Since I’ve been filming southern Indiana, Helvetia is the third town name I’ve mispronounced, but folks like yourself have been polite in telling me the correct way. The town of Oolitic is pronounced “oh-lit-ik”, the Swiss town of Vevay is pronounced locally as “Vee-vee”. I’ve been considering a full length movie about our Indiana portion of the Ohio River, will certainly make some changes. Thank-you!
My Grandmother lived just a few miles from Oolitic and pronounced it like you and I did! Moral of story: Roger needs to stop at local gas stations and ask people what their town is called!
When I lived in central Indiana, all the kids referred to the town just south of us as: “Raglafart”. But that was not the towns official name at all, it was “Trafalgar”, they just said it backwards to be funny! To this day, if you’re a kid of the 1980’s, it’s still Raglafart. 😃
I remember hearing the lunch whistle from the old chair factory going off every day at noon all throughout my childhood.

I don't think that he said that it took place in Indiana. It was an old Swiss story that inspired the name of the town.

My uncle used to build Tell City furniture, ages ago. He and my aunt still live there
Tell City Furniture became famous when their designs were selected to furnish the White House during the Kennedy administration.
