- Swamp Chestnut Oak (Quercus michauxii) - Named for the French botanist Andre Michaux, who discovered this stately oak (among many others) back in the 1800’s, the common name refers to where it is found and the shape of the leaves. Don’t let the swamp part fool you…although a heavy drinker, SCO’s won’t tolerate poor drainage or longer periods of flooding, save those spots for Nuttall or overcup oak. Rather, it prefers rises or swells in poorly drained bottoms, and will thrive in moderate to well drained bottoms and coves that lead to the bottoms. It has also taken on other names such as “basket oak” and “cow oak” based on uses for its wood and acorns.

Thanks Dudley! I've been buying your trees for a couple years to plant at a Florida not-for-profit campground near Dade City that provides free camping for youth groups. They have great music festivals, too!

Love yalls videos would love a video of good oaks for waterfowl. That can tolerate the water in the winter.
People in my area of West Central Louisiana call these Water oaks which they are not of course and they call the Water Oaks Pin oaks lol. But I have one of these I planted at the end of my sewer field line about 20 feet from the end and it's growing like crazy 15 ft tall in 5 years.
Any advice on growing arrow arrum from seed?
