Ich möchte diese Interpretation von Bachs Air zum Anlass nehmen um zu sagen, dass alle Bach Interpretationen der Netherlands Bach Society erstklassig und in ihrer Art unverwechselbar sind. Hervorragend.
I first heard this song as a little kid playing on my first Casio keyboard. This song was the “Demo” button. I never knew the name of the piece. I always thought it was so beautiful. I later remember seeing the movie Seven and being like “it’s that song!” Every time I need to remember the name I Google “movie Seven library scene music”. It really is beautiful.
@@nitroflapI prefer to use 'piece' for differentiation purposes, but 'song' should be perfectly acceptable. There is a series of compositions by Felix Mendelssohn for the piano which he titled Lieder ohne Worte (Songs Without Words). In the present day, 'lied' (singular form) in the English language refers to unaccompanied vocal music for that certain period, but in German it simply means "song"
This is such an amazing piece, not only in its structural elegance, but in the feeling, the affect, the emotion it conveys. For a long time I don't know if that feeling was a warm greeting or a warm farewell. I think now, it is the remembrance of a most fond first hello during the final farewell. But then again, I have had some wine...
Brilliant ! Performance. True and heartfelt, passionate. Because this piece is so well known/recognizable and because it is performed so often, it is often played in a perfunctory manor, or ‘walked through’ by the musicians. Thus performance is truly! Extraordinary. Just beautiful ❤🎼🎼🎼🎼
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. God bless you all!!!! I crave this kind of authenticism, combined with impeccable direction and musicianship. The world is whole again.l
I love this piece so much. It's such a beautiful melody. But I'm laughing my ass off at the lady in green eyeshadow looking worried at the person to her right. Her eyes are screaming. 0:21 - 0:24
This Aria has been in use as main theme for a very popular Italian tv science show, "Quark", by late journalist Piero Angela. One of the best cultural shows ever broadcasted in Italy. I remember watching it with my family in the 90s. Amazing Aria, amazing version, amazing memories
They must look at the leading violinist at fermates, as at fermates musicians are allowed to hold on to notes for as long as they want, so someone must decide, for how long a note should be held on. You can also (in cases if you get lost) listen and look at other musicians to find a right point to step back in. It also helps you determine when to step in after pauses, as again, the leading musician decides when such things should happen. They of course have a conductor (playing the harpiscord), but he isn't capable of constantly conducting everyone, as he is pre-occupied with an another instrument.
Someone else already explained it but in simple terms, they're looking to first violin to wait for their cue. Just helps them time things up more easily.
I just listened to a another group on original instruments, I will not name them, and was struck by the lack of phrasing and dynamics, and just had to find something better. THIS is definitely the 'better'. Arnarstyrb is right! The harpsichord is so beautifully present!
This work of Bach is a marvel among wonders. And, incidentally, funny in the image thanks to the violinist on the left (at 0:23 and 3:13) and especially to the harpsichordist (at 1:10 and 3:25). I would be curious, even envious, to know what they fuel...

Beauty is in the ear of the listener. The writing of Bach played "straight" leads to plenty of beauty... why do these players want to get in the way between the composer and I? Making things complicated.
We use to perform on baroque pitch, A=415 Hertz. This sounds half a tone lower than modern pitch (a piano for example). Please keep posted, an explanatory video on pitch is in the making
@@bach I actually have a degree in music so thank you for explaining pitch to me and offering to show a video explaining pitch to me lmao, even if it was much closer to what we do now I would still have said its interesting
This is one of those strange cases in which historical accuracy lessens the beauty of the piece. This, to be sure, is not the fault of the NBS, whose Bach interpretations are probably the best in the world, and who always remain extremely faithful to the style in which the pieces Bach composed were meant to be played. And within the boundaries of "correct" style, the interpretation is magnificent indeed. But, in my very humble opinion, this is one of those rare occasions in which "modern", "romantic" and "historically inaccurate" interpretations actually embellish what is anyway a supremely beautiful piece.
Salve ! Mi permetto una domanda scorretta. Perdonatemi ! Quale spartito usate per eseguire questo brano. Beautiful. A couple of times I feel the harpsichord should have played more subtly or simply stayed quiet, especially during the last pause. But in any case, very enjoyable performance.
RJJohnson, I am sorry for my inadequate English. The exellent harpsichord player deserve anything else but criticizm! He deserve all the flowers he is able to carry! This performance belongs to the therm "H.I.P.- performances, the band make an attempt to restore this old music. Improvisations was an important part of the musical express back then, so the harp...player does it very, very well! Quote: "....simply stayed quiet, especially during the last pause." Pause? Which pause? There is no written pause! Listening at 0:51-0:54 - the bass keep the complimentary rhythm going, there is no pause. Exactly the same happend at 3:00-3:03 - the harp...player keep the complimentary rhythm going, and the way he play, it sounds wonderful!
@@geiryvindeskeland7208 You are absolutely correct! The harpsichord is B usually not recorded well enough to be heard. This rendering is nothing less than perfection. Your English is very good.
I think this is the best version. The harpsichord melody is so beautiful. In most recordings it can hardly be heard, if at all.
You are right, Arnar. In this uptaking one can hear the harpsichord fresh and clear.
I think that's the problem, is to prominent.
NBS makes the best renditions
That’s because it’s improvised.
I think it sounds a bit out of place

Not to sound rude, but songs involve a certain structure & vocals. This would be a piece.

Harpsichord man looks so serene! I love this version.
The hapsichord man looks like has had a couple of drinks too many. Yet he plays so beautifully...
I'm not a big Baroque guy but this piece, the Corelli concerto grosso(Christmas) and the Vivaldi Winter never get old.
This music is of the highest order and even the presentation is perfect.. Isn't it?

It is exquisite..although it is an air not aria....I like the way the musicians flow their bodies and faces in concert with the flow of the music...
That sounds perfect! The only thing confused me very much: the third violinist stared at the first violinist all the time. Why?
