Fun Fact: Death Note and Code Geass anime came out the same year (2006), so they are considered rival anime, one didn't really copy the other, they just have overlapping similarities. As far as inspiration for code geass and its characters, it is inspired by the lore of the original gundam series and Lelouch is inspired by the rival character of gundam, Char Aznable. (who ironically is voiced by Shanks VA for the Gundam series)
I actually always hated the comparisons between light and lelouch. It makes sense, but also the actual motivations and emotional character depth of lelouch is so much more nuanced. Whereas Light is pretty much just a sociopath/serial killer complex. Lelouch feels like a real human

He calls himself Lelouch Lamperouge but then reveals his actual name is Lelouch vi Britania when commanding the soldiers to die. The reveal shows that he is of royal blood with that name. The emperor has many wives so Clovis and Lelouch only share the same father. It's a lot of information going on in the first few episodes so it's really easy to miss the reveal, most people only get it in episode 2. Really exited for the next few episodes!

You are supposed to be that confused, but there was a very small hint. When Lelouch gave his commands, he said "Lelouch Vi Britannia commands you!" In monarchies, only royalty are given the name of the country as their last name.
This is an anime where you truly need to understand the full concept of the show and all the messages it’s trying to deliver. But truly, the greatest ending of all time.

They have different mothers, but the father is the emperor. The dub is very, very good.
Lelouch and Clovis are half siblings. Yall will understand more later. Different mothers basically. Pay attention to their entire surnames. And its not some major spoiler but you will naturally understand the family tree in a few episodes. There are MANY heirs. Notice Clovis was called the 17th in line to the throne. King has had many children.
This one’s most likely my favorite show. Stopped counting after the 7th time I watched it. Excited to see how you react to the ending. So much foreshadowing and some of your guesses are almost so much on point. “What if Lelouch joins Britannia?” Lol, right?
A nice headcanon to have with the Sub vs Dub debate for C.G. is that I would think on which side the Brtitannians thought it was more practical. Did the Britannians force the Japanese to learn English or did they learn Japanese in order to control their new colony? Not to convince which one to watch, but just another flavor to add to this GOAT of a series.
Lelouch isn't Japanese/Eleven, he is Britannian and thought to be long dead by his siblings...this was part of the reason you saw him with Suzaku when they were young and you saw Britannia attacking Japan, then Lelouch says that he would destroy Britannia. That's as much as can be said so far without spoiling anything, which will be revealed by the anime pretty soon anyway. Also, good catch at the start of the second episode on comparing this to Great Britain and America...the Britannian conquest of the world is meant to be a contrast of what would have happened in the world had America lost the American Revolution.
"I already feel the show is going to end next episode." Strap in boys. You are in for one hell of a ride. So many fist bumping triumphic moments. And so much heart ache awaits. Punctuated by amusing breaks.
My Favorite Anime beating Naruto😅. You might see similarities between Code Geass and Gundam as Gundam franchise is under Sunrise Studio and also Code Geass is under Sunrise Studio.
Something to keep in mind which also makes this anime so great is it’s an Original product, not an adaptation of a manga. We don’t have many original animes now that get as much attention as Code Geass outside of movies.

Lellouche is a much more complicated character than you might imagine.
